This is a sub-page of Grand Theft Auto IV/Unused Mission-Related Content.
Search and Delete#
This mission has only an unused prompt where the player had to call Brucie by himself, which the game does automatically in the final after the player finds out where Lyle Rivas is.
Call Brucie.
Easy as Can Be#
Apparently, the developers initially wanted the player to lose the pursuers, which is not such an easy task since they teleport to player when he is not looking at them. Instead of trying to get rid of them, the player can simply drive to Brucie's garage, where the pursuers will leave on their own.
Lose the cars.
Roman Lending Money#
This phone call was probably meant to inform the player of the upcoming Hostile Negotiation mission, in which Roman would ask Niko where he can lend lots of money, which he apparently would not be able to do, causing him to get into trouble.
Character |

Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Roman |
Niko, this is important. Do you know anyone who can lend me money? |
|
Niko |
Roman, have you been gambling? I will give you any money you need. |
|
Roman |
I am talking serious money, Niko. This is not the sort of cash you carry around in your track pants. |
|
Speak to you soon. |
Out of The Closet#
This mission was initially set up differently, but the main goal was the same - eliminate Tom Rivas or just French Tom.
So, it looks like the player didn't have to use the internet to set up a date with Tom, instead Brucie had to set it all up and call the player at some point, most likely the mission worked similar to Hostile Negotiation or Paper Trail.

||
Niko, it's me. Listen, I've got a date for you with this guy at 6pm tonight. Good luck. |
||
Niko, it's me. I've got a date for you with this guy at midnight tonight. |
||
He must want action, bro. Give him some, okay? |
||
Niko, I've got a date for you with this guy tomorrow morning at 8am. Make it his last breakfast. |
||
Niko, I've got a date for you with this guy tomorrow at noon. Do it, will you? |
||
Niko, I've got a date for you with this guy tomorrow at 6pm. You better be there. |
||
Niko, I've got a date for you with this guy tomorrow night at midnight. Get rid of him. |
||
Niko. Hey, wake up! I've got a date for you with this guy, alright? |
||
Give it to him hard, will you? Strange choice of words, but you know what I mean. |
With this mission implementation, the player supposed to go on a date without even knowing how the person he needs to elimitate might look like, the developers knew about this factor and made a couple of fail phonecalls in case if player shot any other person in the diner that is not Tom Rivas.

What's wrong with you, brother? We'll talk soon. |
As for Tom Rivas himself, he has two models in the game files, but only one is used. Both models are exactly the same, but the unused one has glasses, which are not used anywhere.
No.1#
Once the mission starts, Brucie supposed to say the player where to drive, instead of calling Stevie, this explains why game already has waypoint before Brucie makes a call.

Escuela of the Streets#
This mission had placeholder cutscene at some point, as indicated by the unused line of text notifying about it.
PLACEHOLDER FOR MOCAP CUTSCENE
Another thing regarding the cutscenes is that Manny was supposed to wear even more accessories, such as a gold watch and bracelet, it's unknown why they were left unused.

Wipe out all the dealers. |
Make sure the warehouse is clear. |
Dealers also have unused lines, they were probably supposed to be connected with M1_ENTER, where after they saying one of the line the task of shooting all dealers would appear, this is the only explanation for this whole separation of lines and tasks.

Unused task that says to take down one dealer. Quite strange considering the warehouse has many dealers.
Take down the dealer.
However, the next unused task already makes sense to be associated with only one dealer, where the player had choice to either spare or kill the last target.
Choose the last man's fate.

Street Sweeper#
In american.gxt this mission has no connection to Manny as such, and it is signed as introduction for drive by (INDRVBY). In any case it has an unused task in which the player supposed to take a special car that would be marked on the map with a blue mark, in the final the use of any vehicle in this mission is not necessary.
Go and get a car to be used in the attack.
Phonecall from Manny#
Either after Escuela of the Streets or Street Sweeper, Manny could call the player to try to motivate him to keep completing missions for him.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Manny |
Yo, streets. I need you to come over here and help me with some aggressive public relations. |
|
Niko |
Not really my thing, but I'll come if you're paying. |
|
Manny |
Yo, streets need you, Niko. They'll pay. |
The Puerto Rican Connection#
The train initially behaved realistically in this mission, and did not pass Hove Beach station for unexplained reasons, but what was unrealistic was the fact that the player somehow knew that the targets did not get off at that station.
The target didn't get off here. Follow the train to the next station.
This mission has an unused hint telling the player to keep distance from targets car, which makes no sense since there is no goal of following them after they leave train, so player can kill them at any point when they get off the train.
You are too close to the targets car, back off.
Roman Being Followed#
This time Roman is hiding from people to whom he owes money, this was probably the last call from him after which Mallory would start calling the player, in which she would be interested where Roman dissapeared.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Roman |
Niko, Niko, I think I'm being followed. I swear it. |
|
Niko |
Roman, why're you whispering? Are you hiding in a trash can again or the trunk of a car. |
|
Do you want me to come pick you up? |
||
Roman |
Those other times I hid, I was right to be nervous, wasn't I? |
|
Niko |
This time is different because I haven't pissed anyone off. |
|
Roman |
Maybe I have, I owe a lot of money, Niko. |
|
I'm on a cold streak with the betting. I'll talk to you soon. |
Blow Your Cover#
This mission had more objectives that were left unused, probably because the player should intuitively understand what to do and where to go.
The N.O.O.S.E. team have the bottom of the apartment covered, you'll need to escape via the roof.
Help Playboy take out the N.O.O.S.E. team.
Clear out the floor above.
Follow Playboy up to the roof.
Playboy is in trouble. Go back and help him.
Follow Playboy across the roof.
Go down to the street.
Kill the cops and N.O.O.S.E.
Perhaps the player was originally supposed to take Playboy X not to his house, but to some other place, as indicated by this unused dialogue.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |

