This is a sub-page of Angry Birds.
Birds#
Cheer Sprites#
Sprites of Red, The Blues, Chuck, Bomb, Matilda, Hal and Terence cheering that were left in the spritesheets of versions 4.3.5 - 5.0.1. While it's unknown what these would've really been used for, some code in blocks.lua calls these sprites for a "spriteBurp" variable for some strange reason.
Red#
Two sprites of Red found in the sprite sheet "INGAME_SEING_RED_CHARACTER" in v3.3.0. The first sprite seems to be based on his irate expression from the game's original icon. The second is a sprite of Red completely drenched in water.
Weird-looking sprites of Red under the effects of the potions seen in Short Fuse, found in the sprite sheets of the Windows Phone version of 3.3.0. Strangely, the sprites of Red under the effects of the splitting potion would reappear in the files of the Unity remake, once again going unused.
Additionally, VialEffects.lua contains an unused function for the potions to affect the birds, so these sprites would've likely been used for that before the idea was scrapped during Short Fuse's development.
Shockwave Bomb#
Frames intended for Shockwave Bomb's ability animation, found in the "INGAME_BIRDS_2" sprite sheet.
The following content may induce seizures and has been hidden by default. Click to reveal: |

The final game only uses the sixth frame and Shockwave Bomb's idle sprite, "BIRD_GREY_BLUE", for the ability animation. While it's unknown why the other frames go unused, it's possible that it could've been done to reduce the risk of epilepsy or seizures.
Early, rougher-looking versions of the second and third frames are also present in the same sprite sheet.
Pigs#
Scuba Diver Pigs#
Minion Pigs wearing scuba-diving gear, both in medium and large sizes, found in v3.3.0's "INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS" sheet. Strangely, the sprite names for these pigs seem to have been swapped, with the large pig being labeled as "SCUBA_DIVING_PIG_MED" and vise-versa.
Snorkel Pigs#
Minion Pigs wearing snorkelers in a variety of sizes, also found in v3.3.0's "INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS" sheet.
Diving Bell Pigs#
Minion Pigs wearing diving bell helmets in a variety of sizes, also found in v3.3.0's "INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS" sheet. Interestingly, the design for these pigs use the older design from before the release of Angry Birds Chrome, indicating they were possibly made earlier.
Cardboard Pigs#
Cardboard cutout variations of the Minion Pigs in a variety of sizes, found in the "INGAME_PIGS_NEW_SHEET_1" sprite sheet in v4.1.0 and onwards. According to their filenames, it seems they were going to be used in the Power-Up University levels. However, since the pigs appear as their normal selves in those levels, these cardboard cutouts go unused.

A platform resembling a theater found in v1.0. In later versions of the game, only a cropped version of this platform remains in the spritesheets for the blocks.

Another platform of some kind found in v1.0. Much like the theater platform, only a cropped version remains in later versions.
A shooting platform with a red and white checkered pattern that also first appeared in v1.0. While unused in the original Angry Birds, this platform would later end up being used in later versions of Angry Birds Seasons.
Alternate Block Variants#
|
|
To do: |
In earlier PC versions of the game, a sprite sheet labelled "INGAME_BLOCKS_2" is present in the files. Unlike later builds, this sheet contains various alternate designs for the stone, wood, and glass blocks. Most of their degradation sprites however either only have one unique sprite, and/or use the original block textures as placeholder graphics.
Screenshots from the old iTunes page for the Mac version show that these sprites were planned for a feature that would've randomized the block textures, of which was never implemented in the game.
Glass Blocks#
Wood Blocks#
Stone Blocks#
Trick Or Treat Blocks#
Blocks from the Angry Birds Seasons episode, Trick or Treat, found in v1.4.4's "INGAME_BLOCKS_1" sheet.
Presumably left in for when Trick Or Treat was planned to be the fifth episode of Classic, before it was moved over to Seasons (which around the time this update came out, was known as Angry Birds Halloween). These sprites were later removed in v1.5.0.
A couple early assets for Trick or Treat can also be found in earlier PC versions as well. The eyeholes on the pumpkin mask block are noticeably smaller here.
Friends 2012 Winter Tournament Blocks#
Leftover graphics for some blocks intended for the 2012 Winter Tournament in Angry Birds Friends, found in the files of the HD version of 3.0.0. Weirdly, the graphics for the sled and the tiny cap are clipping into each other's sprites, due to how close they are together in the sprite sheet.
"ABLAND" Blocks#
The HD version of 3.0.0 also contains a sprite sheet called "BLOCKS_ABLAND_BLOCKS_1", which has graphics that were presumably meant for an amusement park-themed episode that never made it into the game, according to the sheet's filename.
Sprites for a blue horse spring rider. The base for it is the only block from this sprite sheet that has data remaining in the game's code.
Two large hats presumably meant to be worn by the pigs. Smaller variants of these hats can be seen being worn by the birds in some levels of the Birdday Party episode.
Various food items consisting of a candy apple, cotton candy, an ice cream cone, an orange popsicle, a bag of popcorn, and a hot dog.
Two water balloons, both blue and green respectively.
Red's Mighty Feathers Blocks#
General#
A jet engine part of some kind. This jet engine was also present in early prototypes for Bad Piggies, as well as the cancelled level editor webgame, Bad Piggies Build.
A golden balloon with pig ears and a snout, similar to the pig balloons prominently seen in Danger Above. This block would remain unused for a long time until it was eventually used in the first level of the episode Piggy Farm.
A smaller version of the previously mentioned golden balloon, found in the Windows Phone version of 3.1.0 and the PC_retina folder in version 3.3.3.
Sprites for an unused plunger block. The sprite "PLUNGER_2" also appears in a Short Fuse sprite sheet, under the name "PLUNGER".
Graphics for a flag made out of a sock and a stick. Strangely, blocks.lua has data for the stick and the first sock, while the other two socks don't.
Parts for a picnic basket block.
The triple balloon object from Bad Piggies. While not used in any proper levels, it does appear in some unused vehicles.
Sprites for the bottle rocket parts seen in Bad Piggies, found in the Windows Phone version of 3.1.0 and the PC_retina folder in version 3.3.3. These were removed in later versions after this, probably due to the fact that they work roughly the same as the rocket parts.
INGAME_SEING_RED_OBJECTS#
Various cave-related objects under the same "SEING_RED" handle as the unused scuba-diver pigs, likely meant for Red's Mighty Feathers. These objects can also be seen in concept art by Jessica Sundell.

