Flying Pikachu#

If a Pikachu knows the move Fly, is stored in a Cherish Ball, has an event location, and has the Fateful Encounter flag set, it will turn into Flying Pikachu, which will be able to fly (this is different than a Pikachu with the Poké Balloons toy attached). The model even has proper defined gender and shiny differences. As Pikachu cannot learn Fly, and the only way to get a Pikachu with the move Fly in Generation IV is by catching one in the Yellow Forest area of the Pokéwalker (which is not considered to be an event), it can never be seen in-game without modifications.

The Flying Pikachu model is also present in Pokémon Rumble and the Pokémon Fushigi no Dungeon: Boukendan games, still unused.

Japanese Update#

On November 5, 2008, an update was released in Japan that added compatibility with Platinum, as well as the following changes:

• Storage space is increased from 1,000 Pokémon to 1,500.
• The level cap is increased to 26.
• All Pokémon forms introduced in Platinum (Giratina Origin form, Shaymin Sky form, Rotom appliance forms) are added, and can be seen by depositing the corresponding Pokémon while in said form.
• 11 new toys and 3 new Club Look See members are added.
• All Club Look See ranches can now be revisited at any time.
• A menu option to change the music is added.
• 12 new animations are added.
• Photos stored on an SD card inserted into the Wii can now be added in bulk rather than individually. Additionally, the photo storage space is increased from 20 to 30.
• Pokémon in the Ranch can be filtered by type, number or category in addition to owner.

For unknown reasons, this update was never released outside of Japan.
