Characters#
Strangely, they are all used....in unused test maps in the game's later ports.
Amy (c303000)#
This portrait is never used, not even in the flashback scene of how Jibanyan became a Yo-kai as he recites it instead. It would be later used in Yo-kai Watch 2.
Male Police Officer (c338000)#
Though they are in the game, their talk portrait never shows up.
Female Police Officer (c339000)#
Though they also appear in the game, their talk portrait also never shows up.
Station Staff c3400000#
Unused for the same reason above, except they have unique expressions likely intended for their minor role in What Dad Forgot chapter.
HUD#
test_tlp.xi#
data/event/ev_pic
This image named test_tlp.xi translates to "After School". "tlp" is likely short for "telop", a term used for signifying overlay text. It's unknown if it was intended as generic cutscene timeframe, or intended as a "school-based" time system, hence why Springdale Elementary School was the most complete shown out of prerelease media.
Anti-Piracy Warning Screen#
The anti-piracy warning screen (cesa_a.xi) that was used in the Japanese version has an unused, translated English equivalent. It was removed in the European version files.

"Endless Summer" Chapter#
|
|
To do: |
data/menu/ev_pic
An unused chapter text marked as ep12.xi, intended to take place in the post-game, as it comes after the "Farewell, Yo-kai" chapter.
Unlike most graphics, they were oddly translated into other languages. It was probably scrapped because there is no real objective after the game is finished. The post-story chapter would eventually be used in Yo-kai Watch 3.

Soultimate Placeholders#
|
|
To do: |
Two placeholder Soultimate Attack title graphics, which are slashed-out copies of Jibanyan's Paws of Fury (ひゃくれつ肉球) Soultimate.
They have numbers that correspond to Yo-kai which have now-deleted entries, but the overall internal Yo-kai order does give some clues;
- y856000 comes after y854000, which is Slimamander, sandwiched in between y861000 which is the bottom part of Slimamander. The text corresponding to the used entry (y854000) says "Slimamander (Revision)", implying that the boss went through a change during development.
- y931000 is between y927000 and y941000, which goes with Dr. Maddiman and McKraken respectively. There may have planned to be another boss in between the two.

Other Legendary Yo-kai Medal Frames#
data/menu/img
There exists Legendary Yo-kai Medal frames for other Tribes, such as Charming, Shady, and Slippery. Legendary Yo-kai of those tribes would not appear until Yo-kai Watch 2, where those frames would receive a slightly different design.
Items#
Corocoro Coin#
An unused Crank-a-kai coin (item_235.xi), which judging from the design may have been intended for a Corocoro tie-in. No such distribution ever happened since then.
Placeholder Item Textures#
There exists item placeholder images from 309 to 512 (203 in total), which come after the "Beach Cleanup" and "Noko Hunt!" Quest-specific items.
Minimaps#
Leftover Early Uptown Springdale Map#
data/map/t101g00/t101g02.xi A leftover and early Uptown Springdale map can be found as t101g02.xi, which matches the layout of the World Hobby Fair Winter 13 build!

Below are the following differences;
- The overall map seems to be unfinished, if not tailored for the demo.
- Sidewalks didn't seem to be mapped.
- There's only one entrance that leads to another district, likely being the early Breezy Hills location seen in 2012 prerelease.
- Springdale Elementary School isn't present, instead being replaced by some houses.
- Bear's House is present at the bottom-left corner; it would later be moved to Blossom Heights.
- The Piggleston Bank was on the left side rather than on the right side.
- There was no flower shop.
- There are no apartments, parking lot, or riverbank view.
- There are two main roads at the bottom, one of them leading to a dead end and a bend to the main left road.
- Jungle Hunter wasn't present.
Alternate Mt. Wildwood Prologue Minimap#
An alternate version of the Mt. Wildwood minimap (t102g01n.xi) with limited accessible areas seen in the first chapter of the game, except set at night for some reason. Otherwise, the map is largely identical.
Placeholder Mt. Wildwood Minimap#
Stored with the other minimaps for Mount Wildwood is one rendered as a scale reference called t102g02. The night variant (t102g02n) is used in the Summer Festival cutscene version of the location, so the former may have been left in by accident.
Unused Night Maps#
For some reason, every interior is given a night variant of the minimap, even those that are inaccessible during the daytime! Springdale Hot Springs' nighttime minimap is used only during Timers & More Chapter.
In the case of Whatta Find, the shop that is only open during night has a daytime equivalent (t101i35).
Springdale Elementary#
Slightly different versions of Springdale Elementary's 2nd floor. The stairways leading down in the daytime version are shaded, which was removed from the final map. In the nighttime version, the scale next to the skeleton wasn't marked on the map.
Slightly different versions of Springdale Elementary's 3rd floor. The only differences are, once again, the shaded stairways and misplaced doors in the girls' bathroom.
Graphics in Sheets#
Some of the Japanese graphics remain untranslated in all other localizations unless stated.
Talk Portrait Numbers#
Numbered placeholders for different facial expressions are included with most of the character portraits. Different portraits contain different combinations of each numbered chunk.
Vs Battle#
An unused texture saying "Update" (こうしん koushin), found in comm_vs_d00 and comm_vs_d00_ko_f.
Yo-kai Binder HUD#
Found in the texture files for the Yo-kai Friends menu (mm_top_u00/000.xi and mm_top_u00_f/000.xi) is an unused and untranslated tab translating to (バインダー) "Binder", likely an earlier name for the Yo-kai Medallium (妖怪大辞典). Oddly, it was removed in the Korean version.
Unused Version Numbers#
Though the game only received two updates for each region (v1.1. and v1.2), there are textures for all numbers found in those updates and international versions only. This was likely for future-proofing.
gaiji.xa/000.xi#
An unused HOME Menu icon found in the HUD sheet for Requests and Favors.

To do: |
A BG image and arrow found within yw1_a.fa\data\event\ev_pic\test_cut.xa. When overlaying the arrow over the BG, the point of the arrow hits the center point on the BG precisely.
Demo Leftovers#
A top and bottom splash screen for the end of the demo. Interestingly, the Japanese graphic is completely different from the one used in the eShop demo and has a temporary Summer 2013 release date. It may have been a leftover from an earlier demo.

Exclusive to the European versions files is a PEGI 7 graphic (trial_rating.xi), which is never used in the European demo. It's the exact same graphic from the demo of Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, another game developed by Level-5.

Debug#
Two tiny debug fonts were left in the game alongside the standard game fonts. They are named "debug" and "debug-int" respectively.
