Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the second entry in the Pokémon Legends series, where a tourist gets mugged immediately after entering Paris and cannot leave the city no matter how much they try. Being a sequel to the previous Kalos region game it heavily features AZ's Eternal Flower Floette, a Pokémon once thought to be for an event that was never released, finally being made available to players without save editing. The game’s Mega Dimension DLC also re-introduced the mythical Pokémon Hoopa and adds a whopping three new Z Mega Form Pokémon.

To do:

  • Pre-completion title screen.
  • Just about everything; the game's still new, even with DLC, so not much digging has been done. Trinity can extract most if not all of the base game's files by now.
  • Fix the overall presentation and format of the page.
  • Zygarde Cell and Zygarde Core's unused animations!
  • This is the first mainline Pokémon game to include a Latin American Spanish localization, so there are bound to be differences compared to the European Spanish script. Maybe these could go in Regional Differences.

Unobtainable Shiny Pokémon#

To do:

  • Model gifs for Shiny Hoopa (+ Unbound), Eternal Flower Floette + (Mega) and the Mega Dimension Mythicals, just like with previous games' pages.

Just like other games in the franchise, every Pokémon has a shiny variant. While the vast majority of them can be obtained through random encounters, a few remain unseen without hacking.

  • Shiny Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon still remains unreleased as it has been since Pokémon X and Y. Currently the only patterns obtainable in game are the Meadow, the Marine (only obtainable once per game from the "*Spewpa in the Museum*" sidequest), and the Garden pattern, which all Scatterbug and Spewpa originating in Hyperspace Lumiose evolve into.

PokemonLegendsZA_0720_ZA-2_Pokemon_Icon.png PokemonLegendsZA_0720U_ZA-2_Pokemon_Icon.png

  • Shiny Hoopa hasn't been made available in its Shiny form, being shiny locked since its debut in X & Y.

PokemonLegendsZA_0670EF_ZA-2_Pokemon_Icon.png I'm "in the game" but you sure don't own me right now.

  • While Eternal Flower Floette has finally been made available officially for the first time starting with this game, its Shiny Form still remains to see a release. Curiously, the menu icon for Shiny Mega Floette can be seen due to a bug in the Pokédex UI, if at least one shiny variant of a regular flower Floette is registered. This bug does not load the Shiny Mega model, however.

ShinyNormal-801.png All that glitters is not gold.

  • As with previous releases, Magearna is once again shiny locked. It has the same monochrome look as previous appearances. The Mega Evolution found in the DLC is normally gold, but the Shiny has the same color scheme as regular shiny Magearna.

  • The Original Color Shiny form of Magearna is also unreleased. The Mega Evolution of Shiny Original Color Magearna sports the same color scheme as Shiny Original Color Magearna.

Unobtainable Pokémon Forms#

  • Just like in the previous Legends game, it is impossible to breed Pokémon in order to obtain eggs. This time the egg seems to have gotten a proper icon of the model before being scrapped again.

PokemonLegendsZA_0718Cell_ZA-1_Pokemon_Icon.png PokemonLegendsZA_0718Core_ZA-1_Pokemon_Icon.png

  • Unused icons exist for Zygarde's Cells and Zygarde's Core. The cells are seen at various points in the story and the core is seen very briefly before Zygarde transforms into its 50% form in Hotel Richissime in the story. These icons may suggest these forms were going to be able to be used outside cutscenes at some point but were removed, although they have never been usable in any game. Their Shiny icons are repeats of the placeholder icon. Shiny Zygarde cells have appeared in media such as the anime, however.

Unused Graphics#

  • The placeholder boxed Pokémon icon, (which could appear in Scarlet & Violet, for example) exists in Z-A. The icon never actually appears in Legends: Z-A outside of its files, but was updated from previous appearances.

Unused Music#

To do:
Upload ripped audio where applicable.

Leftover fanfares#

Several fanfares from Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet remain in the game's files. These were likely used as placeholders before the final tracks were made. Their presumed roles have been added below.