Playboy X |
That was crazy, money. You a good man to have around when the shit goes down. |

||
Niko |
Yeah? |
|
Playboy X |
For real. My crib's over on Galveston Avenue in North Holland. |
|
Come over there and you'll see what it's like rolling with the big boys. |
This dialogue would look a bit out of place, considering that the player would be right in front of the entrance to Playboy X apartment, and he tells where his apartment is, also the location of these apartments does not sound entirely correct, since they're closer to Xenotime Street in Northwood and not Galveston Avenue in North Holland.
Phonecall from Playboy X#
After Blow Your Cover, Playboy X could call the player to remind him that he expects him and got some stuff that needs to be done.
Character |

Now you talking. I got something for you, player. Come to my crib, you been there before. |
|
I'll show you what you can make of yourself when you start hustling. |
The Snow Storm#
The first thing to note about this mission is that in the american.gxt file the text of this mission is for some reason connected to Manny, and is listed as the sixth mission for him, however no other explanations have been found for this at the moment.
This mission has a couple of unused objectives that don't carry much meaning and only look like alternatives to the ones that already used by the game.

|
She was always saying she wanted to meet a mysterious man from the East. I thought she was kinky, |
||
I didn't think she'd be a cop. |
||
Niko |
That makes two of us. Later on, Roman. |
Have a Heart#
It seems that initially, destroying the bodies led to failure regardless of whether the player got rid of them far away or near Elizabeta's apartment.
|
Early |
Final |

|
The bodies have been destroyed. |
The bodies will be identified if left there, blow up the car. |
The doctor in this mission was supposed to be wearing glasses, however they've been left unused.
Jacob About Elizabeta#
According to the MF6_JBUST key from the american.gxt file, the following phonecall from Jacob about Elizabeta should have been received by the player either after The Snow Storm or Have a Heart mission, after which Elizabeta was about to be arrested.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |

Jacob |
Yo, me tink she kicked every ass inna South Bohan, ya know star. |
|
Niko |
Tell me about it. For now we should just worry about keeping out of prison. Speak to you soon, man. |
Deconstruction for Beginners#
Playboy X was picky about the transport the player could choose for this mission, however in the final version the player can choose absolutely any transport to get to the destination, be it a taxi or subway train Playboy X does not comment on this in any way.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Playboy X |

|
Yo, you definitely is from Eastern Europe. Driving this shit. |
||
Not exactly going to be turning them heads, is it? |
||
Nice ride, son. Let's roll. |
After arriving at the destination, Playboy X has an unused alternate line in which he tells the player to grab a gun from the trunk of the car, but perhaps the use of the trunk itself was not necessary here and it was enough for the player to just get in the car.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Playboy X |
I left some heat for you in that car, money. Pop the trunk and take what you need. |
Considering that the following unused lines from Playboy X have no radio effect, it is likely that he could have say them when the player was eliminating site lookouts from cranes.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |

Playboy X |
Damn, son. You got him good. |

When leaving Playboy X he was supposed to test the radio's functionality by saying the following unused line
Character |

Photo Shoot#
This mission is unusual because in the files it is listed as the first mission for Playboy X, while in the game itself it is already the second. However, this only applies to files such as text, audio and animations, cutscenes and other files already consider this mission to be the second.
Anyway, the dialogue between the gangsters was much longer than in the final.

|
So shut the fuck up. |

Second Gangster |

The mission was a bit limited initially and required the player to strictly follow the tasks, as evidenced by the unused mission failture text for being seen, and the phonecall if the player decided to shoot everyone on the court, without finding out which of the gangsters there is Marlon.
Your cover is blown, you were seen.
Character |

Playboy X |
What you doing, man? You not thinking. |
|
I didn't even tell you what Marlon looked like. Get it together and come see me. |
Ruff Rider#
Ruff Rider is a somewhat unusual mission, as it has both final and early design that the developers didn't really tried to remove from the files, so it's worth starting from early one.
Early Version#
The first thing the player should do is go and find Jayvon and Bernice inside the video arcade, not outside like in the final version of the game, obviously the place originally had some kind of interior.
Go to the video arcade!
Find Jayvon and Bernice in the arcade!
Then the player had to either take Bernice or deal with the gang, there is no order in the .gxt file, so it is impossible to determine exactly in what order the mission took place.
Get Dwayne's Ex!
Kill the gang!
The interior also had an office that the player had to go down to.
Go downstairs to the Office!
Take out the gang!
At the end, the player had to exit the arcade
Get out of the Arcade!
And that's all that's left from the text. This mission doesn't have any audio, but it does have some animations.
First of all, this mission could have involved three unused animations related to playing on slot or vending machines.