Dry and wet moss blocks in rectangular, circular, and square form.
Parts for a mushroom block, head and base respectively.
Duplicate sprites of the crystal blocks commonly seen in the Mine and Dine episode.
A water lily.
Short Fuse Blocks#
Potions#
Found in the files of the China and WinPhone versions of 3.3.0 are several early potions intended for Short Fuse, a majority of which ended up never making the final cut. The following included are:
- A red potion in a round flask, presumably made to mimic either Red or Terence.
- A yellow potion, presumably made to mimic Chuck's ability judging by the triangular shape of the flask.
- A completely black potion with a white skull printed on it, presumably an explosive potion made to mimic Bomb's normal ability. An earlier version of this potion without the skull printed on it can be seen in some concept art created by Jessica Sundell.
- A white potion in an egg-shaped flask, seemingly based on Matilda's ability.
- A green potion in a flask shaped like a pig.
- A tan and pink flask which resembles the donut block decoration that's seen in a few levels.
- An early version of the orange potion which is in a taller flask, compared to the completely round bottle in the finalized version.
Miscellaneous#
An outhouse found in versions 1.0 - 1.3.4. It was later removed in v1.4.0.
Two poles, colored red and yellow respectively. These poles were used in earlier versions of Danger Above 7-2, but were removed from the level in later revisions.
A blue puzzle piece. It's unknown what this would've been used for.
Particles#
Violet Feathers#
Present since the first version of the game are three unused violet-colored feathers located in the "INGAME_BIRDS_1" spritesheet. These were intended to be used a scrapped violet bird of which is presumed to be an earlier version of Terence. In Angry Birds Space, these feathers were repurposed for Lazer Bird.
Water Particles#
Some water particles found in the sprite sheet "INGAME_SEING_RED_CHARACTER" in v3.3.0.
King Pig Mode Scores#
Score graphics found in the "MATTEL_INGAME_INGAME_1" sheet, most likely intended for the King Pig mode. A dark green 10000 score intended for the playable pigs, and a white 5000 score intended for the egg enemies.
Since none of the minigames for the Golden King Pig use the score system in levels, these go completely unused. These graphics also appear in the "MATTEL_ELEMENTS_1" sheet that was found in a 2.2.0 prototype.
King Pig Bubble Particles#
Also present in the "MATTEL_INGAME_INGAME_1" sheet are two unusual bubble particles. It's unknown what these would've been used for.
Bomb's Sonic Boom#
A sonic boom effect labeled as "BLACK_BIRD_SONICBOOM", found in the INGAME_BLOCKS_1 sprite sheet. It's possible that this could've been for an earlier version of Shockwave Bomb.
ChuckSpeed Particle Trails#
Present in versions 4.1.0 - 5.0.0 are three sprites of a blurred Chuck, intended to be used as a particle trail for the unused ChuckSpeed script that was found in the prototyping folder.
Bird Ability Icons#
Found in the files of v1.0 as well as the in-game trailer for the game are several ability icons, which appear in the bottom right of the screen in-game when a bird has been launched and hasn't used its ability. The icon disappears when the bird hits something or said ability is used.
Rewards#
The Big Setup#
An early version of the reward you get for beating The Big Setup found in version 1.3.4. This early version has darker shading, and the brim only extends out the front. The final version has lighter shading, and the brim goes around the whole hat.

Other#
Egg Bomb#
Sprites for a scrapped power-up in Angry Birds Friends managed to find their way into the original game around when the Surf and Turf episode was added. It's likely that this power-up was an earlier iteration of the TNT Drop and Boombox power-ups seen in later versions of Friends and versions starting with 3.3.0 of Seasons.
Level Editor Graphics#
These assets only appear in the game's built-in level editor, so they normally go unseen in the game since the editor is disabled by default.
A pair of arrows, red and green respectively, which are used as the origin point of a level. When starting to make a new level, the slingshot's position is set to the position of this sprite by default.
In versions of the game before 2.0.0, texture folders for builds of the game on lower-res devices (or also modern platforms at the time) use a unique second menu texture atlas, featuring editor textures strangely never seen in other resolutions. The only possible reasons for them would be Rovio attempting to de-internalize the editor for public use and/or remnants of it being slightly more intuitive internally. Code for loading them stayed even for the final release of the game. They are referenced by the following builds:
Amazon v1.6.1-v2.0.2
Google Play v1.3.5 + Rev 2 - 8.0.3
Samsung Apps Store v1.6.2
Bada v1.6.3
Blackberry 10 (HD) v1.0.3-v1.6.3
MacOS v1.0.1-v2.0.2
PC v1.0.0-v2.0.2 (+ Hotfix)
PSP (+ Minis)
Symbian Lite v1.2.0
Notably, the sprite for Blue Bird seen on some of these graphics seems to be an earlier version of his final design.
Flower graphics that are labeled in a similar way to the trail sprites that the birds leave behind while flying. In the level editor, these are used to display joints on blocks.