Oddities#

Shiny Mareep Oddity#

For unknown reasons, Mareep spawning in Wild Zone 1 are prevented from being shiny until Side Mission 017 - A Shiny Mareep? is completed, despite the mission not requiring you to catch a shiny Mareep.

Version Differences#

1.0.1#

Base version for digital preloads, which went live on October 9th, 2025.

  • Allows access to online features.

1.0.2#

Went live on November 5th, 2025.

  • If the player fills up their Boxes before the first Rogue Mega Evolution battle and they didn't open the Boxes menu beforehand, catch attempts will no longer fail every time and side missions will now gift a Pokémon upon completion.
  • Fixed an issue where it was impossible to attack a Pokémon if a move hit them at the exact same time that the in-game time of day changed, which could have made some side missions impossible to complete.
  • If the player Mega Evolves a Pokémon right as the opposing trainer switches their Pokémon, the opposing trainer no longer breaks the game by failing to send out a new Pokémon.
  • The rewards received after each Ranked Battle match were partially increased.
  • Points awarded in ranked battles have been adjusted so they will never decrease.

! Placement ! Points Before 1.0.2 ! Points After 1.0.2 |- | 1st | 30 | 30 |- | 2nd | 10 | 20 |- | 3rd | -10 | 10 |- | 4th | -30 | 0 |}

  • An undocumented change occurred with the addition of the sprite for Baxcalibrite (the item itself had no data, however).
  • Other unspecified bug fixes.

1.0.3#

Released on November 26th 2025.

  • Fixed an issue in Ranked Battles Season 2 where some players were unable to claim the Mega Stone reward upon reaching the required rank.
    • Players who were affected by this issue can now receive the Mega Stone by simply accessing the Ranked Battle screen.

2.0.0#

Released on December 10th 2025.

  • Added support for the Mega Dimension DLC.
  • An undocumented change fixed an exploit that allowed players to temporarily increase the number of fixed Pokémon spawns in certain locations by luring the Pokémon a specific distance away from their spawn point.
  • Another undocumented fix changed the color of the tongue inside Shiny Greninja's mouth to match the color of its tongue "scarf".

1.0.0 - 1.0.3

2.0.0 - Current

  • In a fairly notable undocumented change, nearly 20 Pokémon had moves added to their level-up movepools. All newly-added moves have their base level requirement set to level 1 (making most Pokémon only able to learn these moves through the Move Reminder), and the level requirement for each move's corresponding Plus Move is set to level 10. Note that while the Mega Dimension DLC did introduce new moves for certain pre-existing Pokémon via the DLC-exclusive TMs, the changes listed here do not require the DLC to be installed.

  • On a similar note, several Pokémon adjusted the level requirement for one of their pre-existing moves.

2.0.1#

Released on January 21st, 2026.

  • The maximum amount of Mega Shards that can be carried at one time was increased to 9,999. Before this, the carryable amount capped out at just 999 Mega Shards.
  • Food stalls now allow players to buy multiple Berries at once.
  • After starting the story for the Mega Dimension DLC, players will be able to buy Berries from the clerk at Nouveau Café's Truck No. 3.
  • Fixed an issue in certain parts of hyperspace where Pokémon sometimes used moves while facing away from the intended target.
    • Presumably refers to an otherwise-unmentioned fix for the player-commanded Pokémon's pathfinding in Small Park Hyperspace.
  • Fixed an issue where the Mega Evolution Pokédex would refuse to register a Mega Evolution introduced in the Mega Dimension DLC for a shiny Pokémon that was obtained before the DLC was released, even after the corresponding Mega Stone was obtained.
    • Likely related to a glitch where Shiny Mega Raichu X and Shiny Mega Raichu Y sometimes wouldn't appear properly in the Mega Evolution Pokédex.
  • Fixed an issue where missions occasionally displayed images from unrelated scenes.
  • Fixed a bug where players would be unable to complete side mission 188 "Start Special Scanning!" even after earning the maximum number of survey points.
    • Players that experienced this bug before the patch can now progress the mission by entering and exiting hyperspace.
