This is a sub-page of Proto:Fallout: New Vegas.

A build from March. A crucial build in the development of the game, as it was clearly at the start of a major pass to try and optimize the game. Specifically, Freeside is now split into three Worldspaces, and The Strip was in its second incarnation here. There are also many smaller changes present in this version of the game only.

Quests

Booted#

There are two additional dialogue topics present under the Booted quest in this build, which imply there was an alternate resolution for the task where the player could simply purchase the slaves from the Legion captors. Responses for these player lines were found in audio files for the July build, revealing that with a successful speech check, the Legion would agree to sell the slaves to the player.

Unused NPCs

Elias#

FNV_-_Elias.png

Form ID: 13711F

Named vFortGladiatorElias internally, this was the original first arena opponent before they were replaced by two slaves. He is mentioned in a quest variable governing the arena quest: EliasDefeated, as well as in dialogue with Otho recovered from the April build. Worth noting is that Elias is still present in the final, he got repurposed as one of the two slaves fought in the first arena fight. His internal ID and in-game name have simply been altered to the generic slave naming convention.

Otho

That can be arranged. Your opponent will be a slave. Elias, I believe. Not much of a challenge I think, but could be entertaining.

Otho

As expected, it wasn't much of a fight; but what can you expect from a slave?

Flint#

FNV_-_Flint.png

Form ID: 13D6A8

A female character with the internal ID vMOFlint. Her internal name reveals she was meant to be present at the Mojave Outpost. She is assigned to the class "Weapons Vendor" and is equipped with a roving trader cap and outfit, suggesting she was a vendor of sorts before being removed. She is also present only in this build.

Trooper Avers#

FNV_-_Avers.png

Form ID: 13D6A5

An unused NPC with the internal name vMOAvers. He is an NCR Trooper equipped with generic fatigues and armaments present at the Mojave Outpost. Beyond his affiliation and location however, little else is known about this character.

Trooper Batow#

FNV_-_Batow.png

Form ID: 13D6A6

Another unused NCR soldier with the internal ID vMOBatow. He is present in this build only, and is otherwise completely identical to Avers, making it difficult to discern what his overall role would have been.

Ranger Deathwatch#

FNV_-_RangerDeathwatch.png

Form ID: 13D6A3

An NPC named vMORangerDeathwatch internally, this NPC was also set to be stationed at the Mojave Outpost. It is not yet understood what role she played.

Unused Item

Stealth Boy Mark II#

In the final game, this is present as a world object only. In this build however it exists as a consumable item, notably missing the prototype designation. This implies that at one point it was possible for the player to obtain a perfected version of the device for their own use. It has the same weight and value as a normal stealth boy.

Unused Interior

Boulder City Sewer System#

An unused interior cell for a sewer system beneath Boulder City. There are a number of ladders placed throughout with the utility prefix, suggesting the dungeon would have used that tileset. The placement of ladders also suggests that the cell would have been accessed via manholes in the exterior worldspace. While a full layout has not been recovered, coordinates for entrance and exit ladders have, showing this was a medium sized interior cell. Worth noting is that there is a manhole present on the road just outside of the Big Horn Saloon, meaning this may have been an entry point for the sewer.

Unused dialogue

President Kimball#

A slightly more updated version of President Kimball's speech was recovered from this build:

This is the first line of my very long speech.

This is the second line of my very long speech.

Kimball

This is the third line of my very long speech.

This is the fourth line of my very long speech.

This is the fifth line of my very long speech.

Kimball

This is the sixth line of my very long speech.

Kimball

This is the lucky seventh line of my speech that is starting to wrap up.

Kimball

This is line eight, where I'm making my key point.

Kimball

This is the end of the speech for now. Have a good night everyone.

Changed Locations

The Strip#

At this point in development both Strip world spaces exist concurrently. However, TheStripWorldNew is not merely a copy of the original design, but has been completely re-imagined and is close to the final iteration. Specifically this would be the version visible in the E3 2010 trailer - all buildings in their final placings, but with a larger wider play area accessible to the player, and some buildings and elements set to a larger scale. The Strip was not yet split up at this point, Vault 21 and the NCR embassy have already been moved to their final locations, and The Tops' second entrance is still accessible. It's notable also that the original StripWorld has the final game unique doors placed on all its casinos.

Freeside#

Freeside has now been split into three as per the final game. The entire NPC spawning system is already gutted and would not return. Betsy and Kevin Hargrove are still present inside the North gate here, but Dunch has been replaced with Genaro.
