This is a sub-page of Proto:Fallout: New Vegas/April 17, 2010/Unused Audio.
Dialogue for an earlier, more complicated version of the quest. This dialogue reveals that the first stage of the quest was originally more complex, with the player needing to obtain permission to update station security. There was a cut outcome here also, to sabotage the Rangers instead. The second stage of the quest was more involved also, with the player needing to visit all six stations, as opposed to just three in the final. There is a lot of additional dialogue present too, which provides more info on the factions and characters involved in the quest.
Camp Forlorn Hope
Tech Sergeant Reyes#
Tech Sergeant Reyes has a lot of dialogue for the quest Return to Sender that is either additional commentary or pertains to unused scenarios.
|
|
To do: |
Station Security Upgrade#
Reyes would use this dialogue when offering the quest to the player. The first two lines of dialogue listed are present in the final build; they are included here to help provide context for the third line which is unused and intended to be played at the end of the sequence.
Dialogue for accepting and refusing this part of the quest.

I'll upload an encryption program to your Pip-Boy. Travel to the Ranger stations and speak with the officers in charge of radio traffic. |

Have them use the program on your Pip-Boy and it will scramble, so that any eavesdropper hears static. |

How about I just upload my Pip-Boy journal and we can talk about it later. |

Sabotage#
These lines are intended for a cut outcome to the first part of the quest where the player could hijack the stations instead of upgrading them. They would then be able to extort Reyes for a sum of money, or cover up for their actions.

Half of your stations are leaking signals to the enemy, it'd be wise to pay me. |
Player |
Four of your stations were compromised...I'd say that's worth a hefty price. |
Player |
Five of your stations were compromised...I'd say that's worth a hefty price. |

Investigate The Questionable Reports#
This dialogue is to introduce stage 2 of the quest, which saw the player investigate a series of questionable reports that have been received from the ranger stations.
Speaker |
Dialogue |

Player |
What sort of troubling reports are we talking about? |
|
Reyes |
We've had reports of super mutants working for Caesar, trained deathclaws and shortages of vital supplies. |
0010e001 |
Reyes |
If all of this is true, someone's going to need to reassess just how much manpower it's going to take to man this area. |
0010e001 |
Reyes |
And frankly, some of the troopers are getting word of these reports, and it's beginning to effect morale. |
0010e001 |
Player |
Can't you just call the stations and talk to them? |
|
Reyes |
Been trying that for a while now. The Comm Officers are good chaps, and they help me corroborate some facts and figures. |
00127acb |
Reyes |
But my unsolved cases involve matters reported by senior rangers who live in the field and rarely, if ever, pick up the radio. |
00127acb |
Reyes |
The best Rangers tend to be a touch anti-social. So I'd need you to find them on patrol and talk face to face. |
00127acb |
Player |
Is there a short version to this? |
|
Reyes |
Point is - less than a third of report enemy sightings are getting intercepted. Either out intel is faulty, or our enemy is one step ahead of us. |
0010d2d2 |
Reyes |
I suspect someone is listening into the NCR Rangers radio network. I need to have their radio stations updated with new encryptions. |
0010d2d2 |

Your welcome. |

Reyes |
Before you go, I want to propose another task for you. You proved yourself to be dependable, and I need someone I can trust. |
00127ad0 |
Player |
There's more? |
|
Reyes |
As much as I enjoy being the NCR's paperwork whore, I actually do have ambitions of moving up to a higher position. |
00127b09 |
Reyes |
I have a stack on unfinished case files, and I'll never get promoted If I can't finish a bunch of after action reports. Maybe you can help. |
00127b09 |
Player |
Let me guess - your childhood dream job was military auditor? |

