Unused Audio

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of Proto:Fallout: New Vegas/April 17, 2010.

A large amount of unused dialogue was recovered from this build, reflecting elements altered when compared to the final or removed entirely. With the use of the Fallout-Xbox-360-utils program on Github, it is possible to locate form IDs for unused player lines. These form IDs correspond to the IDs contained within the filenames for dialogue lines recovered from this build, allowing them to be matched. Please note that all dialogue here is text to speech unless otherwise stated.

Alexander

Alexander has multiple unused lines referring to him being able to buy Vance's 9mm Submachinegun from the player. More information on this cut task can be found on the main page for the April 17th build.

Here the player can ask about placing special orders, which leads into the task:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Can I place a special order?

Alexander

I do take special orders - sometimes. But they're real special - as in "special expensive" and for "special people" only.

000E88F0

Alexander

But I'll tell you what. I'm always interested in rare and unusual weapons. Find something that fits the bill, and you might start looking "special."

000E88F0

Player

Can I place a special order?

Alexander

That depends. You got anything special to show me?

000E88F1

Player

No, I guess not.

Alexander

Then I guess you're not special enough right now, hmm?

00E8912

Vance's 9mm Submachinegun would suffice for this task:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

How about this machine gun from the Vikki and Vance casino?

Alexander

Let me take a look at you... sure enough. That's special enough. The firearms of infamous outlaws always command a fair price.

00E88f7

Alexander

I'll give you 250 caps, how's that sound?

00E88f7

Player

250 caps it is.

Alexander

Alright, here's your money.

00E890a

Player

I think I'll hang onto it for now.

Alexander

No one likes a thief, kid. If you want special orders, I'm gonna need to see something special first.

00E88e7

The player could also attempt a barter check of 35 to negotiate more caps in exchange for the weapon:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

For the personal firearm of an infamous outlaw? 450 caps sounds more like it...

Alexander

Yeah, yeah, yeah... save me the sales job. 450 caps it is.

00E8904

Player

250 caps is a lot of money! Wait! I mean it's *not* a lot of money!

Alexander

It's plenty of money for someone with your sales skills, kid. Take it or leave it.

Harcourt

Better to be careful around me, wouldn't want my luck to rub off on you.

001028bb

Player

Harcourt

Careful, I'm still lucky.

001028bc

Player

I take it you're some kind of jinx?

Harcourt

You got it, Lucky Harcourt, that's what they call me behind my back. You know, I use up all your luck and then you're dead.

001028ac

Player

I think a man would be very lucky indeed to catch you.

Harcourt

Ha, I know better than to fall for smooth talkers like you. But, you can call me Nina.

00103a2c

Player

I win more than my fair share of coin tosses. How is that a bad thing?

Harcourt

Some of the other soldiers think I'm a jinx. I use up everyone else's luck when they're around me lucky Harcourt. That's what they call me.

001028ba

Player

I'm sure the casinos of New Vegas love you.

Harcourt

I'm actually not much of a gambler, I'd love to visit the Ultra-Luxe one of these days, though.

001028ad

Player

Right. Biggs mentioned you.

Harcourt

Oh, I love Biggs. He's always telling me he wishes I'd catch a bullet between the eyes when we go on patrol. Such a sweetheart.

001028b0

Harcourt

He's the one who originally started calling me Lucky Harcourt, you know. He didn't mean it as a compliment.

001028b0

Player

That has to bother you, right?

Harcourt

I'm not some superstitious tribal, unlike some of the others, I just do what they taught me in basic, stay sharp and learn to duck.

001028bf

Harcourt

Anyway, the Lieutenant's gonna be on my ass if he sees me jawing with you. See you around.

001028bf

Player

Uh, what?

Harcourt

Sorry, it's sort of an unfunny private joke around here. The short version is I'm lucky, but everyone around me isn't, like a jinx.

001028b8

Harcourt

Some of the other soldiers think I'm a jinx. I use up all others luck when they're around me. Lucky Harcourt, that's what they call me.

001028b8

Player

Why do the other soldiers think you're a jinx?

Harcourt

Because the last two squads I was a part of were both wiped out. Except for me, of course. I didn't get a scratch on me either time.

001028b4

Harcourt

The next thing I know, I'm some kind of walking curse. Oh no, Harcourts here. We're all going to die.

001028b4

Player

You put on a brave face, but I can tell that it bothers you, just a bit.

