Unused Models#

Grey Psyche#

PS0E7.RMD contains a grey tinted version of Psyche. There's usually grey tinted versions of all the SEES members' ultimate Personas (except Juno) for the shadow protagonist boss fight in The Answer, who copies the Personas of the current party members, but when Metis is included in the party, the shadow protagonist never uses Psyche, making this model unused.

Unused Voice Clips#

V450001.AFS#

Persona Summoning#

This file contains all of the non-navigator battle voice clips. Among them are clips of the protagonist and Aigis summoning the various Personas, including ones they cannot use. When these Personas are added to the player's Persona stock, these clips never play. Instead, the protagonist will play some of Aigis' Persona calls, and in The Answer, Aigis will play some voice clips unrelated to Persona calls (including Palladion and Athena).

Shadow Protagonist Persona Reactions#

When the shadow protagonist uses one of the party members' Persona for the first time, the SEES members have their own voice clip reacting to the shadow protagonist summoning their ultimate Persona. Among these though, there's also an alternate voice clip of each SEES member reacting to their regular Persona getting summoned. Since way beyond at this point, everyone has their ultimate Personas already, these never get used. Models don't exist for them as well. Metis also doesn't have one for the unused grey Psyche model.

Metis Status Conditions#

Metis has voice clips for getting tired, sick, and a cold, but during The Answer, none of the party members ever get any of these conditions, so these go unused. If this is enabled in The Answer, the tired condition works as intended on Metis, including a navigator line for Fuuka.

Metis Status Conditions#

To go with Metis being tired, sick, or having a cold, Fuuka has navigator voice clips for them as well. Ironically, Fuuka's line for Metis's cold is the only one dubbed out of all the SEES members, as all of Fuuka's lines for the SEES members getting a cold weren't dubbed.

Unused Text#

To accompany the unused voice clips of the SEES members reacting to their regular Persona getting summoned by the shadow protagonist, there is unused text to appear in battle when the lines are said. Only Ken doesn't have text for his.

Debug Options#

Cutscene Debug Menu#

To do:
Document more of this. There is a lot of stuff to do in these menus.
Add codes for other versions of the game.

P3FES-DebugMenu1.png P3FES-DebugMenu2.png P3FES-DebugMenu3.png

A fairly elaborate debug menu remains in this game. You can make your own cutscenes, apply sound effects and BGM, apply graphics to appear during cutscenes, and toggle various settings in this menu. To enable it, apply the code below for your version of the game.

Persona 3 FES USA (SLUS-21621) codes:

Master Code (Only needed for cheat devices used on a console)
90506658 0C14193E
Debug Menu Enable
2036E8C4 00000000

Persona 3 FES USA Trade Demo (SLUS-28067) codes:

Master Code (Only needed for cheat devices used on a console)
90509798 0C14258E
Debug Menu Enable
2035A2F4 00000000

Persona 3 FES JP (SLPM-66690) codes:

Master Code (Only needed for cheat devices used on a console)
90507258 0C141C3E
Debug Menu Enable
2036E7C4 00000000

pnach format, for use with PCSX2 (FES USA):

patch=1,EE,2036E8C4,extended,00000000

The file must be named 94A82AAA.pnach, and placed within PCSX2's user-related cheat directory. This is typically located at C:\Users\\Documents\PCSX2\cheats.

With the above code active, enter New Game or enter any area with a cutscene. When the cutscene is playing, or in New Game, press R2. This will take you to the debug menu. Pressing Triangle while in this menu will send you to the cutscene editor window. Pressing Circle will exit out of an option.

Calendar Debug#

While in-game, set this address 211672E0 to 1, you can open a debug menu that allows you to force what state of day you're in as well as changing what day you're on.

  • L1/L2 to move state of day.
  • L2/R2 to move a month.
  • Up/Down to move a week forward/back.
  • Left/Right to move a day forward/back.

Unused Music#

There is unused music which originates from other Megami Tensei games.

Sound File

Description

KINPAKU.ADX is The Army of Ultimate Power's Imminent Arrival, from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army. "Kinpaku" means "tension" in Japanese.

MAP01.ADX is Tsukudo Cho (Rearrange), from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon. This track sounds remarkably similar to the opening song for Persona 3 FES, which released before Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, meaning that this track was already completed before the game's release.

MAP02.ADX is A Strange World, from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army.

Sound File

Description

COMBINE.ADX is an unused bit of audio in the 'BGM' folder of P3F. Interestingly, it's also in the environment sound effects of both FES and the original as EVE_177.ADX.

Sound File

Description

107.ADX has a bgm that doesn't get used anywhere in the game. This is Blind Alley. While it is heard in other games, it didn't get used at all in FES. It's likely because the instruments doesn't fit with the game's theming (especially for The Answer), and sounds more like a song meant for Persona 4. The song was still included with the game's OST. It eventually did get used in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and a remixed version for Persona 3 Reload in a new cutscene for The Answer.

Inside the game's SOUND folder is a bizarre, unfinished version of P3CT003.SFD, the cutscene introducing Gekkoukan High School. This version uses storyboards for most of its backgrounds. The file is absent from the original Persona 3 release.

Unused Enemy AI#

  • During ???'s fight, the AI is supposed to have access to Marakunda, Masukunda, and Matarunda while using Caesar. However, the conditional is inverted: instead of using the moves when the debuffs aren't active, it is instead set to use them when they are active, resulting in the moves never being used.
  • ???'s fight has an unfinished phase in which it will summon Psyche if Metis is brought to the fight, with the internal title "AI_Shadow_hero_METIS". During this phase, it will only use Zionga against a random target.
  • For some reason in Junpei and Koromaru's fight, Junpei is supposed to have access to Patra only if Koromaru is inflicted with Panic, and Koromaru is supposed to have access to Charmdi if Junpei is charmed. They both block all ailments, so these moves never get used.

Metis Tired Condition#

Metis has functionality for getting tired, sick, and a cold, but since these status conditions are disabled in The Answer (except for the default "Good" condition), this never gets used on Metis. She has voice clips associated for these, including navigator lines for Fuuka. It works as intended if these status conditions are enabled in The Answer, though Metis is a little unfinished. When interacting with her outside of battle, she uses Shinji's tired dialogue and the dummy bustup. This is very likely because Metis and Shinji share the same character IDs in most cases, but Metis loads in The Answer, and Shinji loads in The Journey, so no dialogue was made for Metis at this point, and the bustup is either due to a missing bustup, or the game can't load Shinji's in The Answer.
P3FES-MetisTiredInteraction.PNG

Version Differences#

Voice Clips#

A single voice line was re-recorded for this version of the game, specifically at the beginning when the Protagonist meets Ikutsuki:

Persona 3

Persona 3 FES

Please forgive the bad pun.

Please forgive the pun.

Oddly enough, the original line is used again in Persona 3 Portable and rerecorded in Persona 3 Reload instead of this revised take.

Developer Oversight#

In the English version only, during the cutscene in The Answer when Fuuka is trying to figure out what's wrong with Aigis, one of the dialogues uses Akihiko's bustup, but Mitsuru says the line instead. This was fixed in Persona 3 Reload, which uses Akihiko's for both like the Japanese version.