I talked to Ranger Lineholm at Alpha Station... |
|
Reyes |
Did you confirm the numbers for the Ranger casualties? |
00127b04 |
Player |
There haven't been any real losses - your data is wrong. |
|
Reyes |
My data is wrong? Fat chance of that. I have nothing better to do than triple check every figure that comes by my desk. |
0011c116 |
Reyes |
Still, I trust Lineholm at her word. Someone's feeding me bad intel but it's not her. |
0011c116 |
Player |
I followed up on the supply issue at Bravo station... |
|
Reyes |
Great, what's the situation? |
00127b21 |
Player |
They're swimming in munitions - they're receiving constant unwanted shipments. |
|
Reyes |
That explains why they haven't called in for supplies. Still, if we can't get our supply network in order, what hope do we have against Caesar? |
00127b13 |
Player |
So about the medical supplies at Charlie station... |
|
Reyes |
Thanks for checking on that, do they have excess first aid gear that could be redistributed? |
0011c11b |
Player |
Yes, someone sent a wealth of supplies in response to a broken leg. |
|
Reyes |
Strange. We're not exactly swimming in surplus medicine, though I guess I'm not surprised that Rangers get supply side favouritism. |
0011c114 |
Player |
I'm done. And I found Charlie Station destroyed. |
|
Reyes |
The Station's been silent for quite some time now. I guess this confirms what we've all feared. Thanks for letting me know. |
00127af8 |
Player |
The station has been overrun and picked clean. |
|
Reyes |
This is terrible news, I'll inform Ranger command. |
0011c120 |
Player |
I looked into the report of the report of the Super Mutants operating near Delta Station... |
|
Reyes |
How many are there? I hope we'll have the firepower to put these monsters down. |
0011c110 |
Player |
No. No such sighting ever happened. |
|
Reyes |
Well, I'm relieved that's just a rumour, still I need to figure out who started this whole story in the first place. |
0011c11e |
Reyes |
A lot of the NCR soldiers take these rumours to heart. We're not gonna secure The Strip and Hoover Dam if morale is failing. |
0011c11e |
Player |
I went to Foxtrot Station to get a confirmation about those deathclaws… |
|
Reyes |
I'd like to believe the Rangers killed all the deathclaws, but I'm sure that's wishful thinking. |
00127ae0 |
Player |
They said they reported no such thing. |
|
Reyes |
I knew there was something strange about that report, but Foxtrot is far away, and it's hard to get a reliable signal to call in a confirmation. |
00107761 |
Player |
You can check Echo station off your list... |
|
Reyes |
Great, what did you find out? |
00127adf |
Player |
The senior officer says sightings have been sparse recently - your data is wrong. |
|
Reyes |
Well, that's just strange. That means the Rangers are sending me the wrong figures, or an enemy is sending bogus reports. |
0011c12e |
Reyes |
Either way, thanks for following up on that. I knew there was something wrong with the numbers. |

00127af0 |
Reyes |
But all he ended up doing was scaring the conscripted men and women. NCR is too stubborn to let caution influence their decisions. |
00127af0 |

So what exactly did you and Hanlon conspire to do now? You said he wants to fix this? How? |

00127ac9 |
Reyes |
If he stood trial, we'd just deprive the NCR of a hero figure, and probably get someone with a whole new set of flaws as a replacement. |

Okay, I agree. Let's make this happen. Now I just need to figure out how I'll phrase my report. |

He was trying to scare the NCR command into leaving New Vegas, to save lives. |
|
Reyes |
I see...well, that explains the crazy rumors and exaggerated enemy contact and casualty numbers. |
00122c4f |
Reyes |
With every radio message going through Hanlon's desk, he could've kept his misinformation campaign going for quite some time. |

