This is a sub-page of Pizza Tower/Unused Graphics.
As they're only playable in two levels, don't use transformations, and were added relatively late in the game's development (sometime between April 17 and July 7, 2021), Gustavo and Brick have much fewer unused graphics compared to the other playable characters.
Unused Gustavo and Brick Animations#
Enemy Eating#
In the Rework Build, Gustavo and Brick's attack was a variant of Peppino's grab in which Brick ate an enemy and could either swallow them or spit them out, a la Yoshi's Island. The spit animation was reused for their parry.
spr_player_ratmounttumble#
Gustao and Brick sliding down a slope. Gustavo and Brick could slide down slopes in the Rework build, but this sprite goes unused. "Tumble" is also used in the filenames for characters entering the ball transformation by crouching on slopes, a mechanic removed before the Rework Build, so this sprite may have been used when that feature was still in the game.
Wall Climbing#
Gustavo and Brick originally climbed up walls, like Peppino, instead of bouncing off them. The animation for their wall climb seems to be a placeholder, as it's just their regular walk animation rotated 90 degrees.
Downward Launch#
In the Rework and Eggplant builds, Gustavo and Brick's double jump works differently - Gustavo jumps off of Brick, who's launched downward and can break metal blocks. The sprite of Brick being launched was rotated and used for the Brick projectile Gustavo shoots in War.
Wall Bump#
The only unused sprite for Gustavo alone is his sprite for bumping into a wall at Mach 3. It's unclear as to why this is unused.
Gustavo (NPC)#
Before the days of modern Pizza Tower, Gustavo was created for the spin-off Pizza Massacre and was only to appear as an NPC in the main game.
Strongcold Miniboss#
Gustavo made his first appearance in Strongcold from Peppino’s Xmas Break, where he was one of the characters who would pop out of the presents during the Noise boss fight. As evidenced by his hurt sprite, these are based on Gustavo's design from Pizza Massacre, in which he had a larger body and wore a white T-shirt instead of a brown shirt and white apron.
The hurt sprite would later see use as a placeholder for the object that switches Peppino to Gustavo and Brick in the Rework build, before the finalized sign graphic was introduced in the Eggplant build.
GOLF Background#
Gustavo was planned to appear in GOLF as a background decoration, sitting on a bar stool with his back facing the screen. These sprites also use his old design.
Beach and Forest Leftovers#
Gustavo first appeared with his modern design in the Beach and Forest version of Gnome Forest, which was designed around Gustavo having Peppino deliver pizzas in return for Toppins. If the player failed to deliver the pizza, they would be driven back to Gustavo's and he would beat the spaghetti out of Peppino. According to Sertif, this mechanic was phased out in favor of a playable Gustavo by the time of the Rework build because the gameplay loop conflicted with the more speed-oriented direction the game began to take around the time of the April 2021 Patreon build, and it was difficult retain it while redesigning Gnome Forest in the style of the other levels.

spr_gustavo_name#
A sprite of Gustavo's name. This was intended to be used as a name for the NPC dialogue boxes introduced in the Rework build, and was used for a test Gustavo NPC in rm_testing in the Rework and Eggplant Builds, though that's the only instance of it ever being used. Notably, this is the only name graphic that exists, implying that the Rework build's hub and the NPC system created for it were scrapped before more were created.