Harcourt

I think about it all the time, the band of Nightstalkers? (Cannot make out what is being said) just couldn't get a bead on me. I was fighting hard, but so was everyone else.

001028ab

Harcourt

And that Fiend grenade, right in the middle of the patrol. No time to shout a warning, and nobody got out except me.

001028ab

Harcourt

I don't know what to make of it, destiny? Higher power? Who knows? Anyway, I should get back to my duty. Can't have the Lt. mad at me.

001028ab

001028be

Player

Goodbye.

Biggs

Yeah, goodbye to all of us...

001028b6

Player

Have you talked to your superior officer?

Biggs

The Lieutenant told me to shut it and get soldiering. He's not gonna do anything until it's too late for the rest of us.

001028b3

Player

I could take care of Harcourt. What are you offering?

Biggs

I'll collect the pay from the rest of the guys, maybe throw in some contraband too.

001028b5

Player

I think you're overreacting.

Biggs

I'm not. After Harcourt arrived, the generator stopped working. Last patrol, Corporal Sam stepped right into a bark scorpion nest.

001028b1

Biggs

And me? I lost my rifle cleaning kit. That's never happened before.

001028b1

Player

Is that going to happen soon? I'd like to be around to loot your corpses.

Biggs

Oh fuck you. You'll be dead with the rest of us if you stick around.

001028b9

Player

Never mind.

Biggs

We never talked about this, got it?

001028aa

Player

Or she's just lucky.

Biggs

Yeah, right. A sole survivor twice, and not a scratch on her? No, she's a jinx. She uses up the luck of everyone around her, and she's got to go.

001028af

Player

What are you going to do about Harcourt?

Biggs

Me? There's nothing I can do to her, that won't take me down with her.

001028b7

Player

What are you talking about?

Biggs

We've got a jinx, Harcourt. She's been transferred twice now because her previous squads all got killed. See the pattern?

Boulder City Showdown

Lieutenant Monroe#

Lieutenant Monroe has additional dialogue present within the files that reflects an early version of the Boulder City Showdown quest.

Here Monroe would introduce the early version of the quest, back when the player needed to scout for the location of the hostages first. There is also some cut dialogue that references the early version of the quest They Went That-A Way, back when the circumstances of Benny's betrayal were slightly different:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Do you know what the Great Khans want?

Monroe

They claim they just want us to step aside so they can get out of NCR territory.

0010D9F0

Monroe

They also said that it was someone named Benny, I think, that started shooting at my troops in the first place.

0010D9F0

Monroe

I think that the Great Khans had a falling out. There's a house in the south part of the city, where there's a bunch of dead ones.

0010D9F0

Player

I could sneak in there and try to get your people out.

Monroe

Considering that the hostages are dead as soon as we attack, I'm willing to give you a chance.

00116FE7

Monroe

Find out where they are keeping my missing troops. Once you've made your report, I can get my snipers into position.

00116FE7

Monroe

With any luck the guards will be taken out when we attack. I don't want any heroics, just find out where my troopers are and get out of there.

00116FE7

The player could pass a speech check of 45 here as well:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

<Sneak Option - 45>

Monroe

That would be useful. As it is now, the hostages don't stand a chance if we assault the Khans now.

00110FD5

Monroe

If you can find out where they're being kept, my snipers might be able to take down any Khans guarding them when we attack.

00110FD5

Monroe

I don't want any heroics, just find out where my troopers are and get out of there.

00110FD5

Player

<Sneak Option - 45>

Monroe

An interesting idea, but no thanks. The Great Khans would definitely know we were up to something.

00116BBC

Here he reacts to the player's success:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Yes. If you've got a map, I can show you which building it is.

Monroe

Perfect. I can have snipers take out the Khans guarding them. When we attack, that should buy us time to rescue them.

0010D50B

Monroe

I'm ordering the assault immediately since I don't want to give the Khans a chance to move the hostages to another hiding place.

0010D50B

Monroe

You're welcome to help us out. I do understand if you'd prefer to lay low until this is over.

0010D50B

Player

-

Monroe

Good. Hopefully my marksman can take the guards out when we assault.

00111519

In the final game, the player can bribe Lt. Monroe to look the other while the Khans slip out. In this version of the quest, Sgt. Hastings is the subject of the bribe instead. Here he reacts to the Khan's disappearance:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Monroe

We're packing up and moving out. Somehow, the Great Khans managed to slip out of the ruins undetected.