Sorry pal, but you're no friend of the NCR, and I don't have much patience for this whole story you're blabbing about. |
001167DF |
Alternatively, the player could request the password so they could the update themselves:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I'm supposed to update the security on your radio. I'll need the password. |
|
Castillo |
So some stranger just walks up and asks me for the password? Do I look like an idiot to you? |
00116544 |
From here they could pass either a science or reputation check to obtain the password:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Well, I doubt you could run a polynomial kernal fourier transformation process. |
|
Castillo |
Uh, a what now? Actually, don't bother explaining. Just do whatever it is you need to do. |
00116553 |
Castillo |
I'll write down the password for you. Just fix whatever needs fixing, and move along. |
00116553 |
Player |
But you'll need me to...create a GUI with visual basic to track an IP address. |
|
Castillo |
That's the second dumbest thing I think I've ever heard. |
00116552 |
Player |
Sergeant Reyes from Camp Golf sent me. It's a matter of great importance. |
|
Castillo |
Just having a laugh with you. I heard about you over the radio chatter, and if Reyes trusts you that's good enough for me. |
00116548 |
Castillo |
Here's the password for the terminal. Do what you need to do. |
00116548 |
Player |
Sergeant Reyes from Camp Golf sent me. It's a matter of great importance. |
|
Castillo |
That's an interesting story and all, but I don't know you, and don't trust you. I think it's time you mosey along out of here. |
0011654D |
Alternatively, the player could choose to start combat:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Those are fighting words. |
|
Castillo |
Are you kidding me? Don't make me have to bury you a grave in the desert. |
0011654E |
Player |
Bad choice of last words. |
|
Castillo |
Damn wastelanders making my job difficult. |
0011654C |
The player originally could also discuss the second part of the quest with him:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I'm investigating the rising casualty figures at this Station. |
|
Castillo |
Rising casualties? We really aren't engaged in combat operations these days. I wonder where you're getting your information. |
00127ADC |
Castillo |
Yeah, we've picked off some Legion folk scouting the Dam, but we're mostly an eyes and ears operation. Can't think of the last time we lost someone. |
00127ADC |
Castillo |
You ought to talk to Lineholm. She's on patrol somewhere in the area. She's our co and this sounds like a question for her. |
0011654C |
Player |
Lots of Ranger deaths are being reported and it has people worried. |
|
Castillo |
Yeah, I'd be a little puzzled to if something were killing rangers. But I haven't seen so much as a broken arm in weeks. |
0011678B |
Castillo |
Look, you probably ought to speak to Ranger Lineholm. She's our senior officer, and she's been here the longest. You'll find her patrolling the area. |
0011678B |
Player |
That's odd, because Alpha Station has been reporting heavy losses. |
|
Castillo |
Then it sounds like the NCR has drunken inbreds running the numbers. |
0011678C |
This dialogue is for a seperate branch where the player attempts to secure firearms from the station:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
[Lie] Camp Golf needs to arm up some recruits - I'm collecting spare weaponry. |
|
Castillo |
Right. Why don't you turn around? Before I put a bullet in your eye? |
00116542 |
Player |
Hold on, let me get my LSC-19 requisition form, I'll show you the triplicate. |
|
Castillo |
Spare me the damn paperwork. We've got extra weapons and I don't want some civilian going unarmed. |
00116543 |
Castillo |
I'll give you my service revolver, so I can do my good deed for the day and get you to leave me alone. |
00116543 |
Player |
Yeah, I'm supposed to get your rifles to uh...secure the homeland. |
|
Castillo |
Kid, I don't have time for this nonsense. |
00116551 |
Comm Officer Tilden#
Some generic dialogue for this NPC:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Tilden |
Hi there, what brings you so far into the desert? |
00116B3A |
Player |
||
Tilden |
Welcome back. |
0012B87B |
Player |
Seen anything unusual? |
|
Tilden |
Well, Legion cronies wandering about is hardly unusual so no, sorry. |
0011808F |
Tilden |
Look kid, tour guide is not in my job description. State your business or get on out of here. |
0011808F |
The player could then ask about upgrading the station's security:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I'm here on business. |
|
Tilden |
Really? And what kind of business is that? |
00116BAF |
Here the player requests he update the station's security. If the player had sufficient NCR reputation, he would agree without argument:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I need you to run this security update on your radio's computer. |
|
Tilden |
Well, nobody told me about no security upgrade scheduled. Whatever's going on, I don't trust it. |
00118089 |
Player |
I need you to run this security update on your radio's computer. |
|
Tilden |
Say, didn't realise they'd send the Courier on such a task. Been hearing about you, good things, mostly. |
00116EF2 |
Tilden |
Sure, I'll run the update. Thanks for coming all this way. |
00116EF2 |
If not, they would need pass a speech check:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
<Speech 61> It wouldn't be much of a security upgrade if it was announced over the radio. |
|
Tilden |
Oh, right. Guess that would've been pretty stupid. I'll get that upgrade installed right away. |
00116EEB |
Player |
<Speech under 61> It's really super secret. Double dog classified, that's why you didn't know. |
|
Tilden |
This all sounds like a load of Brahmin manure. Quit wasting my time. |
00116EF0 |
Alternatively, they could request the password to run the update themselves:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I'm here to update the security on your radio. I'll need the password. |
|
Tilden |
So, you want me to just give you the password? Are you on jet? I've got half a mind to put a bullet in you. |
00116EEE |
With a positive NCR rep, he would give the player the password:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Sgt. Reyes assigned me to the task - ask her if you don't trust me. |
|
Tilden |
I've heard good things about you, so go ahead and do whatever Reyes needs you to do. I'll write down the password for you. |
00116EF3 |
Player |
Sgt. Reyes assigned me to the task - ask her if you don't trust me. |
|
Tilden |
Look, I don't care who sent you. You're not authorized to be here, but I am authorized to kill you. So how about you start moseying on out of here? |
00116EE9 |
Player |
Glad that's done. Bye. |
|
Tilden |
Bye now. |
00116EEC |
The player also had the option to either give up or start combat:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Forget it, this is clearly a waste of my time. |
|
Tilden |
Run along now. |
00116EF1 |
Player |
I'd like to see you try, old man. |
|
Tilden |
With pleasure. |
00116EEA |
Player |
Time to die. |
|
Tilden |
Last mistake you'll ever make, pal. |
00116EEF |
They could ask about the second part of the quest also:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I need to ask about your supply shortages. |
|
Tilden |
Shortage? Kid, you've got your facts wrong. Speak with Ericsen, she's in charge around here. She'll tell you about our supply situation. |
00116EF4 |
The player could also attempt to procure some of the station's surplus supplies:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
<Speech 21> |
|
Tilden |
You need supplies? Boy are you in luck kid, we're swimming in surplus ammo. Here, have some, now leave me alone. |
0011807E |
Player |
<Speech under 21> |
|
Tilden |
Look kid, I don't have time for your stupid stories. How about you just leave me the hell alone. |
00118083 |

