Alexus
While Alexus is still silent in game, 14 voiced lines of dialogue exist for him within the files for this build. These are his greeting lines:
This dialogue is related to the quest Anywhere I Wander, though it serves as background information only and does not affect the outcome of the quest; this is because Alexus cannot be negotiated with:

Player |
I just wandered in here. |
|
Alexus |
Dangerous place to be wandering. I must have a chat with my men about letting you in this far. |
|
Alexus |
But unless you have something worthy to discuss, take your leave... before I decide to throw you down the mineshaft for intruding. |
|
Player |
I'm here about the hostages. |
|
Alexus |
Those vermin are Legion property. When they are of no further use they will join their friends at the bottom of the pit. |
|
Player |
I want one of their heads. |
|
Alexus |
With thoughts like that you would do well in the Legion. |
|
Alexus |
But on Caesar's orders, their fate belongs to the pit. No one dares to challenge his decision. |
|
Player |
Can you let them go? |
|
Alexus |
I hold the key to their release, but only Caesar can make that decision. Neither of us are worthy to speak for him. |
|
Player |
Can you let them go? |
|
Alexus |
Their lives mean nothing, but their imprisonment was Caesar's final order to me. I will follow it until the end. |
|
Player |
I'll be going now. |
|
Alexus |
Then move quickly. |

Atomic Wrangler Escorts
The dialogue for the venue's original generic escorts still exists in this build. It seems there would be some system where the player's "performance" would be rated by randomly checking one of their SPECIAL stats (as noted below), and if they were above or below a certain threshold a corresponding good or bad dialogue line would be chosen. None of the escorts (including the final game ones Fisto, Santiago, etc) have scripts to actually implement their sequences in the game, so it seems this part of the game simply hadn't been started yet. VFSAtomicWranglerEscort would use the lines for MaleAdult09, VFSAtomicWranglerEscort3 would use those of FemaleAdult05, and therefore the missing VFSAtomicWranglerEscort2 would use FemaleAdult08.

The escorts also have further dialogue, in three main topic trees. However something had gone very wrong in their implementation. Despite a tree being created for each character, halfway through the later lines for each character were merged into the topic tree for the first (male) escort only. This seems to be a wider mistake which ultimately explains why the characters were cut from the game - some dialogue was not recorded at all, but more pertinently, much was wrongly recorded as alternate takes for the male escort, and never recorded by the intended actresses. The end result is that the female characters in the prototype sometimes respond with male voices, and other times have no voiced file at all in their basic negotiation dialogue. As with Marlilyn, this mistake at the recording stage is almost certainly why they were cut entirely.

Betsy The Brahmin
Kevin Hargrove#
There are what seem to be the entire set of dialogue lines present for this NPC which link into the cut Betsy companion quest.
While these are not used in the July prototype, examinations of the crash dumps from older builds also reveal the original topic names, and that at some point the character was listed simply as "Brahmin Seller":

Worth knowing is that the builds currently available do not cover the development period between April 21st 2010 and July 21st 2010. Some of these lines were implemented before April 21st 2010, meaning that player prompts for those lines have been recovered. The remainder of the lines however were implemented and removed between this gap, meaning there is no access to builds that existed during that time. This is the reason some of the lines below do not have matching player prompts; they exist only as stray audio clips in this build's BSA files, with all trace of them already having been removed from the ESM (master file) along with their player lines.
To start this quest, the player would approach Kevin Hargrove at his makeshift Brahmin pen just outside of Freeside's North Gate, where he would attempt to entice the player into purchasing Betsy:

Dialogue |

|---|---|---|
Kevin |
My friend, do I have a deal for you. I have only recently come into possession of this fine pack brahmin, but alas, I cannot keep her. |
|
Kevin |
As you can plainly see, my Betsy is as fine a specimen as you are likely to see in the whole of the wasteland, and will never fail you. |
|
Kevin |
And she can be yours for the low, low price of 500 caps. |
|
After which the player could express interest, or refuse:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
What would I do with a brahmin? |
|
Kevin |
A fair question. Brahmin are useful for any number of reasons. Their meat, skin, milk, horns - and other parts that will go unnamed - are all valued. |
|
Kevin |
But a brahmin's greatest use is for labour. They are strong hearty animals and can carry or drag heavy weights long distances. |
|
Player |
I'd like to buy her, but I don't have enough money. |
|
Kevin |
That is alright my friend. Just stop back when you have the caps, and we'll do business. |
|
Player |
I don't really need a Brahmin. |
|
Kevin |
I would beg to disagree, but you seem to have made up your mind and I will not try to change it. Good day. |
|
The player could haggle instead as evidenced by these lines:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Kevin |
Ahh, but many feel as you do my friend, and I could not let my dear Betsy go for anything less than the asking price. |
|
Kevin |
While you only have my word that my Betsy is truly the picture of bovine health, I understand your concern and will agree to your price. |
|
There are two additional greeting lines for this sequence too:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Kevin |
My friend, have you returned to give my dear Betsy a good home? She's a steal at only 500 caps. |
|
Kevin |
My friend, have you returned in the hopes of purchasing the queen of all brahmin? I'll hold to the deal we negotiated before. |
|
If the player's party was full, Kevin explains why he cannot sell her to player:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Sure, I'll buy her. |
|
Kevin |
And I would love to sell her to you. But I am afraid my Betsy is nervous around too many people. |
|
Kevin |
Should you ever find yourself travelling alone, and in need of a brahmin, please keep my humble Betsy in mind. |
|
If the player had enough room in their party, they would need to adhere to the following terms before she would accompany them:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Sure, I'll buy her. |
|
Kevin |
Wonderful. First however I must ask you a small favour before I can truly sell her to you. |
|
Kevin |
You must promise me that you will only use her as a pack brahmin and not butcher her or sell her to someone who would do the same. |
|
Kevin |
My Betsy was meant to live a long life, preferably on the open road, and I would like to find such a home for her. |
|
They could either accept or refuse:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Fine, I promise to only use her as a pack brahmin. |
|
Kevin |
Wonderful. Then there is simply the matter of money exchanging hands and you can go off as a proud brahmin owner. |
|
Player |
Sorry, I had other ideas. I guess it's no sale. |
|
Kevin |
I regret that we could not come to an agreement. If you find yourself needing a brahmin for humane reasons, please stop back. |
|
These are some alternate takes for recruiting Betsy:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Wonderful. I am sure you will grow to love my Betsy as I have. Please, do take care of her. |
|
Kevin |
Let me get the gate for you. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
You have made a wise decision this day my friend. I am sure my Betsy will serve you well in the days to come. Please do take care of her. |
|
Kevin |
Now let me get the gate for you, and she's all yours. |
|
If visited again with Betsy in the player's party, Kevin would ask about her wellbeing:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Kevin |
Ahh my friend, welcome. I hope you're taking good care of my brahmin. |
|
Player |
She seems happy. |
|
Kevin |
Good, good, that is all a man can ask. It warms my heart to know that she is finally in good hands. |
|
Kevin |
I pray that you are not working her too hard, however. You should both be sure to rest every now and then. |
|
Eventually however, Betsy would go missing, and Kevin would react poorly to the information:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Kevin |
Ahh my friend, welcome. I hope you're taking good care of my brahmin. |
|
Player |
Actually, she's gone missing. Have you seen her anywhere? |
|
Kevin |
No! This is terrible news. I cannot bare the thought that my poor brahmin is wandering alone out in the waste. |
|
Kevin |
How could you let this happen? I entrusted her care to you, and this is how you repay such trust. Please, do not speak to me again. |
|
The player could ask if Kevin knew anything about this:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
I don't know. Betsy was specifically trained to follow her master or stay in a single place on command. |
|
Kevin |
The only reason I can think that she would go against her training were if she were mistreated. |
|
Kevin |
No, do not attempt to defend yourself. That she ran away reveals much of your character. I will have nothing further to do with you. |
|
The player could attempt to apologise and make amends:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
As am I. Sorry I ever entrusted the care of a sweet creature like Betsy to a snake like you. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Yes. Please go, so I am not reminded that my poor Betsy is somewhere out there suffering at the hands of who knows what because of your carelessness. |
|
Alternatively, the player could also ask about the replacement Brahmin in Kevin's pen that resembled Betsy, and possibly offer to purchase her too:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Actually, she ran away. Isn't that her right there? |
|
Kevin |
What? No, of course not. To someone new to brahmin such as you, I imagine they all appear similar. |
|
Kevin |
But to someone intimately familiar with the breed like myself, they're each beautiful and unique. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
No, I am afraid I cannot. You have already proven yourself too unreliable to be trusted with such an exquisite beast. Keep your money. |
|
If the player attempted to accuse Kevin without proof, he would offer the following rebuke:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Kevin |
No, I do not wish to hear any more of your lies, oh abuser of helpless Brahmin. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
I can assure you it is not. I am sorry that misfortune has befallen you, but you do nothing to better your situation by blaming its cause on others. |
|
Kevin |
Now, unless you have some kind of proof, I will not hear any more of your wild accusations. |
|
At this point, the player would need to visit the merchant Tom Dooley, who would've peddled his wares just outside of the Old Mormon Fort. Upon trading with him, the player would realise his stock included the items Betsy was carrying for them at the time of her disappearance. The player could then confront Kevin with this information:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
I'm sorry! Please don't hurt me! You can have anything you want, just name it, just don't hurt me. |
|
Here, the player could shake him down or give him a warning:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
No! No, of course not, I wouldn't dream of it. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Yes! Here, take it all. I have learned a harsh lesson today, and will spend many nights reflecting on the error of my ways. |
|
The player could also request Kevin let them borrow Betsy again:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Very well. Betsy, your master has returned. |
|
The player could also ask if it was the same Brahmin, or if Kevin was trying to cheat them again:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Of course, it is the same one. So she should have no trouble taking orders from you. In fact, I am sure she will be pleased to accompany you again. |
|
Kevin |
If you ever need to keep her somewhere, I shall consider it an honour to take care of her myself, as if she were still my own. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Of course, it is the same one. So she should have no trouble taking orders from you. In fact, I am sure she will be pleased to accompany you again. |
|
Kevin |
However, I am afraid my Betsy is a little shy and will not accompany a group. But feel free to return at any time by yourself and take her with you. |
|
After successful completion of the quest, Kevin would then use the following greeting:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
My most wise teacher, your brahmin is ready and waiting to accompany you. |
|
Two more lines for Kevin, but it's clear where exactly in this quest they would've been used:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
||
Kevin |
As you say, she and I both bask in your presence. |
|
Player |
||
Kevin |
Do not tighten your purse strings out of concern for me. I'll have another brahmin in a day or so, I guarantee it. |
|
Rotface#
Another tip for Rotface. Here he refers to the unused NPC Kevin Hargrove and potential player companion Betsy.
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |

|
Rotface |
If you find yourself weighed down more often than not, there's a peddler just outside the north gate selling a pack Brahmin on the cheap. |
00154793 |
Rotface |
His price is a little suspicious, though. He's going so low even I could almost buy one... |
00154793 |
Tom Dooley#
There are multiple lines of dialogue present for this NPC which link into the cut Betsy companion quest. It's not clear how exactly this conversation would've played out, but below is a possible scenario.
These are some generic lines for Tom to introduce himself and for the player to ask about his wares:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Tom |
Howdy. Can I interest you in some fine second hand goods? |
|
Player |
- |
|
Tom |
All sorts of things that might interest a traveller such as yourself. Couldn't hurt to take a peek, right? |
|
The player could trade with him, or turn him down:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Show me what you have. |
|
Tom |
I'm sure you'll find something of use. |
0012932D |
Player |
Certainly. What do you have for sale? |
|
Tom |
All good stuff and at a fair price. |
0012934B |
Player |
Not right now, thanks. |
|
Tom |
No problem. Come again. |
0012932F |
After realising that Tom's inventory included items Betsy was carrying at the time of her disappearance, the player could accuse Tom of stealing their items:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
That's my stuff! |
|
Tom |
I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. |
00129315 |
Here the player asks about his supplier:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Who is your supplier? |
|
Tom |
I have a partner who brings stuff in that he finds out in the waste. Name of Kevin Hargrove. |
|
Player |
Does your supplier happen to also sell brahmin? |
|
Tom |
Well I guess he does. What does that have to do with anything? |
|
An alternate branch:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
Are you in this with the brahmin seller over there? |
|
Tom |
He brings in the stuff I sell, sure. Are you saying he stole these items from you? |
0012933B |
Another branch, this one seems to lead into the resolution of the quest. There is an unassigned player line for Tom that reads "What a coincidence. I only recently had my stuff stolen", it may have been intended to be the second player line in this conversation:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
File |
|---|---|---|
Player |
The items you're selling, they're mine. |

Doctor Rotson?
This dialogue is stored under the maleghoul2 voice type and has the prefix "SL" in its filenames, which stands for secondary location. There is a ghoul in the final game named Doctor Rotson who inhabits Hell's Motel, which has the internal name "SLHellsMotel", showing it is a secondary location. Rotson also has the voice type maleghoul2, further evidencing these lines may have been intended for him. While Rotson spawns dead, he has a merchant inventory assigned to him and AI packages which suggest he would've been encountered alive at one point. It is worth noting however that there isn't a build available where these lines are implemented into the game proper, they exist only as stray audio files in the BSA files for this build; this makes it difficult to confirm for certain who they were intended for, but Rotson seems to be a likely candidate.
Unfortunately, this dialogue is the same as Doctor Barrow's dialogue for providing generic medial services in Fallout 3, with Barrows being a ghoul doctor in Underworld. The only difference is the amount of caps charged, they are either cheaper or not specified, likely because medical services are slightly cheaper in Fallout New Vegas than in Fallout 3.

I'd like to join the Great Khans. |

Oh, would you? And what makes you think you’re worthy of becoming a Great Khan? Come back when you’ve proved your worth. |

Hidden Valley VR Simulation
Taggart#

Johnson Nash
Johnson Nash has a set of lines detailing the original version of events that led to the Courier's predicament. After Ulysses got removed from the game, different lines were written and recorded for Nash to set him up as a mysterious character for the DLC. This dialogue would go on to be voiced and put into the game, although the later lines replaced it. Also, the final game variant has another line before this first one, yet its voice file was accidentally overwritten by another line of Nash's.
