Revisional Differences

This is a sub-page of Angry Birds/Version Differences.

To do:

  • Find and check every version. There is unused or early content that were removed in the transition between different versions.
  • Should the retina graphics be documented here too? (Maybe make a section for Angry Birds HD that documents the retina graphics?)
  • There's more stuff that needs to be documented here:
    • The level end screens being updated to the Rio ones.
    • The OnomatoShark font in older versions being replaced with the AngryBirds font.
    • Revised button graphics.
    • Power-Up icon changes.
      • And additionally, Super Seeds being changed into Power Potion.

Title Theme#

In version 3.3.0, the game's main theme was replaced with Angry Birds Trilogy's main theme to celebrate the release of the episode "Red's Mighty Feathers". Version 4.0.0 would later revert the main theme back to the original track.

Sprites#

The Birds#

Just like the cutscenes, the birds got a sprite change in the same update to appear similarly to how they look in Rio. Some sprites still remain the same.

  • All of the birds' post-collision and some ability sprites got changed.
  • Red and the Blues' post-collision sprite was the only sprite changed about them.
  • Chuck's squawking idle and post-collision were changed to the Chrome ones.
  • All of Matilda's sprites were changed to her Chrome sprites, in which gives her an angry expression.
  • Hal's sprites were also changed to his Chrome design.
  • Terence remains the same.

The Pigs#

The pigs' in-game sprites were changed for Red's Mighty Feathers in v3.2.0, later included in Short Fuse, and then changed for every episode after v4.1.0.

  • The pigs are facing left now.
  • Their eyes were made slightly bigger.
  • Their lips (except for King Pig's) were removed.
  • The inside of their ears was made lighter.
  • Corporal Pig now looks the same as the large, medium, and small pigs.
  • Corporal Pig's helmet is more detailed.
  • Foreman Pig's eyebrows were colored orange like his moustache.
  • King Pig's snout was made slightly bigger, his eyes were lower down, and his crown has an orange outline.

Poached Eggs Theme 1-3 Backgrounds#

The first three themes for Poached Eggs were given a revision that modified colors a bit and added foreground sprites.

  • The blades of grass for Themes 1 & 2 were adjusted to be a lighter color.
  • Taller grass, ferns, cacti and rocks were added in Theme 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Sounds#

Bomb's Sounds#

Bomb's unused select sound from the In-game Trailer is found nowhere in any version of the game, not even v1.0. For whatever reason, it was found in the files of Angry Birds Arcade.

In-Game Trailer

1.0

Bomb's flying sound from the in-game trailer was also originally unused, but would eventually be used in 7.1.0 and onward for an unknown reason.

Hal's Sounds#

Hal's sound effects when he's in-game weren't changed until much later into the game's life.

1.3.0 - 7.0.0

7.1.0

Egg Defender Alert Sound#

For unknown reasons, the sound file "alarm_egg_stolen_01", which is one of the sounds that plays when a pig manages to take the egg in the Egg Defender levels, was changed to an abrupt musical sting. Originally, the sound was one of the pigs' laughing sounds from Bad Piggies.

Levels#

Poached Eggs 1-5#

To do:

  • Provide better screenshots if possible.

1.0 - 1.5.3

1.6.0

Level 1-5 of Poached Eggs was slightly altered to have two wood beams replaced with glass beams. This change was made to presumably made to make three-starring the level easier to do.

Poached Eggs 2-21#

To do:

  • Provide better screenshots if possible.

1.0

1.1.0 - Current

Level 2-21 of Poached Eggs was slightly changed, as the top circular wood block was replaced by a square one of similar size. It is unknown why the change was even made.

Golden Eggs Level 1#

1.2.1 - 5.0.1

5.1.0 - Current

v.5.1.0 updated the first Golden Eggs level to have thicker outer walls, an extra red ball placed next to the top rightmost pig, and a gap in between where the wooden triangle block and the centermost TNT block are placed.

Misc.#

App Icon#

Throughout the game's history, the app icon went through many revamps and revisions. This sections documents the icons from both the original iPhone version and the HD versions for iPad.

