Guess Who I Saw Today?#

A cut objective has been recovered for this quest from this build:

Objective Index

Objective

11

(Optional) Stabilize the Stealth Boy Mark II's stealth field.

This reveals that at one point there was an optional objective to stabilize a prototype. This is related to a series of scripts and messages still present in the final. The Mark II prototype to be repaired is present in game in this build, located on a table on the left hand side of Doctor Henry's lab in the lodge. It is not known yet what the consequence of doing this would be, however.

Why Can't We Be Friends?#

Multiple remnants of the early iteration of this quest can be found in ESM data recovered from this dump, including a set of generic barks for the Vault 19 Powder Gangers to react to the events that occur in the quest:

Powder Ganger

These are of interest as they mention events that either don't happen or occur differently in the final game. The Powder Gangers comment on the Great Khans and them forming an alliance, in the final the Powder Gangers simply become Great Khans. There is mention also of Cooke picking a target, as well as rebuilding the Vault, two things that don't happen normally. There is a cut location bark for Cass present in the July build also, where she alludes to the Powder Gangers and Khans attacking the Legion.

Two cut objectives for this quest also imply changes to the first half of the quest:

Objective Index

Objective

40

Report back to either Samuel Cooke or Philip Lem.

50

Speak with Papa Khan in Red Rock Canyon and forge an alliance on behalf of the Powder Gangers.

In the final game, Lem and Cooke have different first tasks for the player, with Cooke asking the player to kill geckos beneath the vault and Lem wanting the player to destroy the sulfur deposits. In this iteration of the quest, both Cooke and Lem task the player with eliminating the geckos. The VMS42ExitScript reveals that the leader the player sided with would have killed the other. In the final, only Cooke will kill Lem, Cooke simply leaves the vault. Also notable is that Lem wants to join the Great Khans, here there is no mention of surrendering to the NCR, suggesting his character was quite different originally.

Unused Location#

New Caesartown#

A map marker for a location named "New Caesartown". This is actually placed where the normal Jacobstown map marker is, suggesting it was simply an alternative marker for that location, possibly intended for the post game.

Unused Dialogue#

Powder Gangers#

Some lines of dialogue for generic Vault 19 Powder Gangers. Note that there are lines here to comment on a completed alliance - in the final they simply disappear when this happens.
