This page details one or more prototype versions of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom (GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox).

A demo of the game can be found on PlayStation 2 Kiosk Demo Disc 2.12. While most of the files post-date the final release, a few are from June 25th, 2003.

Save Icons#

All of the save icons are different and taken from an earlier build of the game.

Demo

Final

Some notable differences:

  • The images seem far more compressed than the ones used in the final game.
  • Robo-Sandy's health meter uses a design that resembles the Krusty Krab tables; the final game uses a more simplified design.
  • The images for Robo-Patrick and Robo-Spongebob are missing their boss health meters.
  • White steam is coming from the drain in the Robo-Patrick fight, something that doesn't happen in the final. Additionally, Robo-Patrick himself seems to be in the middle of doing his unused idle animation.
  • Robo-SpongeBob's image shows him during the unused "MuscleBob" phase. For obvious reasons, the final version instead shows him during his first phase.
  • While this could possibly result from the images' poor compression, the lighting in multiple areas appears to be noticeably different than in the final (this is most prominent in the images for Flying Dutchman's Graveyard and Kelp Forest).
  • The demo doesn't have save icons for the levels accessed in the second section of the hub (specifically Sand Mountain, Rock Bottom and the Mermalair).