To do:
There's still more to add here.

iPhone#

1.0 - 1.2.1

1.3.0 - 1.3.1

1.3.2 - 3.0.0

3.1.0 - 3.1.2

3.2.0 - 4.2.0

4.3.1 - 4.3.2

4.3.5 - 6.0.1

  • The original icon was simple enough. It had very angry Red in the center of cartoonish-looking blue sky with white clouds in the bottom corners of the icon. This app icon would last in the game's lifespan for a long time.
  • In version 1.3.0, the icon was slightly altered to include a banner for the short-lived Crystal SDK in the bottom left. This icon was later reverted back to the original 1.0 one after version 1.3.1.
  • Version 3.1.0 would slightly alter the icon again to include a Rovio logo banner. Red is also slightly bigger in this icon as well. This icon would last until version 3.1.2.
  • Version 3.2.0 would update the app icon to use a more modern appearance, making Red use his updated design and removing the clouds in the background. The Rovio banner from the 3.1.0 icon is still present here.
  • In version 4.3.1, as part of a partnership between Apple and (RED) to bring awareness to and help fight AIDS, Rovio would update the app icon to use Red's face on a dark red background, with the (RED) logo in the top right. After version 4.3.2, the icon would reverted back to the 3.2.0 one.

Splash Screens#

Much like the app icon, the splash screen would also go through many updates throughout the game's history.

1.0 - 1.3.4

1.4.0 - 1.5.0

1.5.1 - 1.6.3

2.0.0 - 6.0.1

6.0.6

6.1.0 - 7.4.0

7.5.0 - 8.0.3

  • The original splash screen that existed since the very first version of the game all the way up to version 1.3.4 is one of the more distinct ones, featuring a unknown grey bird (presumably intended to be Bomb) and a much different design for Red. King Pig is also present in this splash screen, making this the only time he's ever appeared in the game's splash screen.
  • In 1.4.0, would undergo a major overhaul that goes for a more realistic design. This splash screen depicts Red bursting through a stone castle, causing pigs and debris to go flying everywhere. Bomb, Matilda, one of the Blues and Chuck are also present here.
  • 1.5.1 would slightly update the 1.4.0 splash screen by changing the stone castles to structures made out of multiple materials, similar to the ones seen in-game and update the game's logo to the 2011-2015 version. The designs of the pigs would also designs altered in this splash screen.
  • 2.0.0 would get another overhaul, which completely drops the realistic approach for an art style more akin to the actual game. This one depicts Red, Chuck and Bomb destroying the Pig's structure in a canyon-like setting. The Eggs also make their first appearance in the splash screen.
  • In 6.0.6, to celebrate the release of The Angry Birds Movie in 2016, the splash screen got yet another overhaul, this time by updating the birds and pigs to look like their designs in the movie.
  • 6.1.0 would later make some adjustments to 6.0.6's splash screen, such as updating the game's logo to the modern one, rearranging the places of the characters and background debris, and also adding the movie version of the Mighty Eagle to the background.
  • And finally, version 7.5.0 and onwards would revert the splash screen back to the 2.0.0 one, with the only notable difference being the updated modern logo seen in 6.1.0's splash screen.

1.0 - 1.4.2

1.5.0 - 1.6.3

2.0.0 - 6.0.6

6.1.0 - Current

  • The original logo that was on the main menu on 1.0 up to 1.4.2 had the Feast of Flesh font, white text with a yellow outline, and four blue feathers on both sides of the logo.
  • The logo would be changed on 1.5.0 to the updated one made by John Roshell. The logo had a slightly transparent outline with a faint indigo shadow around the letters.
  • 2.0.0 dropped that and just stuck with the basic black outline and white text.
  • 6.1.0 uses the simplistic logo that was introduced in Angry Birds 2.

Cutscenes#

The cutscenes were changed around the same time Birdday Party was added. The original cutscenes featured a painted/realistic look for the cutscenes, excluding the birds and pigs. The intro cutscenes also infamously uses a beta design for Chuck, suggesting the Poached Eggs intro cutscene was made while the birds' designs were being finalized. Curiously every intro cutscene featured this beta design (except for The Big Setup) even after Chuck's design was finalized. The current cutscenes changed how they look entirely making it fit with the art style of the birds and pigs. The current cutscenes also use the Chrome designs for both the birds and pigs, even using Chuck's final design.
