This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the original Generation IV games and the first mainline entries to not be developed by Game Freak (although Junichi Masuda did still serve as director). It turned out to be rather divisive due to its numerous glitches and being faithful to a fault when compared to previousremakesin the series - most notably, its minimal new content and lacking many of the story and gameplay improvements from Platinum.
Unlike previous remakes, these games are limited to the first 493 Pokémon available in Gen IV, with the new Grand Underground and Ramanas Park (replacing the original's Underground and Pal Park, respectively) allowing you to catch most of the Pokémon not native to Sinnoh.
To do:
Look into the unpatched base game, which includes, for example, placeholder music.
Unused items: Sport, Park, Dream, and Beast Balls, Prism Scale, Feathers, and Ice Stone. Sweet Heart has an icon. Seal Case and the unused Seal Bag were apparently renamed, but left unused.
Are any of the Pokétch apps that do not return unused in the game? (Berry Searcher, Link Searcher, Move Tester, Matchup Checker, and Stopwatch and Alarm Clock which were unused originally)
As with every other companion trainer in the game, your rival trainer has a fully-featured run animation, but goes unused in the final game. This is because it is only programmed to work when the player is running, and the player isn't given the Running Shoes until after your trainer character accompanies them to Lake Verity. However, it can be seen if the game has an uncapped frame rate through an emulator, or by modding.
Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl have two, mildly unsettling, music tracks hidden in the files, presumably composed/arranged by Junichi Masuda, as he's credited for the games' music despite his style not appearing amidst Shota Kageyama's contributions to the soundtrack. As "Nazo" is Japanese for "Mystery" this may have been planned for Mystery Zone. (which used an early version of the Route 206 (Day) music in the original games.) In the final game, when leaving a map's boundaries (in cases where a map connection isn't set), the game acts as if you're still on that map.
This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. Specifically: List the trainers that have fully-modeled hair.
Most of the trainer models that wear hats have fully-modeled hair.
An NPC in Hotel Grand Lake mentions landmarks from regions featured in previous Pokémon games, including Johto's Bell Tower (originally named “Tin Tower” in Gold/Silver/Crystal and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, but re-translated since HeartGold/SoulSilver). All languages use the updated name from HGSS, except English.
Have you heard of the Tin Tower in the
Johto region?

To do:
Adjustments to NPC trainers' teams, apparently.
Released November 11, 2021. A sizable patch that added several key features:
Multiplayer and online communications to the Grand Underground, Super Contest Shows, and the Union Room (though only support for one other player at a time).
Fixes two instances of Pokémon knowing unusable moves.
Removes Shaymin from Flower Paradise, as it was possible to use glitches to gain access and encounter it without the associated event item. Oddly enough, it is/was also possible to reach Newmoon Island in a similar fashion, but Darkrai wouldn't appear.
During rematches, Fantina's Banette knew Snatch. It was replaced with Payback.
Ace Trainer Meagan on Route 228 had a Delcatty that knew Feint Attack. It was replaced with Covet.
Adds Group Ranking machines in the Jubilife TV Station, allowing you to check rankings for players inside the Groups as well as Global Rankings for Pokémon, Battle Tower, and Super Contests.
The Union Room now supports up to 8 players, Capsule Decorations can now also be shown to others.
Adds the Colosseum battle feature.
The game will now detect Pokémon obtained through unintended means and blocks them from being used in Link Battles or Trades.
