This is a sub-page of Proto:Persona 5/December 4th, 2015/Models.

Careful, you'll lose an eye.

This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

To do:

  • Compare with the unused early models in the final game for comparison if possible.
  • Slight differences in models, like the protagonist's face shape.

Almost all character models in this build have the outlines as part of the models themselves rather than effects applied by the game.

Early Character Designs#

To do:
What builds were they changed by?

Protagonist#

Joker's face shape is a little different.

Early

Final

Ore No Beko Outfit#

Early

Final

Gekkoukan High Uniform#

Has no armband or Evoker.

Early

Final

"Lawson" 777 Work Outfit#

A completely different outfit, looking like the real life Lawson work outfit.

Early

Final

Ryuji#

Summer Uniform#

A slightly early design for Ryuji in his summer uniform, the shirt says "FUCK'IN RULES", which would be changed to NO'MO RULES in the final. The finalized design is present in the Hawaii cutscene, making this a bit of an old leftover.

Early

Final

Or should it say "EFF'IN RULES?"
P5 RyujiFinalSummerRender.png

Futaba#

Futaba's early design consistently has her wearing unbranded open-back headphones. These are also present in the final game, but only in her 'casual' outfit.
Otherwise, the final game has her wearing AKG headphones as part of a brand promotion.1

Early

Final

Lavenza#

Lavenza's early design had her looking more like a maid. Her character portrait is also using this early design.

Early

Final

Mishima#

Mishima's injured model has many more bandages around his face than in the final version, which his character portrait reflects. The shading around his nose and mouth is also much darker.

Early

Final

Mishima's shoes have a slightly different design, having less green on them than in the final. This was likely because it resembled Nike sneakers in terms of their iconic tick branding.

Early

Final

Mishima's textures, in general, are much higher quality than in the final version. This can be seen in the image above.

Injured Shiho#

The model for when Shiho is in the hospital coma after she jumped off the school roof was fully modeled. Later, all the unseen parts were removed. The final model still has the textures leftover from this, however.

Early

Final

Shadow Kamoshida#

In Kamoshida's model folder, a model named as model/character/2101_051_00.GMD is an early model for Shadow Kamoshida. This model is used in normal events in this build:

  • The only difference is a different texture for his face, which has him smiling instead of frowning.

There's also another model close to the final named model/character/mc2101_102_00.GMD, which the only difference compared to final is that it's missing the shadow on his face.

Earlier (Used in this build)

Early (Unused in this build)

Final

Shadow Kaneshiro#

Shadow Kaneshiro's skin is the same color as his normal model rather than purple, This also applies to his character portraits. Oddly his boss form has the purple skin of the final version, implying his purple skin was exclusive to his boss form before they decided to give it to his shadow form as well.

Early

Final

Kamoshida Guard#

Face mask uses a texture from Persona 4 Golden, which is seen unused in the final.

Early

Final

Unused Models#

To do:
So many more gray background NPC models in the model/character folder.

Models that aren't present in later builds nor the final.

Early Protagonist#

Located in sample/playertest.GMD is what seems to be the earliest version of the protagonist likely leftover from the travelling concept, due to the presence of a suitcase and being in a completely different style from the final and closely matching the heavily-downscaled art of the design plan. Also, all his textures names start with C:\0_work\p5\testmodel\deformation\tex\testmodel.

He wears the standard Yasogami High Uniform without the school's logo (though it's seen in his textures), a scarf on his head, and a suitcase is present with his model as well. This seems to be a style test, as this model is found amongst other models of varying art styles, with this style being an updated/HD version of the PlayStation 2 game models. This model has three animations: Idle, Walk, & Run. This model and animations are used in several tests in the 2014 eboot. P5_sample_playertest_front.png

Idle

Walk

Run

Alongside his main textures are textures for Jonathan Ariga from Catherine, likely as the early main character's model was modified from his. P5_texture_johnnyt06.png

Nanako Dojima#

Located in sample/bc_nanako.GMD is a model of Nanako Dojima from Persona 4, sporting an older design & an art style closer to the final game's art style. Her textures refer to her as a figure skater. She has 5 animations, all lifted from the P3P's FeMC battle animations, and her weapon is edited from the FeMC's Naginata. She also appears in a sample test called "SYNC OBJECT" in the 2014 eboot. P5_sample_bcnanako.png

Idle

Hit

Run

Attack

Dodge

Vincent Brooks#

Located in sample/catherine02_01.GFS is a model of Vincent Brooks from Catherine. He only has one animation, all showing off different facial expressions, and his coat moves a bit during the beginning of the animation. His phone is also present underneath him, slowly closing. He appears in a sample test called "MORPTH" in the 2014 eboot. P5_sample_catherine02.png

Yukari Takeba#

Located in sample/p3yukari.GFS is a model of Yukari Takeba from Persona 3. It seems this model was made as an art style attempt, as the model is posed the same as her 2D artwork. She has one animation, an idle that switches between multiple different faces.

