Debug Mode#
By changing Hex address 0x0860820c to 01 in the ROM, a hidden Debug mode can be enabled. When enabled, it does the following:
- The intro is skipped and goes straight to the main menu (European version only).
- Selecting New Game skips the opening cutscene and goes straight into the first level (European version only).
- A version number is displayed on the lower left and coordinates on the lower right.
- Press the Select button to hide displayed information. It also marks the current level as completed and returns to the hub world.
- Press A+R will mark all levels as complete.

Unused Enemies#
Fat Rabbid#
This enemy is almost fully functional, suggesting it was scrapped late in development. It appears out-of-bounds in the level Infernal Escape.
Small Livingstone#
A redesigned enemy from Rayman 1 meant to appear in the Forest world, like the Big Livingstone and the Hunter.
Candy Fly#
An unused enemy meant to appear in the Sweets world.
Skull Bat#
No palette or animations for this enemy exist.

Other Unused Graphics#
Early Costumes#
A few leftover frames and animations that depict costumes that were originally meant to appear in Phoenix's Rayman 4, though no color palettes remain.
From left to right they are Gum, Invisible, Spotlight, Boxer, Big Foot, Bubble, and Mole. In the final game, Mole and Big Foot became Gangster, Bubble and Invisible became Granny, Boxer became Rocker, Spotlight became Disco, and Gum became Punk.
The Gum costume also comes with a projectile.
Keg Flying#
A slightly modified sprite for the keg flying from the GBA version of Rayman 3. There is no level in the final version with a keg flying section.
Shocked#
An animation from the GBA version of Rayman 3 of Rayman being hit by the tesla coils.
Crouching on a Plum#
An animation from the GBA version of Rayman 3 where Rayman crouches on a plum while standing on it. In the final version, Rayman's animation doesn't change while crouching on a plum. Notably, this sprite is lifted completely without adapting to the art style of Raving Rabbids.
Gangster Attack#
The Gangster costume was meant to have an attack, but that was cut in the final version.
Crate Tile?#
|
|
To do: |
An unused tile depicting a crate.
Magic Pen#
An unused animation for the Magic Pen enemy.
Shoe Kart#
Early versions of the vehicle used in the racing levels exist, where Rayman drives in his shoe just like in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. There are no fully rotating sprites.
Pencil#
An obstacle meant to appear in the unused fourth race level.

Name Entry#

Unused artwork exists for an early name entry screen.
Miscellaneous#

Leftover graphics from a few of Visual Impact's previous games: Ford Racing 3, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, and the unreleased The Berenstain Bears Karting. It's worth noting that the art for Downhill Jam doesn't appear in that game.
A leftover map from Downhill Jam also exists.

Unused Music#
Enemy Music#
Judging from their internal names, these songs, one for each world, were likely meant to play when encountering certain large enemies, similar to the GBA version of Rayman 3.

J_timeout1(mode7) |
Only "J_timeout_4" is used. Judging from the amount of "Time Out" jingles, it seems every world was intended to have a racing level at some point. |
|
J_timeout2 |
||
J_timeout_3 |
||
J_timeout_5 |
||
J_victory2(continue_oui) |
Judging from the name, this jingle was meant to be used when confirming in the Continue screen, as the Game Over jingle is called "J_gameover2b(continue_non)" internally. Instead, the Win Race jingle is reused for that purpose. |

Unused Levels#
Dummy Race Levels#
Every race level has a platformer dummy map associated with it. It has the same layout for every world, with just the tileset being changed. It's possible to access them in-game by pressing A while on a Mode 7 level and quickly moving to another level icon before the screen completely fades out.
There are two invisible door objects at the top and bottom of the map respectively, which are fully functional and will take you to the other door.

Unused Racetrack#
An unused racing level meant for Toy World. It's stored in the data as a 2D level, suggesting it's using an older version of the level format. It uses the backgrounds of the finished Toy Chase level.
(Source: RayCarrot, Droolie)
Unused Level Select#
Editing value 055d3e to 05 in the European version loads an unused level select that also uses an unused background.
(Source: RayCarrot)
5th World Leftovers#
Evidently, the final boss was supposed to be in its own world. First, the sixth archstone in the hub world checks to see if the penultimate level "Spikes and Yikes" has been beaten in order to take you to the final boss' world. The final boss level is hardcoded to check if it's in World 5, something that no other level does. Furthermore, there is an empty world map in the game's data with the palette for Toy World.

Regional Differences#
Watch on YouTubeThe US version has a lot of bugs, from sprites not animating correctly to throwable objects flying in the wrong direction. There's also an infamous bug in one of the final levels that corrupts all of the graphics, due to the game failing to load a death animation for the Rabbid Robot.
These bugs were fixed in the European version.
Level Changes#
There were quite a few level changes between the two versions.
