SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis (PlayStation 2, Wii)

SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis is a video game based on the Season 5 special of the same name, which is mostly made up of various gameplay types such as walking rhythmically, puzzles (which also feature some walking around), and a shooter (which partially involves walking in a set path).

There's quite a bit of walking throughout this game.

While this was the final SpongeBob game to release on the PlayStation 2, this was not the final game on the console he'd appear in overall.

localstrings_globalspeechstringtable.ps2 has more dialogue testing strings. The third line comes from the song "Bend Me, Shape Me" by The American Breed, while the fourth is part of a line from the Season 1 episode "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost". The aforementioned lines do not have text-to-speech equivalents.

Platform Differences#

  • Texture quality is noticeably poorer in the PlayStation 2 version, likely due to memory constraints.
  • The options menu is simplified greatly in the Wii version, removing all video options and the vibration setting. The music also stops playing in the Wii version.
  • Subtitles are automatically enabled in the Wii version.
  • Blitz Games' logo lacks any sound in the PlayStation 2 version.
  • SpongeBob has a different model with pushed-in holes in the Wii version, like in the Wii version of Creature from the Krusty Krab. This only applies to the SpongeBob in the levels themselves, and not the customizable SpongeBob on the menu and "SwapBob SpareFace" screens.

Regional Differences#

  • The European and Australian versions lack the SpongeBob-esque title card in the opening cutscene. This is likely due to it being baked into the FMV, meaning that localizing it would require separate videos.

Oddities#

  • There is a brain hidden behind each eye of the SpongeBob on the menu and "SwapBob SpareFace" screens.
Hey, look, it's my brains!
