Shin Megami Tensei NINE is the first fully 3D entry in the Shin Megami Tensei series. Taking place during the events of the first game, you explore a digital world called "Idea Space", a digital recreation of Tokyo before the ICBMs destroyed it. However, you're eventually recruited by the Central Administration Bureau to take care of the glitches known as "Noise".
The game was supposed to get a online version later on that would have included more demons, items, and online multiplayer, before getting scrapped and spun off into Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE due the original Xbox being unpopular in Japan.
Despite this, the game has been gaining a cult-like status in recent years for its writing and having the artist Yasuomi Umetsu be the character designer.

To do:
- Each city has a alpha xbg file, early model data to show where to the player could originally walk to.
- Place Maya Amano textures onto Sumire model to see what she looked like as a placeholder.
- Is there any unused visual effects in the .tpk files?
- Make a prerelease page covering the TGS reveal and other things. This site mentions some pretty neat unused things like items.
Listed here are tools that be used to extract assets.
|
Unused Graphics#
Placeholder portraits to show emotions featuring Baraki, young Sumire, and the protagonist sister.
Another set of placeholder portraits. The text here mentions Miranda and Sumire.

Two textures of Maya Amano from the Persona 2 duology. It seems to be a placeholder textures for Sumire model.
A weird background of sorts.
An early graphic for the original duke Xbox controller.
Text used for debugging.
Unfinished Real World Backgrounds#
There's several unfinished backgrounds for the real world section. Likely just used for placeholders.

Divine Cherub#
Divine Seraph#
A brand-new demon for this title. Wouldn't see an official appearance until Strange Journey.

Megami Izanami#
The last new demon. Similarly with Tokisada, wouldn't make an appearance until Shin Megami Tensei IV.
The following demons are referenced in the Akuma.txt files, but don't have any RTS assets associated with them:

Unused RTS Icons#
Some of Chapter 9's bosses have RTS map icons, even though the last RTS mission occurs in Chapter 8.

Unused Skills#
Four skill names, both the normal name and the name for the in-game battle log, exist in the game's code, but aren't used in-game.
雲耀星辰剣	HIGH-SPEED-FEAT
聖者の殉教	SAINT-MARTYRDOM
七星降天 SHOOTING-7STARS
六星輝煌 BRIGHT-6STARS
SHOOTING-7STARS and BRIGHT-6STARS were skills used by Beidou Xingjun and Nandou Xingjun in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner.
These skills are all assigned to unused demons. HIGH-SPEED-FEAT is assigned to Nandou Xingjun, Masakado, and Beidou Xingjun. SAINT-MARTYRDOM, SHOOTING-7STARS, and BRIGHT-6STARS are assigned to Tokisada, Beidou Xingjun, and Nandou Xingjun, respectively.
Debug Files#
In the game's files, there's a debug folder that contains the file called debug.xpr.
Removed Videos#
In the video folder, every video file has a number to them but the videos begin to skip numbers after 23. It's unknown why the numbers begin to skip but it's assumed to be videos that were removed. These video files that were skipped are:
- video_24.xmv
- video_26.xmv
- video_29.xmv
- video_30.xmv
- video_31.xmv
- video_32.xmv
