Unused Smaller Playfield Mode#

Pyoro

Pyoro 2

There is a field that, when set to 0, triggers the smaller playfield (160x144 pixels) that was used in the "Pyoro" and "Pyoro 2" minigames from WarioWare Inc.

The player can never access this because this field is hardcoded to always be set to 1, which uses the extended DSi playfield (240x176 pixels). This mode is fully functional i.e. Pyoro, the beans, the angels (Tenshi) and other gameplay elements are confined to this small area. The new background elements that appear at 11000 and 12000 points in this DSi port that weren't implemented in the 2003 GBA minigame do not appear in this unused mode either.

This mode uses the otherwise unused file found at Graphics.NARC/Pyoro/frame16x16.zsc which includes this smaller tilemap. The regular used one is found at Graphics.NARC/Pyoro/frame32x24.szc.

To enable this mode, set the byte at the following ROM addresses from 01 to 00:

American

Unused GBA Title Screen Leftover#

Pyoro

Pyoro 2

The Title screen from the GBA versions of Pyoro and Pyoro 2 remain in this game's code, however they are inaccessible as the game skips over this Title screen state.

The files at Graphics.NARC/Pyoro/kyoro_title.zcg and Graphics.NARC/Pyoro/kyoro_title.szc include the tiles and the tilemap layout which are read in this screen. kyoro_title.zcg only contains empty tiles meaning the Pyoro logo and turquoise tiles are no longer available - this is why the background that would have been placed behind title screen is visible instead. kyoro_title.zsc, however, has its tilemap intact. The palette lines (0xa and 0xb) that are used for this title screen are still available in kyoro.zcl which contains palette data shared by the other sprites in the main game.

The 2 graphic is visible for Pyoro 2 and was not removed with the other title screen graphic elements because it was an OAM sprite in WarioWare Inc. instead of part of the VRAM background. It is instead stored with the rest of the OAM sprites in kyoro.zcg. Interestingly, it does not have the correct palette applied here.

The music track that plays, TWL_GYORO_BMG_TITTLE, is the title screen theme that plays in the Pyoro and Pyoro 2 minigames (and other minigames) in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!.

To enable this title screen, set the byte at the following ROM addresses from 02 to 00:

Japanese

American

European

Chinese

Korean

Obscured Graphics#

With Border

Without Border

Unlike the "Pyoro" and "Pyoro 2" minigames in WarioWare Inc., this version has a few background elements obscured by the white border. They are:

  • 2 inaccessible (but otherwise walkable) grey blocks.
  • 2 hills with different heights.
  • 2 small stars and 1 big star.

Unused Audio#

TWL_GYORO_BMG_TITTLE#

This track plays in the GBA title screen leftover, but is otherwise unused.

Unused Graphics#

This unused Dummy sprite is likely used as a test and can be found in Graphics.NARC/Pyoro/kyoro.zcg in all versions.

An early test placeholder of the Japanese menu screen.

The "Pyoro" logo was completely different with the background being plain white.

The buttons at the bottom are also noticeably different and have their orders altered. The Manuel button was called マニュアル instead of せつめいしよ, and the Settings button was called 設定 instead of せつてい.

This "2" sprite was used in the GBA title screen leftover but cannot be seen otherwise.

An animation for a Devil counterpart to the angel (Tenshi) is implemented but never used, just like in WarioWare Inc. Its ID is 0xb.

An unused sprite that looks to be a black leafless bean with an unknown purpose.

An unused sprite that looks to be a brown seed with an unknown purpose.

iQue Region Locking#

The Chinese version has an "Only for iQue DS" graphic.

This is odd, because there was no way to install Chinese DSiWare on a non-iQue DSi, as the DSi Shop was region-locked. The only way to display this screen is by installing the game on a modified or devconsole DSi or 3DS from any other region.

Future iQue DSiWare didn't implement this screen.
