This is a sub-page of Proto:Fallout: New Vegas/April 17, 2010.
A large amount of unused dialogue was recovered from this build, reflecting elements altered when compared to the final or removed entirely. With the use of the Fallout-Xbox-360-utils program on Github, it is possible to locate form IDs for unused player lines. These form IDs correspond to the IDs contained within the filenames for dialogue lines recovered from this build, allowing them to be matched. Please note that all dialogue here is text to speech unless otherwise stated.
Alexander
Alexander has multiple unused lines referring to him being able to buy Vance's 9mm Submachinegun from the player. More information on this cut task can be found on the main page for the April 17th build.
Here the player can ask about placing special orders, which leads into the task:

Can I place a special order? |
|
Alexander |
I do take special orders - sometimes. But they're real special - as in "special expensive" and for "special people" only. |
000E88F0 |
Alexander |
But I'll tell you what. I'm always interested in rare and unusual weapons. Find something that fits the bill, and you might start looking "special." |
000E88F0 |
Player |
Can I place a special order? |
|
Alexander |
That depends. You got anything special to show me? |
000E88F1 |
Player |
No, I guess not. |
|
Alexander |
Then I guess you're not special enough right now, hmm? |
00E8912 |
Vance's 9mm Submachinegun would suffice for this task:

Let me take a look at you... sure enough. That's special enough. The firearms of infamous outlaws always command a fair price. |
00E88f7 |
Alexander |
I'll give you 250 caps, how's that sound? |
00E88f7 |

250 caps it is. |

Alright, here's your money. |
00E890a |
Player |
I think I'll hang onto it for now. |
|
Alexander |
No one likes a thief, kid. If you want special orders, I'm gonna need to see something special first. |

The player could also attempt a barter check of 35 to negotiate more caps in exchange for the weapon:

250 caps is a lot of money! Wait! I mean it's *not* a lot of money! |

Player |
I think a man would be very lucky indeed to catch you. |
|
Harcourt |
Ha, I know better than to fall for smooth talkers like you. But, you can call me Nina. |
00103a2c |
Player |
I win more than my fair share of coin tosses. How is that a bad thing? |

Harcourt |
Some of the other soldiers think I'm a jinx. I use up everyone else's luck when they're around me lucky Harcourt. That's what they call me. |
001028ba |
Player |
I'm sure the casinos of New Vegas love you. |
|
Harcourt |
I'm actually not much of a gambler, I'd love to visit the Ultra-Luxe one of these days, though. |
001028ad |
Player |
Right. Biggs mentioned you. |
|
Harcourt |
Oh, I love Biggs. He's always telling me he wishes I'd catch a bullet between the eyes when we go on patrol. Such a sweetheart. |
001028b0 |
Harcourt |
He's the one who originally started calling me Lucky Harcourt, you know. He didn't mean it as a compliment. |
001028b0 |
Player |
That has to bother you, right? |
|
Harcourt |
I'm not some superstitious tribal, unlike some of the others, I just do what they taught me in basic, stay sharp and learn to duck. |
001028bf |
Harcourt |
Anyway, the Lieutenant's gonna be on my ass if he sees me jawing with you. See you around. |
001028bf |
Player |
Uh, what? |
|
Harcourt |
Sorry, it's sort of an unfunny private joke around here. The short version is I'm lucky, but everyone around me isn't, like a jinx. |
001028b8 |
Harcourt |
Some of the other soldiers think I'm a jinx. I use up all others luck when they're around me. Lucky Harcourt, that's what they call me. |
001028b8 |
Player |
Why do the other soldiers think you're a jinx? |
|
Harcourt |
Because the last two squads I was a part of were both wiped out. Except for me, of course. I didn't get a scratch on me either time. |
001028b4 |
Harcourt |
The next thing I know, I'm some kind of walking curse. Oh no, Harcourts here. We're all going to die. |
001028b4 |
Player |
You put on a brave face, but I can tell that it bothers you, just a bit. |
|
Harcourt |
I think about it all the time, the band of Nightstalkers? (Cannot make out what is being said) just couldn't get a bead on me. I was fighting hard, but so was everyone else. |
001028ab |
Harcourt |
And that Fiend grenade, right in the middle of the patrol. No time to shout a warning, and nobody got out except me. |
001028ab |

