Title Screen#

A placeholder image used as the title screen in this build, featuring an earlier design for Joker. Interestingly, the same graphic is also found in Persona 5 Royal.

Final title screen graphics#

A few graphics used in the final game's title screen. However, since the proper title screen is not implemented in this build, these go unused. Similarly to the February build, the only difference compared to the final is the Atlus logo being the colored version instead of being fully white.

Save icon#

The save icon uses art from Catherine.

Bootup image#

The bootup image uses art from Catherine.

The pink text 文章仮 translates to Writing Placeholder.

Trophy Icon#

A trophy icon named as "ICON0", uses a placeholder icon seen unused in the final. It was last edited on October 14, 2013. Making this a pretty old leftover.

Init Folder#

Two test images in the init folder, in a file named evtWipeTex.pak. Oddly, on bootup in the June 13, 2014 eboot, these graphics are added to the test/ikeda/wipe folder.

A folder with only one file named spr0000_00_00.spd, is the CHECK!! prompt from Persona 4.

Sample Folder#

In the hdd.cpk and data.cpk folders, is a folder named "sample" that contains very early and basic graphics used for testing.

Unused teammate graphics depicting the early protagonist, Catherine from Catherine with a different color palette, Chie, the scrapped female protagonist, and Vincent Brooks from Catherine with a darker clothing palette.

Window_01.png Window_02.png Window_03.png Window_04.png Window_05.png

Interestingly, the early protagonist matches this conceptual design.

Character Cut-ins#

A cut-in for the scrapped female protagonist. The file name refers to her as 'akage', which literally means 'red hair'.

A saturated cut-in for Akihiko. Seems to be a never-before-seen early version of this particular sprite, as his mouth shape matches a concept sketch of him left in the files of Persona 3.

A cut-in for Chie from Persona 4 Golden.

A saturated cut-in for Yukari.

Battle HUD#

An early placeholder battle HUD with some interesting things to note.

  • Jack Frost and Pyro Jack appear to be using their Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga models.
  • Yukari, Akihiko, Chie and Akage appear to have been some of the playable characters when this HUD was in use. While Yukari's model is in this build and Akage's can be found untextured in the final game's files, Chie and Akihiko's models aren't present in any of the dumped builds.
  • The 2D silhouettes appear to be for Vincent from Catherine, Catherine from Catherine, what appears to be the early protagonist design, Chie(?), and Akage.

Hold-Up Menu#

A early Hold up menu. Oddly, this graphic is loaded but never used when in a holdup in battles.

Value#

Early damage counters and early graphics for critical, weak, miss, and another critical.

Catherine Graphics#

Some leftover UI graphics from Cathrine.

Smpn.spd#

Both of these graphics are seen unused in Royal:

What appears to be a scroll with multiple parts to form this image. The same graphics are seen unused in Royal.

What seems to be a photo of Tokyo.

Field/Panel/Roadmap#

rmap_153_5_1#

A placeholder map used for Madarmaes palace, similar to some other placeholder maps that use a wikipedia image of an iphone 4 seen here.

Field/Panel/Middle_map#

shibshib_test01.dds#

What appears to be concept art of Shibuya.

shibshib_test05.dds#

Another piece of what appears to be concept art of Shibuya. Though this one seems to be an earlier version of shibshib_test01.DDS.

Battle Graphics#

Joker's All-Out Attack portrait is different, matching the one seen in the PV01 Trailer. It also has a second, more zoomed in version where Futaba's All-Out Attack portrait would be.

March - Final

These images are found within the folder of data.cpk/battle/gui. Their use is currently unknown, but it can be inferred from them being in the same folder as the All-Out Attack portraits that these were early or placeholder versions of them. Notably, the filenames refer to Ryuji and Yusuke by their early names, those being Reiji and Yugo.

An image of a bullet.

What seems to be an early placeholder version of Morgana's navigation textbox, with Morgana using concept art. The formatting also isn't broken here, the image is really just that long.

An early textbox.

An image of what seems to be a shard with Morgana on it.

In the filename of key_help.spd in the battle/gui folder, are controls for battles. It uses artwork for a PS3 controller, with Baton Pass being called Baton Touch. Additionally, the image is quite lengthy.

Early Battle UI#

In the filename of p5_battle01.spd in the battle/gui folder, is some graphics used for an early UI for battles. These graphics are used in the June 13, 2014 eboot, and were later seen unused in Cathrine Full Body.

Chat Icons#

In this build their are two different versions of chat.spd, one in the same folder as the file named chatFile.pak and one inside that file. While most of the icons are the same between the two versions, the version of chat.spd inside chatFile.pak has most of its non-character icons moved to below the character icons and is missing a few. In the final game, there's only one file in the folder that contains the icons, and it's just called chat.pac.

Outside chatFile.pak

Inside chatFile.pak

Final

Calendar#

Early calendar graphics with an image of Tokyo.

day_test01.png day_test02.png

Named good_test.DDS, appears to be a placeholder for The Phantom Aficionado Website chat. The kanji text on the bottom right means temporary.

Palace Security Meter Graphics#

Kamoshida#

The image is slightly resized in the final, and some of the lines are slightly different.

Early

Final

The changes from the previous image are present, the shading on the bottom of the medal was changed, and his abdomen is cut off earlier.

Early

Final

Madarame#

The image is almost completely different outside of the pose. The white outline was made much thicker in the final.

Early

Final

The shading on Madarame's sleeve was altered, the Sayuri was added, and the white outline was made much thicker.

Early

Final

Kaneshiro#

Kaneshiro's right arm was moved, cash was added to his hand, his jacket altered, and the white outline was made much thicker.

Early

Final

Okumura#

Okumura's hair was moved to the other side of his head, the UFO was added, shading was changed, and the white outline was made much thicker. The hair was likely moved to the other side to keep the side his hair is on consistent with his model and portraits, as in the final game the security meter actually mirrors the images in-game.

Early

Final

Sae#

Sae's arm was adjusted and a line was added, the hair above her arm was moved, she was made a little thinner, and the white outline was made much thicker.

Early

Final

Shido#

Shido's security image is completely different from the final. He only has his second image depicting his shadow, which is just an unused duplicate of his normal one in the final version.

Wakaba?#

Not only is the unused meter image seemingly depicting Wakaba here, but it's also flipped and has a normal version. These images are used as placeholders for the missing security meter images.

Early

Final

Speech Bubble#

Found among the Security Meter images is this graphic of a speech bubble, which translates to "Not yet, huh...". The Security Meters are displayed on the right side of the screen in this build, so this speech bubble was likely meant to appear above them.

Early Leaving Palace Graphics#

Images of Joker similar to his pause menu graphics. These poses match those of his model's animations in the final game, indicating that the sequence for leaving the Palace originally used graphics like these instead of only using his model.

P5_Dec42015LeavingPalace1.pngP5_Dec42015LeavingPalace2.png

Cropped screenshots of the Palace entrances. It's possible that when Joker breaks through the wall, the background was going to show the palace instead of red. Just about all of the screenshots show early designs of the Palaces.