001176DB

Player

Any idea what happened?

Monroe

None. There must have been a gap in the rubble that we missed, or maybe they tunnelled out. It's still going to be my ass.

00118F26

Monroe

I appreciate you trying to help out, though. None of this was your fault.

00118F26

Player

Goodbye.

Monroe

I'm not looking forward to explaining this to McCarran.

00118F29

In the final game, the hostages are tied up together - freeing one will automatically free the other. In this version they seem to have been tied up separately initially, and Monroe has dialogue to account for this:

Sample

Filename

Dialogue

Player

Monroe

I see that one of the hostages managed to escape thanks to you. Is there any chance you can get the other one out?

0011151A

Player

Private Ackerman is alright, but Private Gilbert didn't make it.

Monroe

Damn, I'd planned on recommending Gilbert for Corporal.

00115CB0

Player

Private Gilbert is alright, but Private Ackerman didn't make it.

Monroe

Ackerman was a good kid. A little headstrong, but a fine trooper all the time.

00115CB0

Monroe

Thanks for your help. Chances were high that we'd have lost both troopers if you hadn't come along.

00115CB2

In the final freeing the hostages will automatically trigger the NCR assault. In this version the player would need to report back to Monroe before it would begin:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Monroe

Both hostages escaped thanks to you. That was a big gamble you took, but it looks like it paid off.

0011151

Monroe

Now that the Khans no longer have any leverage I'll be able to order a full assault to take out any Great Khans still hiding in the ruins.

0011151B

Monroe

You're welcome to help us out. I do understand if you'd prefer to lay low until this is over.

0011151B

Private Hastings#

This NPC has dialogue present alluding to a cut outcome for the Boulder City Showdown quest. Additional greeting lines for Hastings post quest have also been recovered from the build dated February the 16th.

Some generic lines for Hastings:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Hastings

This is bullshit. We are supposed to be on leave, not shooting it out with Great Khans.

0010F6F6

Player

Hastings

No one goes past the checkpoint without the Lieutenant's authorisation. Any further, and we'll shoot you.

00113C04

Player

You can't tell me what to do.

Hastings

My rifle says otherwise. Besides, those are Lieutenant Monroe's orders. You want to get in, you take it up with him.

00113BFF

Here Hastings introduces the situation:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

What's past the checkpoint?

Hastings

We got some Great Khans hiding out further in. Talk to Lieutenant Monroe if you want the whole story.

00113C02

Player

What's past the checkpoint?

Hastings

You can find the Lieutenant on the west side of town, near the Big Horn Saloon.

00113C03

The player could follow up with some generic questions about the situation:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Does this sort of thing happen a lot in the NCR's military?

Hastings

Getting screwed all the time. When they say you'll be at a post for a week, they really mean a month. Possibly two.

0010F6F2

Player

What do you know about the Great Khans?

Hastings

Nothing. The officer said they're bad guys. So here we are.

0011776C

Player

Why did you join up in the first place?

Hastings

I'm supposed to be patrolling the roads back in California. Easy, safe and boring. Instead, I got dragged back here to the front lines.

0011776B

The player could also suggest a bribe:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

How much would it take for you to ignore the Great Khan's escape through here?

Hastings

What an interesting idea. If my buddies and I were distracted counting, say, 500 caps, I'm sure we'd miss a lot of things.

0011205E

Player

I don't have that many caps.

Hastings

Too bad. No caps, no deal.

0010F6EF

The player could also attempt a barter check to reduce the bribe:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Hastings

Sounds more than fair. 400 caps, pay up.

0011205B

Player

<Barter not 45> 500 is way too much. I was thinking 400.

Hastings

Well think your way back up to 500, because that's what I want.

00116BBB

The player could then pay the reduced or original total:

001197BD

Speaker

He betrayed you?

Jessup

We got tired of waiting to get paid, so we confiscated the chip, while Benny headed over to the Strip to get the money.

We were sloppy, Benny came back that night and started taking us all out in our sleep, one by one.

00116FDB

Jessup

The only reason we survived was because McMurphy woke up as Benny shot him. Then that NCR patrol showed up, and here we are.

Pretty Sarah#

Multiple unused lines of dialogue exist for the character Pretty Sarah, involving the quest "The Coyotes" and generic services. The dialogue is for buying Med-X from Pretty Sarah:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

I'm looking to score some Med-X. Can you help?

