Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Classics

Prototype Info

Easter Egg#

Famicom/NES Controller Menu#

This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. Specifically: Upload images with and without the FC/NES Switch Controllers attached.

Whenever a Famicom or NES Switch controller is used, the main menu's color (Red/Gray (INT) or Dark Red (JP/HK/TW) colors) and sound effects (from Super Mario Bros. 3) will change.

Debugging Content#

The Lua scripts mention a Debug Menu, debug info printing, debug info tracing, debug saving, and debug store.

Additional Emulators#

Additional emulators are referenced in the data files: Canoe, Hiyoko, and Count.

A leak of NERD's internal emulator work on April 19, 2022 revealed that Hiyoko was the codename for a Game Boy emulator, which was later released as Game Boy - Nintendo Switch Online. What "Count" refers to remains unknown.

Regional Differences#

The app is called Family Computer - Nintendo Classics in Japan and Asian regions, even though Hong Kong and Taiwan were the only regions that had official releases of both the NES and Famicom, respectively. Naturally, the international version of the app is called Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Classics.

Controllers#

Revisional Differences#

Branding#

Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong	International

In Version 3.0.0, Home Menu icon and title screen were revised to include the "Nintendo Classics" branding.

Game Lineup#

More games have been added via software updates.

Cover Art#

Aside from the Famicom and NES apps using their respective cover artwork, the cover art for The Tower of Babel on the Famicom app was changed to Mystery Tower on the NES app. The "NBL-3900" product code on the bottom left was removed. Additionally, the Japanese "Family Computer" (ファミリーコンピュータ) text was replaced with English "Nintendo Entertainment System" text. It is odd these changes were done given that the game wasn't released for the NES during the console's original lifespan outside of Japan and the game description notes that it is a Famicom game.

Other#

The cover art for various games were updated as new games were added to the service.

International (original)	International (revised)	Original Box Art

The initial release of Fire 'n Ice lacked cover art in the international version. In a later update, the game received new cover art which removes the big warning sticker present on the original NES box art.

Initial (Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong)	Updated (Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong)

The initial release of Babel in the Japanese version used the original cover art. In a later update, the cover was updated, changing the name to The Tower of Babel.