Welcome to Ranger Station Charlie. Hope you have a good reason for being here. |
00116b3b |
Player |
<Repair check @ 55> |
|
Stepinac |
I, uh...yeah, ok. Fine. I'll write down the password. If you tinker with anything you're not supposed to touch, I'll slit your throat. |
00118079 |
Player |
<Repair check @ 55> |
|
Stepinac |
What the hell kind of techno babble is that? Do you write fiction in your spare time? Stay the hell away from my radio. |
0011807a |
Player |
<Speech check @ 30> |
|
Stepinac |
Fair enough. I'll take it from here. |
00118090 |
Player |
<Speech check @ 30> |
|
Stepinac |
You've got to be kidding me. Just get on out of here before I forcibly remove you. |
00118091 |
Player |
Before I go, Sgt. Reyes needs to know the situation with your medical supplies. |
|
Stepinac |
Yeah, we get one broken leg and we're shipped enough stims to resuscitate a legion of super mutants. |
00127b12 |
Stepinac |
I've radioed to Ranger command on several occasions that we're overstocked with meds, but nobody seems to care. |
00127b12 |
Stepinac |
Here, I'll put the request in writing. Give the geniuses in charge of logistics my regards. |
00127b12 |
Player |
Hold on - just playing around. No harm meant. |
|
Stepinac |
Take your bullshit somewhere else. |
00118072 |
Player |
I need to talk to you about the radio. |
|
Stepinac |
Don't tell me, you've got a piece of shrapnel in your head, and you're picking up our signals. |
00116bad |
Player |
Seen anything unusual around these parts? |
|
Stepinac |
<Temp line for reactivity for the prepare for take-off event.> |
0011808a |
Player |
Sorry, I have to get going. |
|
Stepinac |
See you around. |
0011806f |
Player |
The NCR sent me to run a security upgrade to eliminate eavesdroppers. |
|
Stepinac |
Nobody, and I mean nobody messes with that radio. If it needs fixing, I'm the one to do it. |
0011807b |
Player |
The NCR sent me to run a security upgrade to eliminate eavesdroppers. |
|
Stepinac |
Too bad they sent you. Heard about you, and I'm not letting you anywhere near our radio. |
0011806e |
Player |
Time to die. |
|
Stepinac |
If it's a fight you want... |
00118075 |
Player |
Your hat would make a nice trophy. |
|
Stepinac |
Oh, we got ourselves a tough guy, do we? |
00118098 |
Comm Officer Scheffer#
The Comm Officer has unused lines which elude to her having a debt with one of the casinos.
These lines would be used when opening a conversation with her. She could also be questioned on if anything interesting is happening at the station.
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Scheffer |
I'm not supposed to let civilians just walk around this place, there better be a good reason for you being here. |
00116B3C |
Player |
||
Scheffer |
Trooper, I'm pretty sure you're not authorised to be here. Now, what do you want? |
0012B95D |
Player |
||
Scheffer |
Why are you still here? |
0012B95E |
Player |
What's going on around these parts? |
|
Scheffer |
Just Caesar's goons trying to cross the river. So, what exactly are you doing here? |
0011809A |
The player could then begin to ask her about upgrading the station's security:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
I'm here on official business. |
|
Scheffer |
Really now? And who the hell sent you this far into the wasteland on an errand? |
00116BB1 |
Scheffer |
If you're here to collect a debt, you better be armed. |
00116BB1 |
The player could lie and pretend to be a debt collector:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Scheffer |
Really now, and which one? |
00118087 |
After this, the player would need to guess which casino she had the debt with:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Scheffer |
That's funny, as I've never been to Gomorrah. |
0011E466 |
Player |
||
Scheffer |
Great, I'll send them (him?) your severed head, as a message to quit harassing me. |
0011A500 |
Player |
||
Scheffer |
Hmm...Okay, and who exactly sent you? |
0011A502 |
If the player had chosen The Tops, they would need to pass a speech check to continue the conversation:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
<Speech 45> Slow down, I'm here to tell you they're done trying to collect. |
|
Scheffer |
Oh, finally. I paid that debt and interest five months ago, you bastards stop trying to milk more caps out of me. |
0011A505 |
Scheffer |
Now, get out of here before I shoot the messenger. |
0011A505 |
Player |
<Speech under 45> Hey now, don't uh... get all mad and stuff just because you owe lots of caps. |
|
Scheffer |
Less talking, more dying. |
0011A506 |