Pretty Sarah

I know a fellow chronic pain sufferer when I see one. How many doses you need?

000F9F09

Player

I'm looking to score some Med-X. Can you help?

Pretty Sarah

How many Doses do you need?

000FA148

This dialogue is specific to the Coyotes. This seems to be related to the route of the quest where the player presents evidence of the duo's elicit dealings to Pretty Sarah in order to have her turn on St. James and Dermot. In the final, the player needs only to show her the ledger. Here the player had the option to show her St. James' teddy bear as well, though it doesn't seem to lead to anything:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

I found this in Saint James' room. <Show her the teddy bear.>

Pretty Sarah

I know all about the teddy bear, unfortunately. Just ask Sweetie. Did you have a point?

000FD113

Player

I'm pretty sure this bear belonged to a girl who disappeared.

Pretty Sarah

Pretty sure, as in not really sure. It wouldn't surprise me to find out Saint James and Dermot were doing wrong.

000FD115

Pretty Sarah

I get a bad feeling from them, but I'd need some kind of proof before I do anything, and teddy bears don't count.

000FD115

Player

Forget it.

Pretty Sarah

Alright, but maybe you should put the bear back where you found it before I remember.

000FD114

In the final the player has the option to ask Pretty Sarah about the services offered at the Casa Madrid. This dialogue existed at one point for the player to refuse the services after asking:

Flags of Our Foul-Ups

Mags#

Mags has a sizeable number of unused voice lines that allude to the early version of the quest. By the time of this build, however, it seems the early version of this quest was abandoned and was actively being changed to the final version; for this reason many voice lines related to the early scenario have already been removed. Fortunately, some of these missing voice lines have been preserved in memory dumps from earlier builds of the game, and these dialogue responses can be used to understand how the early version of the quest would have proceeded.

This is the dialogue used to start Mags' route of the quest, the responses are from a January the 4th build:

001058FB

O'Hanrahan#

Dialogue exists in this build for a speech check with O'Hanrahan. In the final, O'Hanrahan's route involves passing speech checks with the other Misfits in order to convince them to work together. As O'Hanarahan assigns this task to the player, he himself does not have a speech check. At this point in development, O'Hanrahan did not have his own route; and the task to convince the Misfits to work together was assigned by Mags instead:

Poindexter#

A dialogue exchange where Poindexter refers to a cache at Camp Golf placed in case of an emergency. This would've followed the first line included below, but a response to that line has not been recovered, meaning it's not known what would've prompted Poindexter to share this information with the player:

Poindexter

In case of a surprise attack, the commander buried a huge cache of weapons. Power armor, explosives, you name it go look around, you'll find it.

00104F40

This is the dialogue that would've originally been used to start his route of the quest. Interestingly, his dialogue is identical to the final game; the developers simply altered the player lines to mask the original context of the quest:

Speaker

Player

Sgt. McCredie is sending your squad on a suicide mission if you don't shape up.

Poindexter

That seems highly illogical. What reason would he have for doing that?

001058FC

Player

He thinks it will get you to act like soldiers.

Poindexter

This is an unexpected variable. Damn, I should have planned for this.

001058FE

Mags' route of the quest could be discussed with Poindexter as well:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

I can drill your squad on proper small-unit tactics and survival.

Poindexter

I see, I would suggest you talk to Mags about that. She's the most soldierly out of all of us.

Player

I meant actually help you learn to throw grenades.

Poindexter

Oh, I see. As inefficient as that sounds, you should perhaps talk to mags about that.

00107756

Further dialogue to discuss legitimate improvements with Poindexter. A response for this has not been recovered, only a player line:

Speaker

Player

Based on your performance, McCredie's cancelled the mission.

The original dialogue to assign his task to the player. This version of the dialogue mentions only one terminal; it seems the other was for the cut stage of the quest to delete the squad's mission orders entirely:

It occurs to me that I might cheat.

Poindexter

Hmm... an intriguing proposition. Company readiness reports are logged on the computer systems at the Resort.

001058F2

Poindexter

If you can hack into the system, you might be able to alter our records. Cleverly done!

001058F2

Player

I can help with that, too.

Poindexter

Ideal. The computer system containing the evaluation records is in a back office, at the resort. If you hack in, you can alter the scores.

0010774B

Player

I'm on it.

Poindexter

Excellent. I look forward to hearing of your success.