Boulder City Showdown
Lieutenant Monroe#
Lieutenant Monroe has additional dialogue present within the files that reflects an early version of the Boulder City Showdown quest.
Here Monroe would introduce the early version of the quest, back when the player needed to scout for the location of the hostages first. There is also some cut dialogue that references the early version of the quest They Went That-A Way, back when the circumstances of Benny's betrayal were slightly different:

Do you know what the Great Khans want? |
|
Monroe |
They claim they just want us to step aside so they can get out of NCR territory. |
0010D9F0 |
Monroe |
They also said that it was someone named Benny, I think, that started shooting at my troops in the first place. |
0010D9F0 |
Monroe |
I think that the Great Khans had a falling out. There's a house in the south part of the city, where there's a bunch of dead ones. |
0010D9F0 |
Player |
I could sneak in there and try to get your people out. |
|
Monroe |
Considering that the hostages are dead as soon as we attack, I'm willing to give you a chance. |
00116FE7 |
Monroe |
Find out where they are keeping my missing troops. Once you've made your report, I can get my snipers into position. |
00116FE7 |
Monroe |
With any luck the guards will be taken out when we attack. I don't want any heroics, just find out where my troopers are and get out of there. |
00116FE7 |
The player could pass a speech check of 45 here as well:

Mags#
Mags has a sizeable number of unused voice lines that allude to the early version of the quest. By the time of this build, however, it seems the early version of this quest was abandoned and was actively being changed to the final version; for this reason many voice lines related to the early scenario have already been removed. Fortunately, some of these missing voice lines have been preserved in memory dumps from earlier builds of the game, and these dialogue responses can be used to understand how the early version of the quest would have proceeded.
This is the dialogue used to start Mags' route of the quest, the responses are from a January the 4th build:

Mags |

These lines are for reporting back, unfortunately all seem to lack responses:

So, did you get your report back from the "shooting practice? |

This dialogue seems to be for introducing the cut task where the player would delete the Misfits' mission orders:

An unused skill check of sorts for Mags. In the final, the player needs to pass the rifle range to proceed onto the grenade course. In this version of the quest, the player could've passed a skill check to move onto the grenade course if they failed the rifle range:

O'Hanrahan#
Dialogue exists in this build for a speech check with O'Hanrahan. In the final, O'Hanrahan's route involves passing speech checks with the other Misfits in order to convince them to work together. As O'Hanarahan assigns this task to the player, he himself does not have a speech check. At this point in development, O'Hanrahan did not have his own route; and the task to convince the Misfits to work together was assigned by Mags instead:

Poindexter#
A dialogue exchange where Poindexter refers to a cache at Camp Golf placed in case of an emergency. In case of a surprise attack, the commander buried a huge cache of weapons. Power armor, explosives, you name it go look around, you'll find it. |
00104F40 |
This is the dialogue that would've originally been used to start his route of the quest. Interestingly, his dialogue is identical to the final game; the developers simply altered the player lines to mask the original context of the quest:
Speaker |
Dialogue |

Sgt. McCredie is sending your squad on a suicide mission if you don't shape up. |

Player |
He thinks it will get you to act like soldiers. |
|
Poindexter |
This is an unexpected variable. Damn, I should have planned for this. |
001058FE |
Mags' route of the quest could be discussed with Poindexter as well:
Speaker |

I meant actually help you learn to throw grenades. |

Poindexter |
Oh, I see. As inefficient as that sounds, you should perhaps talk to mags about that. |

Further dialogue to discuss legitimate improvements with Poindexter. A response for this has not been recovered, only a player line:
Speaker |
Dialogue |

