This is a sub-page of Proto:Fallout: New Vegas.
A build from mid February, there are changes throughout that are present in this iteration only. There are a large number of lines loaded into this memory dump also, a further look shows that these are mostly lines that don't open the dialogue menu proper, i.e generic greeting and goodbye lines and lines used for conversations between NPCs.
Quests
An Eye For An Eye#
Originally, this quest was offered by Major Polatli and not First Sergeant Astor, as evidenced by a number of unused quest objectives seen below. There is dialogue present for Major Polatli in the April 17th build as well to account for this, but it is a word for word with the dialogue First Sergeant Astor uses in the final.
Objective Index |
Objective |
|---|---|
40 |
Return to Major Polatli with the intel. |
50 |
Return to Major Polatli with the intel. |
100 |
You found part of the Mayor's List. |
Booted#
A number of objectives were recovered from an early version of the quest Booted that suggests it was somewhat more complex early in the game's development:
Objective Index |
Objective |
|---|---|
10 |
Search around Nipton for the Mayor's List. |
15 |
You found part of the Mayor's List. |
20 |
You found part of the Mayor's List. |
25 |
Rescue the captured NCR and Gangers. |
100 |
Booted Complete |
In the final version of the quest the player is pointed directly towards the Legion raid camp by Boxcars. In this version, the player would have had to search around Nipton first for the "Mayor's List" which appears to have been separated into multiple parts. There is another objective present also where the player would rescue captured NCR and Powder Gang hostages. This is noteworthy as in the final game, no NCR troopers survive the events at Nipton.
Render Unto Caesar#
An unused objective for Render Unto Caesar. This implies Caesar would've asked the player to secure the Brotherhood's help at one point:
Objective Index |
Objective |
|---|---|
80 |
Tell Caesar that you were unable to acquire the Brotherhood of Steel's help against the NCR. |
Still In The Dark#
Some unused lines of dialogue were recovered for Ranger Dobson and the Paladin hit squad from the quest Still In The Dark. These lines suggest there was to be an additional exchange here if the player opted to tell Dobson about the Brotherhood bunker nearby. In the final game, no such verbal exchange occurs if the Brotherhood's location is divulged; they simply enter to kill the player and Dobson. Interestingly, there are two versions of the exchange, the latter suggesting the player and Dobson could prepare some kind of explosive trap first.
Unused Interiors
Cottonwood Cove Bunker#
Its in-game name was "Abandoned Bunker", being first implemented in this build. While a layout has not been recovered, other remnants of the cell present in this dump help better understand what would be contained within. Coordinates for six persistent objects within the bunker are present, including five utility doors, showing that this dungeon used the utility tileset. One door is named “NVCCNuclearWasteEntrance”, with the reference name being “NVCCNuclearWasteExitRef”, suggesting this was the bunker's entry and exit point. They also reveal there was some kind of waste storage facility within the bunker; possibly where the radroaches would have been found. There are two terminals present also, NVCCBunkerTermWALLAverage and NVCCoreTerminal. The leftover placement data for the doors allows for an approximation of the size of the bunker, showing it was a fairly large space.
Unused Dialogue
Goodsprings#
Doc Mitchell#
A line of dialogue for Doc Mitchell, which alludes to the cut part of the opening, where the player would've had to grab a Brahmin skull in his living room:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Doc Mitchell |
See that Brahmin skull above the mantle? Try and get her down. |
East Vegas#
Crimson Caravan#
Some unused greetings for a number of NPCs associated with an early version of the quest Young Hearts where the player would have to question Crimson Caravan employees in order to learn of Janet's identity. Two of these NPCs would later be cut from the game entirely:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
CrimsonCaravanWorkerAAM |
Watch your step. There's brahmin crap everywhere around here. |
1ECrimsonCaravanWorkerCM (cut) |
McLafferty's been riding my ass ever since she got here. She needs to back the hell off once in awhile. |
1ECrimsonCaravanGuardAAM |
When pay day hits, I'm off to the Strip. I can't wait! |
1ECrimsonCaravanGuardCM |
It's pretty safe around here. Most of the time we just need to keep an eye out for the wildlife. |
1ECrimsonCaravanGuardAF |
If you're here for a contract, you'll want to talk to Alice McLafferty. She's usually over in the main office. |
1ECrimsonCaravanGuardAAM2 |
You looking to buy or sell? Talk to Blake - he handles all of that. |
CrimsonCaravanTraderHM |
I just got back from New Canaan, way north of here. It'll be good to have some down time. |
1ECrimsonCaravanGuardCM2 (cut) |
I'd rather be guarding a caravan rather than spending all day in the boss's company, even if I am in the shade. |
Labelled as CrimsonCaravanTraderCF internally, she has some unused greeting lines. She is not associated with the quest Young Hearts:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Trader |
If you're looking to buy and sell, head over to the Crimson Caravan Company's main camp. I'm just delivering supplies to McCarran. |
Trader |
Hello, again. Another day, another delivery. |
Raphael#
An unused greeting for Raphael, presumably for after the player had helped him with his marksmanship.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Raphael |
Thanks a lot for your advice. |
Gun Runner#
An unused greeting for generic Gun Runner guards, making them some of the few NPCs to comment on power armor in the game.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Gun Runner Guard |
Power armor - now there's something you don't see anymore. |
North Vegas#
Alice Hostetler#
Some unused greeting lines for Alice Hostetler, these are of interest because they seem to be from the early scenario of this quest, referenced in the November build.