If they had chosen the Ultra Luxe, they would need to either specify Marjorie or pass a speech check:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Scheffer |
A debt is a debt, I can pay half now. Not holding out on you, that's just all I've got on me. |
0011A501 |
Player |
<Speech 57> I wasn't given a name, just told that the blackjack pit boss expects payment. |
|
Scheffer |
Hey, can you blame me for liking blackjack? Best odds in the house. |
0011A503 |
Player |
<Speech under 57> You know, that guy. Who you owe money to. That guy. Trust me. |
|
Scheffer |
How about you just mosey on out of here before I shoot you for trespassing? |
0011A504 |
From here they could accept half payment, let her off with warning or pass a barter check for payment in full:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
That'll do. |
|
Scheffer |
Ok, take your damn caps. |
0011E463 |
Player |
Just consider this a reminder to pay - I'm not going to take your caps...today. |
|
Scheffer |
Are you serious? Okay, well thanks. I'll pay up next time I'm at the Strip. |
0011E467 |
Scheffer |
Now, I need to ask you to leave. This is a restricted area, after all. |
0011E467 |
Player |
<Barter 65> If you were truly out of caps, you wouldn't have made a point of saying so. |
|
Scheffer |
Okay, fine, but now we're done. If I get another collector coming by to extract interest payment, there's going to be trouble. |
0011E464 |
Player |
<Barter under 65> Half? Not fair! I'm going to hold my breath until you pay me more! |
|
Scheffer |
Sorry, that's all I've got on me. Tell your boss I'll pay up soon enough. |
0011E465 |
The player could use this an alternative method of convincing her to upgrade the station security:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
In exchange for letting you off the hook - how about you do a favour for me... |
|
Scheffer |
I guess it depends on what you have on mind? |
00129982 |
Player |
Run this update for me - as a favour to me and Sgt. Reyes. |
|
Scheffer |
Fair enough. If this update messes up the radio, I'm going to track down both you and Reyes, and feed you to the molerats. |
00129983 |
Scheffer |
Now run along, I'd hate to have to kill you. |
00129983 |
Here the player asks her about upgrading the station:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Sgt. Reyes from Camp Golf - I'm here to update the security on your radio. |
|
Scheffer |
Oh, that's all? Yeah, go ahead. If you're qualified to work on the computer you've no doubt been given the password. So have at it. |
0011808E |
This would lead to the following topics:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Scheffer |
You're kidding me, right? You came all this way, and now... |
0011809C |
Player |
If I just give you the upgrade, can you install it? |
|
Scheffer |
No, do your own damn job. Seriously, wastelanders get lazier and lazier every year. Need me to wipe your ass for you to? |
00127B08 |
Player |
Sgt. Reyes sent me but she didn't have the password. |
|
Scheffer |
Odd, she sent you but didn't give you the password? Now this sounds suspicious. What the hell are you playing at? |
00118085 |
If told that they'd been sent by Reyes, they could pass this speech check to obtain the password:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
<Speech 71> She's just a conscript desk jockey - I can't pretend to know why she'd forget. |
|
Scheffer |
I forget those glorified soldiers over at Camp Forlorn Hope aren't exactly the republic's finest. |
00127B07 |
Scheffer |
Ok, here's the password. Do what you need to do and then be on your way. |
00127B07 |
Player |
<Speech under 71> I was told I'm supposed to test you to see if you knew the password. |
|
Scheffer |
You really need to quit whatever drugs you're on. This conversation is done, get your job done, then get lost. |
00127B08 |
If the player had told her that they'd forgotten the password, they could pass this speech check instead:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
<Speech 66> I'd be a fool to write down sensitive information like passwords. > |
|
Scheffer |
Yeah, yeah, good point. Don't want to get captured and hand over sensitive information. I get it, here's the password. |
001180A0 |
Player |
<Speech under 66> I was told I'm supposed to test you to see if you knew the password. |
|
Scheffer |
You really need to quit whatever drugs you're on. This conversation is done, get your job done, then get lost. |
001180A1 |
The player could also start combat instead:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |

Player |
Get ready to die. |
|
Scheffer |
Oh, this'll be fun. |
0011807C |
This is dialogue for looking for Passon as part of the second part of the quest:
Speaker |

Player |

Comm Officer Green#
Generic dialogue for Green:
Sample |
Filename |
Form ID |

Player |
So...seen anything interesting? |
|
Green |
Nope. |
0011809b |
The player could attempt to talk to him about the security upgrade:
Sample |
Filename |

Player |
I need to talk to you about your radio. |
|
Green |
Yeah? |
00116bb0 |
Player |
I'm here to update the radio's security system. |
|
Green |
Fascinating. |
00118086 |
The player could either request the password or ask him to run the update for them:
Sample |
Filename |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Here, I have the upgrade on me - take it and run it on the computer for me. |
|
Green |
Hmm...no. |
0011809d |
Player |
I'll need the password to the terminal. |
|
Green |
Neat. |
00118071 |
Green would only give the player one word responses, from here the player could attempt to reason with him:
Sample |
Filename |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
You're really starting to piss me off. |
|
Green |
Yup. |
0011809e |
Player |
Oh, I get it. This is funny for you for you, isn't it? |
|
Green |
Hilarious, actually. |
0011808b |
Player |
You are quite possibly the least helpful I've ever met. |
|
Green |
Correct. |
0011809f |
The player would need to respond in like to obtain the password:
Sample |
Filename |
Form ID |