Player |
Based on your performance, McCredie's cancelled the mission. |
The original dialogue to assign his task to the player. This version of the dialogue mentions only one terminal; it seems the other was for the cut stage of the quest to delete the squad's mission orders entirely:

Poindexter |

Poindexter |
If you can hack into the system, you might be able to alter our records. Cleverly done! |
001058F2 |
Player |
I can help with that, too. |
|
Poindexter |
Ideal. The computer system containing the evaluation records is in a back office, at the resort. If you hack in, you can alter the scores. |
0010774B |

I'm on it. |

Poindexter |
Possibly harder than you think. This is a separate system from the evaluation scoring system, and it's much more heavily secured. |
00107749 |
Player |
Guess I won't get caught, then. |
|
Poindexter |
That would be advisable. |
00107762 |
Player |
Too risky for me - you're on your own. |
|
Poindexter |
I should have suspected you'd cut and run from the difficult tasks. Very well, on the very slim chance we survive, I will speak to you later. |

Great Khan Ritemaster
This NPC has a subset of the exact same dialogue in the April build as found in the July build, only in TTS format. However, there is one line in this version that is missing in the July files. Going by the filenames and the fact the dialogue tree it comes from is repeated twice and yet is missing from both, it's likely this was deliberately cut probably for brevity in an already long conversation.

A lot of soldiers go out on patrol, and never come back. They think we'll assume they got ambushed by raiders. |
000F0AF1 |
Boyd |
Half of the time that actually ends up happening, one of the few natural curves we have on desertion. |
000D0AF1 |
Boyd |
The trade off is we have a lot of people trying to lie their way to an honourable discharge instead. |
000D0AF1 |
Boyd |
This soldier Jacobs right now, for instance. Heck of a track record, make you wanna name your kid after him. |
000F0AF1 |

Then one day he just stands up in the middle of a firefight, and walks back to base. Casually, like he's taking a stroll. |

I'm afraid that after this Jacobs discharge, whether he's faking or not, everybody's going to be in the psych ward next week with the same symptoms. |

Lieutenant Hayes#
Some unused dialogue for Lt. Hayes, here he makes references to cut functionality from the quest "My Kind Of Town". He also provides additional background information on the NCR in general. Also worth noting is that Hayes is more gruff and impatient in this build, compared to his comparatively calm demeanour in the final.
General dialogue for Hayes, the line "At last count, we had over 700,000 productive, literate citizens." is unusual as this was the count given in Fallout 2, set 40 years prior.

The White Wash
Lieutenant Romanowski#
Some unused lines of dialogue for Lieutenant Romanowski referencing the early scenario for The White Wash quest. Notably, he directly references the cut NPC Wrench. Worth noting is that there is an unused part of the quest referenced in the November build that involves investigating the East Pump Station. There is no mention of this in Romanowski's dialogue here, suggesting it was cut by this point.
This dialogue is for questioning Romanowski about the situation:

000F0860 |
Player |

|
Romanowski |

000F3BEF |

Wrench#
An NPC from the quest VMS10 that would become 'The White Wash' in the final game. There are remnants of this very early iteration even in the final data, but this build contains the full dialogue of the cut NPC Wrench, an alcoholic mechanic who would have spilled the beans on what was really going on with the water supply in this quest before he was replaced. It seems he never got beyond having temporary text-to-speech dialogue, and the lines here seem to have been re-written multiple times already. Many of the below lines are duplicated in the archive, so only the first instance of each particular line is documented. Notably Wrench was a ghoul character, something he even mentions in his dialogue. As already known, the pawn shop vendor Miguel was called Angelo at this point in time, and Westside was called 'The Doldrums'. The below dialogue confirms Corporal White was called by his final name at this point, and seems to be the only NPC involved with the quest who wasn't renamed. An NPC entry for Wrench as well as more information on the early version of the quest are present in the November build.
Generic dialogue for Wrench, including general questions and requesting repairs:

|

|
Player |
I need something repaired. |
|
Wrench |
Fine. |
|
Player |
Goodbye. |
|
Wrench |
Yep. |
|
The player could then ask Wrench what he knows about the water shortage, which would prompt him to ask the player for a favour:
Speaker |

