This needs some investigation. |
The retroUSB AVS is an aftermarket famiclone named after the Advanced Video System, a redesigned Famicom for the western market that would evolve into the Nintendo Entertainment System. The retroUSB AVS is unique for using FPGA-based hardware emulation rather than using typical software emulation or the cheap to manufacture NES-on-a-chip hardware. As a result, compatibility with original NES and Famicom cartridges and peripherals is very close (but not perfect) to original hardware.
The AVS was discontinued in December 2025.