Player |
Yup. |

Green |
Mmm...hmm. |
00118097 |
Player |
Indeed. |

Green |
Yeah. |
00118086 |
Player |
Great. |
|
Green |
Fine. |
00118073 |
Player |
Okay then. |
|
Green |
Sure. |
00118094 |
Player |
You bet. |
|
Green |
You know what kid? I kind of like you. You said you needed the password, right? Here it is. |
00118078 |
Once they had obtained the password, the player could choose from the following three responses:
Sample |
Filename |

Player |
Thanks. |

Green |
Mmm...hmm. |
00118081 |
Player |
I knew I could win you over eventually. |
|
Green |
Ugh, just get lost. |
00118070 |
Player |
Finally. Now I can kill you. |
|
Green |
Your funeral. |

Green |
Nope. |
00118096 |
Player |
Are you capable of saying more than one word? |
|
Green |
Sometimes. |
0011807f |
Threats would be ineffective also:
Sample |
Filename |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Give me the password or I will kill you. |
|
Green |
Nope. |
0011808d |
Player |
Seriously, I'm going to kill you. |
|
Green |
I doubt it. |
00118074 |
Player |
Three whole words. I'm impressed. |
|
Green |
Great. |
0011807d |
Player |
I give up. |
|
Green |
Bye. |
00118078 |
The player could also just kill him:
Sample |
Filename |
Form ID |
|---|---|---|
Player |
That's it. Draw your gun, maggot. |
|
Green |
Ok. |
00118092 |
If the player attempted to bribe Green, he would just give them a fake password:
Sample |

I'm here to deliver a security update to deter eavesdroppers. |
|
Lenk |
I don't recall hearing about any update to our security. Who sent you? |
0011B048 |
Player |
Sgt. Reyes sent me. |
|
Lenk |
Yeah, and what did the drunken desk jockey want? |

From here, two responses were available to the player:

Drunken desk jockey? You've got a lot of nerve. |
|
Lenk |
Well, aren't you a feisty little turd? I don't visit you in your fortified bunker and bother you with nonsense; now do I? |
00126F4C |
The conversation proceeds the same regardless of which option was chosen - the second option simply loops back to the dialogue menu where the player would have to pick the first anyway. From here, three responses were available to the player:

I'll run this program for you. But in return, you need to be on your way. I'm not supposed to let non military personnel walk around this place. |
00127AF2 |

Sure, here's 100 caps. |
|
Lenk |
Okay pal, I'll run the update. Now, why don't you mosey on out of here? |
00127AD8 |

<Barter 20> Make it 20 and you have a deal. |
|
Lenk |
Sure, I'll do it ok? I'll run the update. But you need to get out of here. This place is off limits and I don't want to hurt you. |
00127AFF |
Player |
<Barter under 20> Hey, that's not fair! I only have 200, I mean... 20 caps. |
|
Lenk |
You really don't know how to haggle, do you? 100 caps and I'll do it, take it or leave it. |

0011B04A |
Lenk |
Tell Reyes to either get a Ranger to run here errands, or do the footwork herself. |
0011B04A |

Just a steady trickle of Legion scouts wandering these areas. Heard of The Fort? I'd steer clear of it if I were you. |
0011E4F8 |

Sgt. Reyes sent me - she's curious about the high casualties at this station. |

0011eb30 |

|
Ericsen |
Strange. I've been firing hundreds of rounds a day on target practice. We're awash in surplus ammunition. |
0011eb31 |
Ericsen |
Her records must be a mess. We've been getting constant shipments of munition, like we're stocking up for the fourth world war. |
0011eb31 |

Ranger Erasmus#

Some general dialogue for the character:

Sgt. Reyes is concerned about sighting reports from Echo station. |
|
Erasmus |
Sounds interesting. I'm absolutely riveted by what you're saying. Please, go on. |
0011fe71 |
Player |
The NCR militia is only able to catch a small number of the hostiles reported. |
|
Erasmus |
Sorry, what was that? I was too busy imagining an alternate universe where siblings aren't allowed to reproduce, and you were never born. |
0011fe77 |
Player |
Why the attitude? |
|
Erasmus |
Attitude? Your the one interrupting my patrol. Why are you even here? Lost? Need directions back to your mommy? |
0011fe6e |
Player |
Never mind. Bye. |
|
Erasmus |
Leaving so soon? And I was just getting acclimated to your scent. |
0011fe73 |
If the player opted to insult him instead, he would become more open to speaking with the player:

0011FE69 |
Player |
You have a teddy bear in your tent? Are you a pedophille? |
|
Erasmus |
Did the smoothskin just offer a comeback? And here I thought you were slightly dumber than a bag of rocks. |
0011fe70 |
Player |
Thanks. It's hard to be witty when you're talking to a walking coldsore. |
|
Erasmus |
Hmm...haven't heard that one before. |
0011fe78 |

Player |
I just wanted to see the world's ugliest face. |

Either of the above branches would open up the dialogue branch needed to proceed with the quest:
Sample |
Filename |

I'm investigating after action reports for Sgt. Reyes. |
|
Erasmus |
Reyes, eh? Can't wait till she gets old and wrinkly enough to lower her standards, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. |
0011fe76 |
Erasmus |
So anyway, Sergeant party girl has a problem with my reports? What's the issue? |
0011fe76 |
Player |
Echo station are reporting a high number of hostiles. Few are being intercepted. |
|
Erasmus |
That's news to me. We get Legion types and raiders now and then, but enemy sightings have been tapering off. |
0011fe6c |
Player |
Reyes thinks someone might be listening in and staying ahead of the NCR. |
|
Erasmus |
Could be. I see alot of NCR squads wandering the desert, armed for a fight. And then I see them going back to camp looking frustrated. |
0011fe6a |
Erasmus |
The NCR relies on the Rangers to radio troop positions, and eavesdropping would be a serious problem. |
0011fe6a |
Player |
So the NCR has the wrong number of sighting reports? |
|
Erasmus |
That's got to be the case. I can tell you for certain that we have had a steep decline in hostile activity in this area. |
0011fe75 |
Erasmus |
There's another possibility. If someone were impersonating ranger broadcasts and sending the NCR on wild Brahmin chases, that would explain a lot. |
0011fe75 |
Erasmus |
That would explain command thinking there's a high incident rate, and it would explain why I see so many patrols wandering around looking clueless. |
0011fe75 |
After ending the conversation, he would give the player his logbook as proof:
Sample |
Filename |

Player |
I have to go. |
|
Erasmus |
OK, well, take this. It's just of all the sightings me and the Echo boys made over the past few weeks. |
0011fe68 |
Erasmus |
I bet you anything NCR command has its' wires crossed, and our reports are getting double or triple reported. |
0011fe68 |
Erasmus |
The only other explanation is that someone is pretending to be a Ranger, and sending false sighting reports over the radio. So, here you go. Good luck. |
0011fe68 |
Player |
That's all I need to know. |
|
Erasmus |
Here, bring my logbook back to Reyes. She can look at the sighting records I have. Maybe she'll see the issue is just a bit of bad math. |
0011FE6B |
Erasmus |
And tell her that I'd offer her free moustache rights if I had a moustache. Okay, take it easy kid. |
0011FE6B |
A generic topic to ask him some questions. The response received depends on the state of the variable "ErasmusOk", this needs to be set to 1 in order to receive the positive response. Conditions like this are normally updated by picking the correct dialogue responses in conversations, it is the dialogue script itself that handles updating conditions. It is possible the above branches that lead to the player insulting Erasmus would've updated this condition; but as dialogue scripts have not been recovered from this build it is hard to know for certain:

So, unless you have some brilliant technical expertise to lend my way, this conversation will have to wait. |
00120DC1 |
Player |
I could help you fix your radio problem. |