Player |
I was told you might know something about a water shortage. |
|
Wrench |
Mmm, heard something about that. Maybe know something about that if you did me a favour first. |
|
Player |
I'm looking for Corporal White. I was told he came to see you. |
|
Wrench |
Haven't seen him lately. I might know where he is though. Need a favour first. |
|
Player |
What favour? |
|
Wrench |
I pawned off my Snap-off super toolkit to buy more booze. I think I was drunk when I did it. |
|
Player |
What's the favour? |
|
Wrench |
I pawned off my Snap-off super toolkit to buy more whiskey. I think I was drunk when I did it. The irony. |
|
Player |
- |
|
Wrench |
Anyway, I can't do proper work without it. Get it back from Angelo and I'll tell you what I know. His pawn shop is up in the Doldrums. |
|
The player could agree to the favour for Wrench. The dialogue here shows that the Super Tool Kit was an incidental item which could be found outside of Angelo's pawn shop as well:

|
Player |
I'll get you a Super Tool Kit. |
|
Wrench |
I'm glad to hear it. |
|
Instead of doing a favour for Wrench, the player could instead pass a speech check of 40 to get the information from Wrench:
Speaker |
Dialogue |
Form ID |

Player |
I'm on official NCR business. Your help would be appreciated. |
|
Wrench |
Potential pay raise, huh? I have been thinking about buying another Mr. Handy. Alright then, about White. |
|
Player |
I'm working for the NCR, you know, so you'd better tell me what you know. |
|
Wrench |
The NCR needs me more than I need them. Nobody knows the pipe system better than me. So, ready to do that favour? |
|
If the player did not have a high enough speech skill, they could instead attempt to intimidate Wrench. There are two checks present, one is a skill check while the other checks for one of the player's SPECIAL stats instead. The stat in question is presumably strength:
Speaker |

|
Wrench |
Hmmm, a while back I happened to notice one of the Western pipes leaking. |
|
Player |
[Crack your knuckles ominously.] |
|
Wrench |
Alright bruiser. Forget doing me a favour. |

|
Player |

|
After returning his Super Tool Kit or passing a skill check, Wrench would discuss the matter with the player:

Actually, I already have a Super Tool Kit with me. |
|
Wrench |
Ah, thank you kindly. These are hard to come by. Not sure what I was thinking, but anyway... |
|
Wrench |
Water's flowing into the West side of town - NCR water. The problem with that is it's not supposed to be happening at all. The West side's cut off. |
|
Wrench |
White came to me, asking if I had noticed anything going on with the water pipes. After a generous payment of whiskey, I told him what I knew. |
|
Player |
So, there is a water shortage after all. How is that possible? |
|
Wrench |
I think that's what White was trying to find out. Since I couldn't tell him the who or the how of it, he decided to go with a stakeout. |
|
Wrench |
Unless all that water is just spilling into the ground somewhere - and I don't think it is - someone's collecting it. |
|
Wrench |
I think White was planning to keep an eye on the cisterns on the West side of town, and see who showed up. Guess it was more than he could handle. |
|
Player |
I don't care about the water. Where can I find White? |
|
Wrench |
White said he was going to keep an eye on the cisterns over on the West side of town. Someone's gotta collect the water, after all. |
|
Wrench |
Since White's gone missing he probably caught someone in the act of taking the water, and it turned out to be too much for him to handle. |
|
Player |
Someone could've hacked into the pump station computer systems. |
|
Wrench |
I hadn't thought of that. You might be right. It's the only way this could even be going on without the NCR catching on. |
|
Wrench |
Unless all that water is simply spilling into the ground - and I doubt it - somebody's got to be collecting it. |
|
Wrench |
White's plan was to catch and interrogate whoever was collecting the water from the cisterns on the West side. |