0010774E

This dialogue is for introducing the unused stage of the quest where the player deletes the mission orders:

Speaker

Form ID

Player

I'll do it. How hard can it be?

Poindexter

Possibly harder than you think. This is a separate system from the evaluation scoring system, and it's much more heavily secured.

00107749

Player

Guess I won't get caught, then.

Poindexter

That would be advisable.

00107762

Player

Too risky for me - you're on your own.

Poindexter

I should have suspected you'd cut and run from the difficult tasks. Very well, on the very slim chance we survive, I will speak to you later.

Maybe you should rethink that patrol. It'd be a shame to waste that potential.

I don't think so it's not anywhere near enough improvement, no, they're going out, and they're coming back soldiers. Or not at all.

0010774D

Player

So, they're not getting sent off on a sure to be suicidal patrol, then?

This NPC has a subset of the exact same dialogue in the April build as found in the July build, only in TTS format. However, there is one line in this version that is missing in the July files. Jane & Marilyn

In the final game Jane notably has no goodbye dialogue, only a telltale "..." line which JE Sawyer long ago revealed was usually a workaround due to no voice lines being recorded. Boyd

A lot of soldiers go out on patrol, and never come back. They think we'll assume they got ambushed by raiders.

Half of the time that actually ends up happening, one of the few natural curves we have on desertion.

Lieutenant Hayes#

Some unused dialogue for Lt. Hayes, here he makes references to cut functionality from the quest "My Kind Of Town". He also provides additional background information on the NCR in general. Also worth noting is that Hayes is more gruff and impatient in this build, compared to his comparatively calm demeanour in the final.

General dialogue for Hayes, the line "At last count, we had over 700,000 productive, literate citizens." is unusual as this was the count given in Fallout 2, set 40 years prior.

Silus

Multiple lines of dialogue for Silus which reference Caesar ordering him to kill members of the Followers of the Apocalypse. Some unused dialogue for Crandon. These lines show that the first phase of the quest was originally slightly different in terms of scenario. Lieutenant Romanowski#

Some unused lines of dialogue for Lieutenant Romanowski referencing the early scenario for The White Wash quest. Notably, he directly references the cut NPC Wrench. Worth noting is that there is an unused part of the quest referenced in the November build that involves investigating the East Pump Station. This dialogue is for questioning Romanowski about the situation:

000F0860

00135EF

Wrench#

An NPC from the quest VMS10 that would become 'The White Wash' in the final game. There are remnants of this very early iteration even in the final data, but this build contains the full dialogue of the cut NPC Wrench, an alcoholic mechanic who would have spilled the beans on what was really going on with the water supply in this quest before he was replaced. It seems he never got beyond having temporary text-to-speech dialogue, and the lines here seem to have been re-written multiple times already. Many of the below lines are duplicated in the archive, so only the first instance of each particular line is documented. Notably Wrench was a ghoul character, something he even mentions in his dialogue. As already known, the pawn shop vendor Miguel was called Angelo at this point in time, and Westside was called 'The Doldrums'. The below dialogue confirms Corporal White was called by his final name at this point, and seems to be the only NPC involved with the quest who wasn't renamed. An NPC entry for Wrench as well as more information on the early version of the quest are present in the November build.

Hey, sure. Pipes, guns, delicate electronics, it's all pretty much the same, right?

Player

I need something repaired.

Wrench

Fine.

Player

Goodbye.

Wrench

Yep.

The player could then ask Wrench what he knows about the water shortage, which would prompt him to ask the player for a favour:

I was told you might know something about a water shortage.

Wrench

Mmm, heard something about that. Maybe know something about that if you did me a favour first.

Player

I'm looking for Corporal White. I was told he came to see you.

Wrench

Haven't seen him lately. I might know where he is though. Need a favour first.

Player

What favour?

Wrench

I pawned off my Snap-off super toolkit to buy more booze. I think I was drunk when I did it.

Player

What's the favour?

Wrench

I pawned off my Snap-off super toolkit to buy more whiskey. I think I was drunk when I did it. The irony.

Player

-

Wrench

Anyway, I can't do proper work without it. Get it back from Angelo and I'll tell you what I know. His pawn shop is up in the Doldrums.

The player could agree to the favour for Wrench. The dialogue here shows that the Super Tool Kit was an incidental item which could be found outside of Angelo's pawn shop as well:

Player

I'll get you a Super Tool Kit, even if it's not that exact one.

