NCR#

Lieutenant Monroe#

Lieutenant Monroe has additional dialogue present within the files that reflects an early version of the Boulder City Showdown quest.

Here Monroe would introduce the early version of the quest, back when the player needed to scout for the location of the hostages first. There is also some cut dialogue that references the early version of the quest They Went That-A Way, back when the circumstances of Benny's betrayal were slightly different:

Player

Do you know what the Great Khans want?

Monroe

They claim they just want us to step aside so they can get out of NCR territory.

0010D9F0

Monroe

They also said that it was someone named Benny, I think, that started shooting at my troops in the first place.

0010D9F0

Monroe

I think that the Great Khans had a falling out. There's a house in the south part of the city, where there's a bunch of dead ones.

0010D9F0

Player

I could sneak in there and try to get your people out.

Monroe

Considering that the hostages are dead as soon as we attack, I'm willing to give you a chance.

00116FE7

Monroe

Find out where they are keeping my missing troops. Once you've made your report, I can get my snipers into position.

00116FE7

Monroe

With any luck the guards will be taken out when we attack. I don't want any heroics, just find out where my troopers are and get out of there.

00116FE7

The player could pass a speech check of 45 here as well:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

<Sneak Option - 45>

Monroe

That would be useful. As it is now, the hostages don't stand a chance if we assault the Khans now.

00110FD5

Monroe

If you can find out where they're being kept, my snipers might be able to take down any Khans guarding them when we attack.

00110FD5

Monroe

I don't want any heroics, just find out where my troopers are and get out of there.

00110FD5

Player

<Sneak Option - 45>

Monroe

An interesting idea, but no thanks. The Great Khans would definitely know we were up to something.

00116BBC

Here he reacts to the player's success:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Yes. If you've got a map, I can show you which building it is.

Monroe

Perfect. I can have snipers take out the Khans guarding them. When we attack, that should buy us time to rescue them.

0010D50B

Monroe

I'm ordering the assault immediately since I don't want to give the Khans a chance to move the hostages to another hiding place.

0010D50B

Monroe

You're welcome to help us out. I do understand if you'd prefer to lay low until this is over.

0010D50B

Player

Monroe

Good. Hopefully my marksman can take the guards out when we assault.

00111519

In the final game, the player can bribe Lt. Monroe to look the other while the Khans slip out. In this version of the quest, Sgt. Hastings is the subject of the bribe instead. Here he reacts to the Khan's disappearance:

Player

Monroe

We're packing up and moving out. Somehow, the Great Khans managed to slip out of the ruins undetected.

001176DB

Player

Any idea what happened?

Monroe

None. There must have been a gap in the rubble that we missed, or maybe they tunnelled out. It's still going to be my ass.

00118F26

Monroe

I appreciate you trying to help out, though. None of this was your fault.

00118F26

Player

Goodbye.

Monroe

I'm not looking forward to explaining this to McCarran.

00118F29

In the final game, the hostages are tied up together - freeing one will automatically free the other. In this version they seem to have been tied up separately initially, and Monroe has dialogue to account for this:

Player

Monroe

I see that one of the hostages managed to escape thanks to you. Is there any chance you can get the other one out?

0011151A

Player

Private Ackerman is alright, but Private Gilbert didn't make it.

Monroe

Damn, I'd planned on recommending Gilbert for Corporal.

00115CB0

Player

Private Gilbert is alright, but Private Ackerman didn't make it.

Monroe

Ackerman was a good kid. A little headstrong, but a fine trooper all the time.

00115CB0

Monroe

Thanks for your help. Chances were high that we'd have lost both troopers if you hadn't come along.

00115CB2

In the final freeing the hostages will automatically trigger the NCR assault. In this version the player would need to report back to Monroe before it would begin:

Speaker

Player

Monroe

Both hostages escaped thanks to you. That was a big gamble you took, but it looks like it paid off.