I don't know what you want, just please, leave us alone! |
Alice |
You took him away! I hate you! |
Alice |
Thank you for helping us! |

Some unused lines for Andy Scabb. Again, these seem to reference the early scenario for the quest Someone To Watch Over Me.

An unused greeting for Don Hostetler, seems to be in relation to the cut Hostetler affair quest referenced through dialogue in the April build.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Don |
Haven't you done enough to ruin my life? |
West Vegas#
Frankie#
Some unused lines for the cut NPC Frankie. The first seems to be a greeting for use after the player had cured his addiction; the rest seem to be generic barks the character was set up to say at random intervals.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Frankie |
So sleepy. |
Frankie |
Ants! So many ants! |
Frankie |
|
Frankie |
|
Westside Peacekeeper#
An unused set of greeting lines for these cut NPCs:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|

If you're here to recruit for the army, we don't want any of it. |
Peacekeeper |
You moving in or just dropping by for a visit? |
Peacekeeper |
You lost? The Strip is east of here. |
Peacekeeper |
We don't want any trouble. |
Peacekeeper |
What are you doing around here, soldier? We got nothing for you. |
The Strip#
Benny#
Dialogue responses for an unused interaction with Benny are present in this build. Here, the player punches Benny during the initial meeting at The Tops.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Player |
Here, Benny - I got something for ya. |
There are three separate responses, dependent on the player's unarmed skill:
Speaker |
Text |
Condition |
|---|---|---|
Benny |
<camera cuts to 3rd person to show you slug Benny in the face, then returns to conversation.> |
Unarmed < 35 |
Benny |
{back to the player}Was that supposed to make an impression? You should do something about that noodle arm of yours. |
Unarmed < 35 |
Benny |
<camera cuts to 3rd person to show you slug Benny in the face, then returns to conversation.> |

Benny |
You know how to throw a punch, kid. Did it feel good to get that out of your system? |
Unarmed < 75 |
Benny |
<camera cuts to 3rd person to show you slug Benny in the face, then returns to conversation.> |
Unarmed >= 75 |
Benny |
{bowled over by the force of the punch}Hello! The guards at the door let you bring that swing through security? Goddamn. |
Unarmed >= 75 |
Boulder City#
NCR Troopers#
A generic line intended for NCR troopers in the area, where they reference the mostly commented out NPC Sergeant Hastings:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
NCR Trooper |
Do I look like I'm in charge? You want Sergeant Hastings or Lieutenant Monroe. |
Sergeant Hastings#
Some lines for Hastings to react to the different outcomes for the early version of the quest Boulder City Showdown:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Hastings |
Now that it's over, they'd better give us our leave. |
Hastings |
Fuck. We have escort duty now. I'm never going to get my leave. |
Hastings |
Don't worry about us. We haven't seen a thing. |
NCR Correctional Facility#
Bodyguard#
These are greeting lines intended for use by Eddie's bodyguard.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Bodyguard |
Keep an eye out for more NCR! I don't think we got all of them. |
Bodyguard |
Thanks for the help with the NCR. You and me are all right. |
Bodyguard |
Just keep on moving. I've got no interest in you. |
Carter#
An unused greeting for Carter, if spoken with during the attack:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Carter |
Find your own spot to hide! I don't want to get shot! |
Dawes#
An unused line for Dawes, intended to be used during the NCR attack on the prison. The second is a generic goodbye line.
Speaker |

Oh, man. This is bad, real bad! Worse than that one time in the Hub! |
Dawes |
You can go on in, but if you're stupid you won't be coming out again. |

|---|---|

No time to talk. We've got trouble. |

A similarly unused line for Hannigan:
Speaker |

|---|---|

I knew I should've gone with Cooke! |

Some unused greeting and goodbye lines for Meyers. The greeting is for when he is spoken with during the NCR attack on the prison.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Meyers |
Sounds like the NCR is finally getting off their ass to settle things around here. Don't expect me to get in their way. |
Meyers |
If you're smart you won't come back. |
Meyers |
Why do I get the feeling you'll be back? |

A greeting line for the NCRCF hostage, if spoken with during his escape attempt:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Hostage |
Don't worry, I'm moving! |
Primm#
Lieutenant Hayes#
An unused line for Hayes, this is actually the missing first line of the cut conversation between Hayes and McGee that would have occurred in the event McGee is appointed sheriff:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Hayes |
Stand at attention soldier. |
Quarry Junction#
Chomps Lewis#
An unused line for Chomps Lewis, for use in the cut scenario where he would tag along with the player to remove the deathclaws.

Two unused lines for Hawkins, the cut stranded Powder Ganger.
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|
Hawkins |
I'm a little busy running for my life right now! |
Hawkins |
Be seeing ya. |
Cottonwood Cove#
Decanus Severus#
A player line intended for Decanus Severus was recovered from this build also. In the final game, the player shows him a powder charge schematic so the Legion can learn how to create them. In this build, it was an explosive check of 70 instead. When the check was removed, the following prompts were removed also:
Speaker |
Text |
|---|---|

Hidden Valley#
Ranger Dobson#
Some unused lines for Dobson, suggesting him and the player could prepare a trap for the Brotherhood hit squad:
Speaker |

Now gentleman, four of you against little ol' us? That's hardly fair. |
Dobson |
Now, four of you against us and the crapload of explosives planted near your feet, that's fair. |
Paladin Hit Squad#
Responses for the Paladin hit squad:
Speaker |

There are many like it... |

But this one is mine. |

I'm out! Peace! |

An unused greeting for Sen Lin, related to his egg hunting quest. Unfortunately, it's just a description of what the character would say.
