splash 640x480 is a very early title screen, before the game even had a specific title. An alternate version of this image without the "06" is used in the final game when playing "Hypnotic Highway" in Story Mode for the first time for the character selection loading screen.
9_1 character selection world#
9_1 character selection world has unused two menu icons of Patrick and Plankton sleeping.
Giant_Trans World 4#
transition_splash_level6_04 is a level transition mockup screen, particularly for the level Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster. Interestingly, it mentions 6 statues, while only 4 can be found in one place in the final version of the level at Mount Fishmore.
Texture Oddities#
A texture used in "It Came From Bikini Bottom" has an unseen portion with unpainted UV maps.

BonusPak_Plankton Gangster is a cut 1930's mobster costume for Plankton. It was likely cut since there was nowhere really to put it, since the freeze ray would've obscured the hat in "Super-Sized Patty", and "Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster" uses a different model for Plankton with modeled hands (plus the hat would have probably gotten in the way of the camera too much). It could have been made for "Hypnotic Highway" since Plankton doesn't have any costumes of his own for that level (unlike SpongeBob and Patrick, who each have one), but he would be too small to be seen with it on.
Unused Music#
There are two tracks which are never heard in game, which seem to be early variations of certain tracks.
An earlier version of the Super-Sized Patty level theme.
An earlier version of the Meteor Mania mini game theme.

Present at 458050 in the executable is instructions on adjusting the monitor.
STEP 1: Turn CHROMA (color level) all the way down
STEP 2: Adjust BRIGHTNESS until there is no difference visible between the left and middle bars, but there is between the middle and right bars.
STEP 3: Adjust CONTRAST to achieve a balanced gray scale across all the bars.
STEP 4: Looking through a blue filter, turn up CHROMA (color level) until the two bars appear to match in brightness.
STEP 5: Still looking through a blue filter, adjust COLOR PHASE (tint or hue) until the bars appear to match in brightness.
Your monitor is now correctly adjusted. Remember to take the blue filter off!

Internal Level Names#
The various files used to show the subtitles refer to their respective levels by their internal names. Interestingly, "It Came from Bikini Bottom" is referred to as "Chumps Away", which is how it was named during development, and the post-credits cutscene is referred to as its own "level" called "Gary's Day".

Regional Differences#
- Due to presumed space limitations, the GameCube version has separate European English, French, German, and Dutch builds. The European Wii version adds in French and German, but excludes Dutch, while the European PlayStation 2 version includes them all, as well as Italian, Spanish, and Swedish.
- Most of the videos in the extras section of the menu were removed in international versions. The European and Japanese versions only include a trailer for a few SpongeBob DVDs, whereas the Korean version only has it and the Barnyard video game trailer.
American and European#

The GameCube banner was changed between the American and European versions. The American banner appears to be a placeholder that was used by mistake, given the generic SpongeBob logo being used instead of the one actually used in the game, along with it having an early design for the plane that was seen in some prerelease media (and also on the back of the PS2/GameCube box).

Japanese and Korean#

|
To do: |
Creature from the Krusty Krab was the first SpongeBob game released in Japan (on the PlayStation 2 and Wii), along with Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island. The Korean version released for the PS2 is also based on this version of the game. Aside from the text obviously being translated to Japanese or Korean, a few other subtle changes were made:
|
International |
Japan/Korea |
|---|---|
|
|
- The logo text is darker. This is rather strange, as neither region marketed the game as Creature from the Krusty Krab.
- The original cartoonish font is replaced with a more generic one.
- The announcer countdowns at the start of every race don't exist, with the game instead using a blip sound.
- The PlayStation 2 bug with the even number dash move was fixed.
- The Japanese version added subtitle translations to level screens.
- The Japanese version altered some of the subtitles due to various changes made in the dub of the show (for example, Bikini Bottom is referred to as Bikini Town).
Oddities#
"Diesel Dreaming" Crates#
- The crates in the racing segments of "Diesel Dreaming" use the particles from the level "Starfishman to the Rescue!" when destroyed. Strangely, the crates in the platforming segments use the correct particles when they're destroyed.
SpongeBob's Grapple Ability#
- For some reason, SpongeBob's Grapple ability is "unlocked" before his other moves in "Diesel Dreaming", allowing him to use it much earlier than intended. This is often exploited by speedrunners to get the car parts without having to move the platforms.
"Rooftop Rumble" level#
- The prompt for using the Bluster Puff on the searchlight fans still mentions posters, despite no posters appearing in the level.
- When the game is loading the final fight between Patrick and Plankton, he's shown flying backward.
- Even though SpongeBob is supposed to be captured by Plankton, he can be seen flying around during the fight.
- During the cutscene shown after the defeat of the Giant Plankton, one of Patrick's lines ("Did I win?") has him speak with Plankton's voice.
Multiple Giant Plankton clone models#
- In the level "It Came From Bikini Bottom", it's possible to see more than one Giant Plankton onscreen. This is because most of the levels have multiple Giant Plankton models scattered across the map, with each model starting a specific event (like walking or shooting lasers) after being triggered.
Model clippings#
- The game has a surprisingly large amount of instances where an object or character model is noticeably clipping through another model (for example, in the "Super-Sized Patty" minigame "Pouncin' Poundin' Patty", the top of Plankton's antennae can be seen).
Plankton's Costume Oddities#
- When Plankton wears any of his unlockable costumes, his mouth doesn't tend to move when he talks. Additionally, his SquarePants costume changes his pupil to black (rather than staying its usual red) for seemingly no reason.
SpongeBob's Pilot Costume#
- SpongeBob's unlockable pilot costume for "It Came from Bikini Bottom" doesn't have any proper lighting, causing him to very noticeably stick out in the level.
"Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster" Outro Cutscene#
- During the outro cutscene for the level "Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster", after SpongeBob flies out of the Alaskan Bull Worm and notices Plankton, the plane isn't actually moving. Also, as SpongeBob is flying away from Plankton at the end of the cutscene, the camera clips through the plane, revealing SpongeBob's body for a brief second.
Post-Credits Cutscene#
- For some reason, all versions have an odd error at the start of the cutscene where SpongeBob's house jiggles before he even leaves it.