0011151

Monroe

Now that the Khans no longer have any leverage I'll be able to order a full assault to take out any Great Khans still hiding in the ruins.

0011151B

Monroe

You're welcome to help us out. I do understand if you'd prefer to lay low until this is over.

0011151B

Private Hastings#

This NPC has dialogue present alluding to a cut outcome for the Boulder City Showdown quest. Additional greeting lines for Hastings post quest have also been recovered from the build dated February the 16th.

Some generic lines for Hastings:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Hastings

This is bullshit. We are supposed to be on leave, not shooting it out with Great Khans.

0010F6F6

Player

Hastings

No one goes past the checkpoint without the Lieutenant's authorisation. Any further, and we'll shoot you.

00113C04

Player

You can't tell me what to do.

Hastings

My rifle says otherwise. Besides, those are Lieutenant Monroe's orders. You want to get in, you take it up with him.

00113BFF

Here Hastings introduces the situation:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

What's past the checkpoint?

Hastings

We got some Great Khans hiding out further in. Talk to Lieutenant Monroe if you want the whole story.

00113C02

Player

What's past the checkpoint?

Hastings

You can find the Lieutenant on the west side of town, near the Big Horn Saloon.

00113C03

The player could follow up with some generic questions about the situation:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

Does this sort of thing happen a lot in the NCR's military?

Hastings

Getting screwed all the time. When they say you'll be at a post for a week, they really mean a month. Possibly two.

0010F6F2

Player

What do you know about the Great Khans?

Hastings

Nothing. The officer said they're bad guys. So here we are.

0011776C

Player

Why did you join up in the first place?

Hastings

I'm supposed to be patrolling the roads back in California. Easy, safe and boring. Instead, I got dragged back here to the front lines.

0011776B

The player could also suggest a bribe:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

How much would it take for you to ignore the Great Khan's escape through here?

Hastings

What an interesting idea. If my buddies and I were distracted counting, say, 500 caps, I'm sure we'd miss a lot of things.

The player could consider or decline:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

I'll be back with your caps.

Hastings

I'll be waiting.

00116BB7

Player

I'll consider it.

Hastings

Well, you know where to find me.

0011205E

Player

I don't have that many caps.

Hastings

Too bad. No caps, no deal.

0010F6EF

The player could also attempt a barter check to reduce the bribe:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

<Barter 45> 400 caps, and you can tell your friends that I only gave you 300.

Hastings

Sounds more than fair. 400 caps, pay up.

0011205B

Player

<Barter not 45> 500 is way too much. I was thinking 400.

Hastings

Well think your way back up to 500, because that's what I want.

00116BBB

The player could then pay the reduced or original total:

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

About those caps you wanted...

Hastings

500 caps and my friends and I will be very, very distracted.

001197BD

Player

500 caps it is. Here you go.

Hastings

Deal. Me and my friends will be over here, minding our own business. Your friends can just walk on by.

0010F6E8

Player

About those caps you wanted...

Hastings

You got me down to 400 caps. Pay up and my friends and I will look the other way.

001197BE

Player

Here you go.

Hastings

Pleasure doing business. My friends and I will be over here, minding our own business. Your friends can just walk on by.

Great Khans#

Jessup#

Jessup has dialogue that suggests the events regarding Benny's betrayal played out differently to the final. Other Boulder City NPCs also have dialogue referencing this, referring to a house of the dead Great Khans to the south.

Speaker

Dialogue

Form ID

Player

He betrayed you?

Jessup

We got tired of waiting to get paid, so we confiscated the chip, while Benny headed over to the Strip to get the money.

00116FDB

Jessup

We were sloppy, Benny came back that night and started taking us all out in our sleep, one by one.

00116FDB

Jessup

The only reason we survived was because McMurphy woke up as Benny shot him. Then that NCR patrol showed up, and here we are.

00116FDB

Guard#

This is dialogue for a generic Great Khan, possibly guarding one of the hostages:

Go on, get out of here.
