Mortal Kombat 3 (Game Boy)

Mortal Kombat 3 is the point where the handheld ports had to strip a lot of content out of the game.

Friendship#

Friendships, one of the finisher types in the original arcade game, were planned to be included in the game. The coding, inputs, and finisher message are present still in the ROM; however, the inputs were removed from the movelists of all characters. As an example, you can use Game Genie code 235-60B-6E2 to replace Sindel's Babality (Towards, Towards, Towards, Up) with her Friendship. Unfortunately, no sprites remain, with the only effect being the opponent returning to their idle animation. Additionally, some of the inputs for Friendships overlap with other (actually used) inputs, which would prevent Friendships from being used even if they were added to the moves list- Sindel, for example, has her Friendship input set at $008561 in the ROM as Towards, Towards, Towards, Towards, Towards, Up, which overlaps with her Babality input (as listed above).

Unused Sprites#

Four sprites for Shao Kahn exist that aren't seen in normal gameplay. From left to right: his MK3 fireball move (the final game uses his MKII fireball move, where he crouches and tosses the blast like a baseball), getting up from a fall, a throw frame (unused in the arcade version and not seen until Mortal Kombat Trilogy), and a jumping frame (for jumping straight up).

A secondary falling frame for Sheeva is included.

All the characters except Sonya have pre-jump sprites.
