Dictionary

This is a sub-page of Mario Superstar Baseball/Regional Differences.

In the Japanese version of Mario Superstar Baseball, there is an exclusive mode called "Dictionary", containing explanations of all the baseball terminology. This was cut from the international versions, presumably due to the amount of text that would need to be localized.

In the main menu of the Japanese version, Dictionary is placed between Practice and Records. The preview image for Dictionary has Mario and Toadsworth, accompanied by various screenshots of Mario Stadium, with an icon next to the English name are two pages of a book. The text on the bottom of the preview image reads "You can look up various terms related to baseball."

Upon selecting the mode, the game boots to a screen showing the baseball dictionary with Toadsworth's mugshot icon on the cover of the book. The bottom of the screen brings up this message to help the player with navigating the menu.

Pressing (A) will open up the Dictionary, showing all of the terms you can read through. The terms are organized by the Japanese gojūon syllabary order, with the menu arranged by kana groups such as か (ka), さ (sa), た (ta), and so on. Toadsworth can be seen throughout this mode, which along with his image on the front of the book suggests that he wrote it. Some terms allow the player to change pages to read more about the term by pressing (A), with the page counter on the bottom right listing how many pages the term has, as well as displaying which number page is currently being shown. The Dictionary mode also has an exclusive song playing throughout the mode, which isn't heard anywhere else in the game.

To do:
Provide codes to load Dictionary mode in the American and European versions.

Even though Dictionary was removed from the American and European release, the code for it still exists in the International versions being fully functional when loaded in with cheat codes. None of the text in the mode is translated into English but is defaulted to "none", due to the Japanese text not existing in the international versions. Instead of showing the book with Toadsworth's face, the game loads an early photo-realistic graphic of the book.
