This is a sub-page of Proto:Pizza Tower/Rework.

This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

To do:

  • Check if the remaining bosses have any differences between April 2021 and this build.
  • Compare the Pizzaface/Pizzahead remnants in Eggplant to Rework, as well as the Rework fight to obj_pizzafacebossOLD, obj_pizzafaceboss_p2OLD, and obj_pizzafaceboss_p3OLD in the final.

Pizzaface / Pizzahead#

Perhaps the most interesting piece of content in this build is a very early version of the final boss fight against Pizzaface / Pizzahead. This content was wiped from the April 2021 and Eggplant Patreon builds to prevent spoilers, but it's still present in Rework due to its status as a private playtesting build. Pizzahead's sprites are sketches cropped from concept art as placeholders, as proper spritework had yet to be created.

Phase 1#

Rework

Octobe22 onward

Pizzaface doesn't have any boss-specific animations yet, and is still using his Boss Build-era design.

At this point, the fight appears to be based on the original concept art, with attacks based on Pizzaface's facial features:

  • Pizzaface levitates left and right above the arena, occasionally swooping down in an attempt to damage the player. When he swoops, the player can parry to deal damage.
  • Pizzaface will drop to the middle of the arena for a projectile attack in which his eyes fall out; they bounce up and down and disappear upon contact with a wall.
  • Pizzaface will attempt to suck up the player with his nose; the player will be pulled towards him and damaged if they get caught in the attack.
  • Pizzaface will drop straight down and unroll a side of his mustache to jab the player; this can be avoided with a jump.
  • As Pizzaface takes damage, his, well, face falls apart, with his eyes, nose, mouth, and eyebrows/mustache becoming objects the player can throw at him to deal damage. He will stop using an attack once he loses the corresponding facial feature.

All of the objects based on Pizzaface's facial features use placeholder graphics (with the exception of his mouth, which is missing graphics altogether). His eyes use the Weenie's idle graphics and his nose uses a mushroom topping sprite. The only unique placeholder is his mustache/eyebrows, which was cropped from his existing sprites:

A stretched version of this graphic is used for the mustache attack.

Phase 2#

The player does not receive a revolver, unlike the final game, but can deal damage to Pizzahead at any time.

Pizzahead inside Pizzaface. Unlike the final, he's actively controlling Pizzaface instead of sitting on a toilet.

Pizzahead exiting the exploding Pizzaface. The sketch depicts him actively jumping out of Pizzahead, while the final sprite depicts him being ejected and launched in the air.

Pizzahead grabbing and tossing the HUD. The boss seems to have entered development when the old HUD, featuring just the face of the character you're playing as on the left side of the screen, was still in place, as the old idle HUD animation is used for this attack as a placeholder. The final sprites were updated to reflect the modern TV HUD introduced in the April 2021 build.

The following attacks appear in Rework but not in the final, and never had proper spritework created for them.

Phase 3#

Originally, Phase 3 was going to play out differently; instead of pulling up the previous bosses for rematches, Pizzahead would've gone insane and frenetically attacked Peppino without any cartoonish props. In Rework, Pizzahead's only implemented Phase 3 attack is the big kick, which he uses over and over; the player must duck to avoid it while using the time in between attacks to deal damage. His defeat animation is simply his running sketch.

While sketches for the rest of this phase and proper spritework for his idle were created, this phase was completely reworked in the final game because McPig felt it shifted the power dynamic, would be out of character for Pizzahead (who was supposed to be nothing more than a clown), and that Peppino already was the angry one.
