In "TEXTS_BASIC.dat" and "english.txt" files, there are text strings suggesting that the tutorial screens were supposed to have text aside of, or maybe even instead of images. Notably, these strings mention which bird is effective against which material, with Matilda ("green" strings refer to Matilda) being described as "Fat & Lazy", and reveal the names of abilities and birds' original names.
Early Mighty Eagle#
Before Mighty Eagle was added to the game in version 1.5.0, there was an early version of the Eagle that was found in versions 1.4.0-1.4.1 that was going to work a lot differently. This early version shows that the Eagle was originally going to fall straight down onto wherever the bait initially lands, whereas the finalized version has the Eagle swoop in.
Sprites#
Bait#
Version 1.4.0 features a much different sprite for the Eagle bait, where it was going to look like a mouse. In version 1.4.1, this was changed to early rendition of the sardine can that's slightly slanted.

Eagle#
Unlike the Bait, Mighty Eagle himself didn't change all that much, design-wise. In version 1.4.0, his sprite is completely unobscured. In version 1.4.1, a blur effect similar to that of Chuck's ability sprite was appiled to the Eagle's sprite. The finalized version seems to use a darkened version of 1.4.1's sprite.

Sounds used for the bait back when it was originally a mouse. Weirdly, while these sounds were removed in mobile versions after the Eagle was finalized, they remained in PC versions. |

Oddities#
Green Matilda#
All of Matilda's sprites are labeled as "BIRD_GREEN" in the INGAME_BIRDS_1 sprite sheet. The aforementioned "TEXTS_BASIC.dat" and "english.txt" files also has text strings calling Matilda green. This is a remnant of early development as concept art for a bird in an ugly green color exists alongside the violet-colored bird that was intended to use the violet feathers that were also leftover in the aforementioned sprite sheet.
Blues and Matilda's Swapped Ability Sounds#
In-game, The ability sounds for The Blues and Matilda are swapped. "special egg.wav" is used for The Blues' ability, while "special group.wav" is used for Matilda's ability.
In the build seen in the In-game Trailer, the Blues use the correct ability sound, so it's likely that this was a decision made late in development. This oddity was also fixed in Flash-based webgames such as Friends.
Red's Blinking and Flying Sprites#
Red uses the same sprite for his blinking and flying sprites, despite the other birds using two separate sprites for their blinking and flying state.
Interestingly, the expression chart sent out to licensees during 2010-2011 contains a unique blink sprite, and his flying sprite is not present.
Mighty Eagle's Radial Sprite#
Mighty Eagle has a spinning sprite of sorts stored in the INGAME_BIRDS_2 sheet, which is supposed to display after he collides with the ground. While this sprite displayed in earlier versions, it doesn't in later versions due to a bug.
Differently Pitched Audio in PC/Wii U Versions#
In PC versions, the game targets a sample rate of 44100hz for audio, which means any audio files that aren't stored at that sample rate will end up being played at a different pitch in-game. The most notable audio to be affected by this are Bubbles' sound effects (which all have a sample rate of 48000hz) and Birdday Party's ambience (which has a sample rate of 32000hz).

Internal Project Name#
The internal name of the game is Linnut, roughly "Birds" in Finnish according to the game executable build path in older versions1234, with or without Rovio. The sound file names for the cutscenes5 could also suggest this translation.