Further, it had an animation of pleading, both its start and idle

And the most interesting thing is that there is an animation of a crowd chanting, the name of the animation contains the letter F, usually such a clarification is made if the animation is intended for female character, perhaps it could have been Cherise or Bernice in this case.

Finalized Version#
Even after abandoning the early idea, the developers made some changes to the finalized version of this mission. Apparently, initially in this version of the mission the player had to kill both Cherise and Jayvon both text and audio left from this idea.
They're separating to lose you, take them out.
Cherise got away.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |

Dwayne, I'm sorry. They got away from me. You're still out of pocket. |
|
Dwayne |
Shit. Having no paper ain't good but it ain't nothing I ain't seen before. See you round, man. |
|
Niko |
Dwayne, it's Niko. Your ex lost me. She had a motorbike. |
Instead of Cluckin Bell, Niko was originally supposed to meet Dwayne somewhere in Middle Park, as evidenced by the audio.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |

Niko |

When picking up the money from Jayvon, Niko had to say one of these lines.
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Niko |
This belongs to a friend of mine. |
|
This ain't yours. Belongs to Dwayne |
The mission also has a few unused animations. The first is that instead of kissing, Cherise and Jayvon were supposed to only hug.

The second animation is someone pleading, possibly Jayvon, since Cherise has her own animation for that.

Now the option of killing Playboy X;
In this option, the player supposed not just go to the door to the mark, but go into the lobby and use elevator there, as this unused task indicates.
Use the elevator to get up to Playboy's apartment.
One of the gangsters defending Playboy X supposed to shout the following lines

Chase Playboy down and get rid of him.
After dealing with Playboy X, the subsequent call to Dwayne was different, in which Dwayne would not say anything about the fact that he has papers from Playboy X' apartment, which means the player would receive only Dwayne as a friend and nothing more for eliminating Playboy X.
Character |

Let's get this over with then. |
In conclusion, it is also worth noting that this mission, or at least Minkov's apartment, was involved in the demo version on the Xbox 360, which included interaction with both the front and the back entrance to the apartment, in the final version the player cannot open the door from back entrance and leave the apartment through it.
Presumably after this mission Jacob was supposed to call and ask Niko about Michelle.

Portrait of a Killer#
This mission has nothing really interesting, except two lines from one of the enemies from this mission, in which he begs the player to not kill him. The lines not unique and can be heard from one of the russian gangsters if they get injured.

Call and Collect#
This mission was supposed to be a bit more varied initially, however, the main objective was always the same.
First thing to note is that the blackmailer has an unused model of cap, which was obviously supposed to be used in this mission.
The blackmailer supposed to have a different phone ringtone, which has been left unused.
The blackmailer could spot the player and say one of the following lines:
Character |

|
Hey, wait a second. Shit. |
There are also a couple of other lines that for some reason don't have any tag to them, but from their content it can be assumed that this would apply if blackmailer spot the player during or after a phone call.
Character |

Blackmailer |

It is likely that if the player did not call the blackmailer for some time but was near him, he would get bored and could say one of the following lines, these lines is under the FM1_BORED tag
Character |
Clip |
Subtitle |
|---|---|---|
Blackmailer |
I don't got all day. |
|
Shit, he clearly want this stuff on the news. |
The mission had more hints, apparently the developers thought that this mission would cause difficulties for players in detecting the blackmailer.
The blackmailer will be somewhere around here.
Wait for the text from Francis to get the blackmailer's phone number.
The blackmailer is still in the area. Search for him.
The most interesting part of this mission is the chase.
As it turns out, this mission could have not only two options for its completion, but also two options of chasing the blackmailer. It turns out that the blackmailer had to run to the cars, where the chase would continue in this way. After arriving to the viewpoint, the game spawns two open cars next to the player - Uranus and Sabre, both mission script and text leftover have the FLEE_CAR line, which perfecrly proofs that the blackmailer had to run to these spawned cars.
The blackmailer has entered a car, don't let him get away.
This part of mission was probably scrapped in favor of the option where player gets rid of the blackmailer by killing him in the water, since if he ran to the cars, the player simply would not have such opportunity.
The blackmailer have several unused lines related to being chased by the player.
These lines are split in the american.gxt file, one part is labeled as FM1_CHASE, while the other is labeled as FM1_CHASE2, probably this split would make sense if the blackmailer changed the stage of the chase, like getting into a car.

Wouldn't it be easier just to pay? |
There is also a third set of lines related to being chased that are not have any tag connected to them, perhaps the developers did not assign them to any of the groups.

american.gxt contains subtitles for a couple of lines, audio of which was either removed or never existed, it seems that they planned for Niko to also comment on the chase after the blackmailer.
Oh fuck.
This isn't right.
Hey, come back here so I can kill you.
Among the text there is an unused line which specifies that the blackmailer is fleeing on foot.