Wrench

As long as it's a complete kit, I'm one happy ghoul.

Player

I'll get you a Super Tool Kit.

Wrench

I'm glad to hear it.

Instead of doing a favour for Wrench, the player could instead pass a speech check of 40 to get the information from Wrench:

Player

I'm on official NCR business. Your help would be appreciated.

Wrench

Potential pay raise, huh? I have been thinking about buying another Mr. Handy. Alright then, about White.

Player

I'm working for the NCR, you know, so you'd better tell me what you know.

Wrench

The NCR needs me more than I need them. Nobody knows the pipe system better than me. So, ready to do that favour?

If the player did not have a high enough speech skill, they could instead attempt to intimidate Wrench. There are two checks present, one is a skill check while the other checks for one of the player's SPECIAL stats instead. The stat in question is presumably strength:

Tell me what I need to know or else.

Wrench

Say, I don't think you've got it in you. So, about that toolkit of mine…

Player

Would you like me to bury you out in the desert for the next hundred years?

Wrench

Hmmm, a while back I happened to notice one of the Western pipes leaking.

Player

[Crack your knuckles ominously.]

Wrench

Alright bruiser. Forget doing me a favour.

This dialogue is for turning in the Super Tool Kit to Wrench:

I don't have one yet.

Wrench

I'm not in a rush if you're not.

Player

I got one for you. Here.

Wrench

Ah, much appreciated. These are a little hard to come by. So, about White…

Player

I happen to have one of those on me. Want it?

Wrench

Good enough for me. So, about White…

After returning his Super Tool Kit or passing a skill check, Wrench would discuss the matter with the player:

Player

Actually, I already have a Super Tool Kit with me.

Wrench

Ah, thank you kindly. These are hard to come by. Not sure what I was thinking, but anyway...

Wrench

Water's flowing into the West side of town - NCR water. The problem with that is it's not supposed to be happening at all. The West side's cut off.

Wrench

White came to me, asking if I had noticed anything going on with the water pipes. After a generous payment of whiskey, I told him what I knew.

Player

So, there is a water shortage after all. How is that possible?

Wrench

I think that's what White was trying to find out. Since I couldn't tell him the who or the how of it, he decided to go with a stakeout.

Wrench

Unless all that water is just spilling into the ground somewhere - and I don't think it is - someone's collecting it.

Wrench

I think White was planning to keep an eye on the cisterns on the West side of town, and see who showed up. Guess it was more than he could handle.

Player

I don't care about the water. Where can I find White?

Wrench

White said he was going to keep an eye on the cisterns over on the West side of town. Someone's gotta collect the water, after all.

Wrench

Since White's gone missing he probably caught someone in the act of taking the water, and it turned out to be too much for him to handle.

Player

Someone could've hacked into the pump station computer systems.

Wrench

I hadn't thought of that. You might be right. It's the only way this could even be going on without the NCR catching on.

Wrench

Unless all that water is simply spilling into the ground - and I doubt it - somebody's got to be collecting it.

Wrench

White's plan was to catch and interrogate whoever was collecting the water from the cisterns on the West side.

There are two additional unused lines here, as well. Originally, Chet would direct the player towards Novac, as opposed to Primm. These lines account for that early scenario:

So where were they headed?

Trudy

He might have some idea of how you can catch up.

0010B3D4

Trudy

You should go next door and ask Chet about that road, it's a big supply route.

0010B3D4

Chet#

Some unused dialogue for Chet, for an early version of the main quest which involved taking a different route to Novac:

Trudy said they might be taking Highway 93.

Chet

They might if they're going back to the city, safest route in that direction.

0010b3d5

Chet

You want to get the drop on them? I'd say your best bet: Novac.

0010b3d5

Chet

Old roadside motel, kind of a watering hole for passing merchants. They'd be likely to stop there. It's got food and it's protected.

0010b3d5

Chet

You'll know it when you see it, just look for the dinosaur.

Small time? I was in the Khans, man. It doesn't get any better.

Bunch of them are just staying in my place cuz it's on the way to Boulder City, you go up there and ask Benny if you don't believe me.

000cedf1

Manny

Can't say I'd recommend it, though, He'd kill you right there for not respecting my word. That guy's got no conscience.

000cedf1

Manny

Can't talk about it. They'd cut out my tongue, and I'm not even in the gang anymore. Shit, they were just here...what if they come back?