This appears to have been a very early leftover, due to the character models being finalized in Catherine; a video game that served as testing grounds towards Atlus' new style on next-generation hardware. And all her textures start with C:\niida\gfd_test_data. She is also used in a sample test called "CLONE MODEL" in the 2014 eboot. P5_sample_p3yukari.png

Yu Narukami#

Located in sample/pophero.GFS is a model of Yu Narukami from Persona 4 in his shorts, with all of his textures naming him as "base_man". His model here is modified from his original PS2 model, having a more detailed face & longer proportions, likely as another art style test. Weirdly, he has one animation of him swinging a bat.

Located in sample/bat.GFS is a model of a bat, which is used with Yu Narukami as a Sample test called "ATTACHMENT" in the 2014 eboot. P5_sample_bat.png

Early Joker model#

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_071.GMD is an early model for Joker. He appears kind of the same as the final model; however, his face and hair do look different. One thing to note is that it still uses the old school's name.

This model also has an "animation", with Joker in a pose.

Somewhat early Winter Uniform#

Located at c0001_199_00.GMD is a somewhat early model of Joker. The only difference is that it uses the old school name. P5-dec42015-Mostly_finished_Joker.png

Fully Blackend Joker#

Located at c0001_109_00.GMD is Joker's phantom thieve model colored completely black. P5-dec42015-Blackend_Joker.png

Joker Prison Outfit#

Found at c0001_105_00.GMD, is Joker's prison model used in the Velvet Room with no eyes. He comes with a blood texture, meaning he would take off his mask when a persona is fused. Creepy_noeyes_Joker.png

Early Ryuji model#

To do:
Replace this image with a better one.

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_072.GMD is an early model for Ryuji. This model is seen unused in the final. Another thing to note is that it still uses the old school's name. P5-dec42015-Early_Ryuji.png

This model also has an "animation", with Ryuji in a pose.

More expressive Ryuji#

Located at c0002_255_00.GMD is a more expressive Ryuji model. Originally, all the characters would have expressions that work the same way Morgana handles expressions. He has 3 expressions of being happy, grinning, and being disappointed. P5-dec42015-Expressive_Ryuji.png

Early Ann model#

To do:
Replace this image with a better one.

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_073.GMD is an early model for Ann. This model is seen unused in the final, but the head isn't huge. Another thing to note is that it still uses the old school's name. P5-dec42015-Early_Ann.png

This model also has an "animation", with Ann in a pose.

Early Yusuke model#

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_074.GMD is an early model for Yusuke. P5-dec42015-Early_Yosuke.png

This model also has an "animation", with Yusuke in a pose. P5dec2015-Early_Yusuke_animation.png

Early Makoto model#

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_075.GMD is an early model for Makoto. P5-dec42015-Early_Makoto.png

This model also has an "animation", with Makoto in a pose. P5dec2015-Early_Makoto_animation.png

Early Haru model#

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_076.GMD is an early model for Haru. P5-dec42015-Early_Haru-revision_.png

This model also has an "animation", with Haru in a pose. P5dec2015-Early_Haru_animation.png

Early Futaba model#

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_077.GMD is an early model for Futaba. She looks mostly the same, but the Japanese text on her shirt 夏制服, translates to "Summer uniform". P5dec42015Early_Futaba_new.png

This model also has an "animation", with Futaba in a pose. P5dec2015-Early_Futaba_animation.png

Early Akechi model#

To do:
Replace this image with a better one.

Located inside the file named field/object/m010_078.GMD is an early model for Akechi. P5dec42015-Early_Akechi_.png

This model also has an "animation", with Akechi in a pose. P5dec2015-Early_Akechi_animation.png

NPC Man#

An unused NPC is located with the character models, interestingly located within the Confidant models in model/character/1014/c1014_000_00.GMD. Its texture names do refer to it as an NPC, but due to its placement, it's possible that it may have been a placeholder for this slot, and another Confidant character was considered at some point. Interestingly, this slot would be taken over by Maruki in Royal. P5Proto-Dec2015NPCMan.PNG
