To do: |
This game features some models that aren't used in-game but still exist in the ZZZZ.dat file.
Early Models#
There exists leftover early models of a few characters that are noticeably off-model; the final counterparts rather look more-or-less identical to how they appear in the GameCube-era Mario Party games.
Mario#
|
mario00 |
mario |
|---|---|
|
|
Two early models of Mario labelled mario00 and mario. mario00 uses a design similar to Mario's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee This early model of Mario include two seperate hand models, one set without any objects named L_hand_grip and R_hand_grip, and the other with Mario's baseball bat named L_hand_bat and R_hand_bat. The other mario model is similar mario00, but with more details on the overalls and with Mario's mouth being closed instead of open.
Mario's model in early build screenshots has some similarities to the unused models here.
Luigi#
An early mode of Luigi named luigi00 sporting a design similar to his appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee like Mario.
Luigi's model in early build screenshots appears to use a slimmer yet similar design to this one.
Diddy Kong#
An early model of Diddy Kong labeled dydy_skin_t00. This model is slightly different from the final model, with different proportions, textures, and a different posed model rather than a T-posed model.
Oddly, the Nintendo emblem on Diddy's hat is inverted (white outline on red), as it would appear in later games, first appearing in renders for Diddy Kong Racing DS before being implemented in-game in Mario Kart Wii.
Bowser#
|
koopa_t00 |
koopa_skintest00 |
|---|---|
|
|
Two early models of Bowser labelled koopa_t00, and koopa_skintest00. Both models share the same texture and model, similar to Bowser's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee, with adjustments between the arms and head between the two.
|
koopa_t00 with Earlier Texture |
koopa_skintest00 with Earlier Texture |
|---|---|
|
|
An earlier texture for the early Bowser models is present in the unused hitomi model's textures. The early texture closely resembles Bowser's appearance from Super Smash Bros. Melee with a darker skin tone and detailed hair.
Peach#
An early model of Peach labeled peach_test00, where Peach is wearing her princess dress instead of her sports uniform.
Daisy#
An early model of Daisy labeled daisy_t00. Just like peach_test00 this model of Daisy has her wearing her princess dress instead of her sports uniform.
Yoshi#
An early model of Yoshi taking inspiration from his design from Super Smash Bros. Melee with brighter colors.
Baby Mario#
An early model of Baby Mario which takes inspiration from Mario's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee with darker colors.
Baby Luigi#
An early model of Baby Luigi. Like Baby Mario, this model takes inspiration from Luigi's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee with darker colors.
Wario#
An early model of Wario labeled wario. This model of Wario has more saturated colors for the overalls, and a slimmer design overall. This early model is in an A-pose by default, rather than a T-pose.
This model of Wario was seen in the 2004 reveal and E3 2005 press-kit screenshots.
Waluigi#
An early model of Waluigi labeled waluigi. This model is slightly different from the final model, having a slightly different color for Waluigi's overalls. Waluigi is holding a plain baseball bat, likely before a bat design was made for Waluigi.
Like Wario, this model was seen in the 2004 reveal and E3 2005 press-kit screenshots.
Boo#
An early model of Boo labelled test with a slightly different design with longer arms and more realistic textures.
Unused Models#
Petey Piranha's Bat#
Found among Petey Piranha's files is an unused bat, located in both the right and left hand files. The design of this bat is taken from the vines seen in Super Mario Sunshine. In the final game, Petey Piranha bats with his leaf arms.
hitomi#
hitomi (Yoshino Hitomi Texture) |
hitomi (Early Bowser Texture) |
hitomi without Box |
|---|---|---|
hitomi is a model of a skeleton identical to 3D Studio MAX's Character Studio biped rigs inside of a box. Two versions of this model exist, one with the box using a texture cropped from a banner from Necchuu! Pro Yakyuu 2002, a Japanese-exclusive PlayStation 2 baseball game developed by Namco featuring the game's mascot Yoshino Hitomi. The other one uses an earlier texture for Bowser's early model.
Mario Super Sluggers would also feature a strange skeletal unused model similar to hitomi in it's files named test_actor.
taiki#
taiki |
Inside of bat |
|---|---|
taiki is an untextured model of a bat. However, zooming into the bat lies Bowser's early model posed in a batting animation. The bat model was likely meant to be posed with Bowser in this model.
Lakitu#
L_hand and R_hand |
L_hand_out and R_hand_out |
L_hand_safe and R_hand_safe |
|---|---|---|
Lakitu who appears in the games menus, challenge mode, and as the umpire, doesn't appear as a 3D model in the game. This model of Lakitu named jyugem has a very different appearance than Lakitu's usual appearance in 3D Mario games and contains three sets of hand models. Aside from R_hand and L_hand, there's also R_hand_out and L_hand_out meant for Lakitu gesturing an out, and R_hand_safe and L_hand_safe for Lakitu gesturing a safe play.
Heihachi#
|
|
To do: |
Heihachi from the Tekken series appears in the files, with the filename heihachi. This was most likely thrown in for testing since both Mario Superstar Baseball and Tekken were developed by Namco.
yakyukun00#
|
|
This needs some investigation. |
yakyukun00 is a model leftover from Family Stadium 2003, another baseball game for the GameCube developed by Namco.
Shell#
An unused model of a red Koopa shell labelled test. This texture contains a reflection texture and a greyscale version of the shell texture, likely meant to test specular reflections.
Early Mario's Hat#
Early Mario's hat named test, which comes with a reflection texture.
