HUD Models

This is a sub-page of The Sims 2 (Windows)/Unused Models/Base Game.

Buy/Build Mode Tools#

There's interestingly an unused set of models associated with Buy/Build Mode tools before switching to 2D graphics, in a completely different style from the final game.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

wall_paintbrush_cursor_tslocator_gmdc

In The Sims when applying wallpaper, a paintbrush would be used as a cursor. It’s likely that the developers intended for this to be the case again.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

terrain_elevate_cursor_tslocator_gmdc

When modifying terrain in The Sims, a shovel would be used as a cursor, where it would be used for raising it. Like the paintbrush, it’s possible the developers intended for it to be the case again.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

terrain_elevate_error_cursor_tslocator_gmdc

This would have appeared when there was an error raising terrain.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

terrain_dig_cursor_tslocator_gmdc

This would have appeared when lowering terrain.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

terrain_dig_error_cursor_tslocator_gmdc

This would have appeared when there was an error lowering terrain.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

terrain_anchor_cursor_tslocator_gmdc

This would have appeared when leveling terrain.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

objecttoollocator_tslocator_gmdc

When placing an object in The Sims, a yellow box like the one shown would appear underneath the object to show how many tiles it would occupy. Evidently the developers originally wanted to use the same kind of box before ultimately scrapping it. Interestingly, it looks similar to the graphic used in The Sims for consoles.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Memories#

Memories that were meant to appear above Sims' heads.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

deathOfASpouseGold_tslocator_gmdc

This memory would have been given to a recently widowed Sim instead of the regular death memory from the final game.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

deathOfAChildGold_tslocator_gmdc

Bereaved Sim parents would gain this memory if their child passed on. It was likely scrapped due to its dark implications possibly raising the age rating of the game, although children can die in both the final game and The Sims.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstFailedJokeGold_tslocator_gmdc

Originally, Sims would have remembered telling a bad joke to another Sim. Nothing like this is present in the final game.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstGoodJokeGold_tslocator_gmdc

This is the counterpart to the Failed Joke memory. A sim would get this after telling a good joke for the first time.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

lostFirstBestFriendBronze_tslocator_gmdc

An old version of the "Lost (Sim) as a Best Friend" memory. This version had the faces look sad, while the final memory just uses the normal Best Friend symbol with a red X behind it.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

lostFirstFriendSilver_tslocator_gmdc

Another old version of "Lost (Sim) as a Best Friend". It is unknown why this memory and the version above are labeled "Bronze" and "Silver". Maybe Memories had different levels of intensity?

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstCrushGold_tslocator_gmdc

Originally, Sims would remember having a crush on another Sim. In the final game, Sims do not receive a memory after gaining the Crush flag with another Sim, there is only the similar Love memory.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstGetCaughtWithLoverGold_tslocator_gmdc

This is an older version of the "Got Caught Cheating" memory. The developers most likely changed it because they wanted a more clear representation of what happened to the Sim. It was used in the E3 2004 build.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstAffairGold_tslocator_gmdc

An old, scrapped model for the "Had an Affair" memory. The model is supposed to represent hotel room keys because of an old trope of someone getting a hotel room for themselves and their affair partner. Oddly, an illustration of this icon in full color appears in the "Grow Your Sims" minigame from the game's installer.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

breakUpGold_tslocator_gmdc

Old version of the "Broke Up with (Sim)" memory, depicting wedding rings broken apart. The final version shows joined wedding rings covered by a circle with a line through it.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

leftAtAltarGold_tslocator_gmdc

The file name makes this seem like an old version of of the "Left at the Altar" memory, but the model looks more fitting for a broken engagement. Could it have been used for both memories?

Sims3D/Objects03.package

breakUpSteady_tslocator_gmdc

Old version of the memory for when teen Sims break up with a steady partner. The broken heart is identical to the one used in the "Caught With Lover" memory also featured in this list.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

anniversaryPartyGold_tslocator_gmdc, weddingSilver_tslocator_gmdc, weddingGold_tslocator_gmdc

This model is very unique because it was used for three different memories! It was used for Golden Anniversaries (which have no 3D icon in the final), and what appears to be two different ranks of wedding parties. Many different icons were used for marriage, from wedding bells, a bride and groom, to eventually the joined rings we all know.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

overachiever_tslocator_gmdc

If a teen Sim earns an A+ in school and gets to the top level of a part-time job, they earn the "Was an Overachiever" memory. This shows that there was originally a 3D model associated with it.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstRepairObjectGold_tslocator_gmdc

Another unused memory. Sims would have gotten this after repairing a broken object for the first time. Oddly, an illustration of this icon in full color appears in the "Grow Your Sims" minigame from the game's installer.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstWinChessGold_tslocator_gmdc

A scrapped memory of winning a game of chess. Because of the file name, it would most likely have only been for the first time a Sim wins at chess.

There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstTeachInterestGold_tslocator_gmdc

This lightbulb icon was a memory of teaching something to another Sim. There are leftover text strings of teaching Skills to other Sims, which may point towards the idea.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

slumberPartyGold_tslocator_gmdc

This memory would have been given to a Sim who threw a successful slumber party. However, the option to throw one did not make it into the final game. It could have been cut due to issues with figuring out how the guests would sleep in the house. An illustration of this icon in full color appears in the "Grow Your Sims" minigame from the game's installer. Slumber parties would eventually make an appearance in The Sims 3: Generations.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

birthdayGold_tslocator_gmdc

This memory depicts a slice of birthday cake with a candle. This could have been an alternative to the regular party memories from the final game, appearing after Sims have a birthday party. Or, it could have been used instead of the hourglass model from the "Grew Up Well" and "Grew Up Badly" memories. Oddly, an illustration of this icon in full color appears in the "Grow Your Sims" minigame from the game's installer.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstReadToGold_tslocator_gmdc

This memory of an open book would have likely appeared after reading to another Sim, possibly a toddler or child, for the first time. Oddly, an illustration of this icon in full color appears in the "Grow Your Sims" minigame from the game's installer.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstWinFightGold_tslocator_gmdc

This memory shows an old design for the Fight icon. In the final game, no icon appears when a Sim wins a fight for the first time.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstServeGoodFoodGold_tslocator_gmdc

A simple frying pan. It would have appeared when a Sim serves a good meal for the first time, judging by the name. A similar memory with no associated model ("Learned How To Make X") appears in the final game, but the icon is a spatula.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstBurnGoodFoodGold_tslocator_gmdc

A negative counterpart to the memory above. It would have appeared when a sim burns a good meal for the first time.
A texture for the fire was found, but not for the pan.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

fireGold_tslocator_gmdc

In the final game, Sims get a memory after experiencing a house fire, but no model is associated with it.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

busted_tslocator_gmdc

A pair of handcuffs identical to the icon that can be found in a Sim's Memories. It would have appeared after a teen Sim gets caught sneaking out with someone by the police. In the final game, no model appears but the Sim gets a memory.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

socialBunny_tslocator_gmdc

The Social Bunny is an NPC who appears when a Sim has an extremely low Social need. No memory is associated with seeing it in the final game, but this model proves that one was planned. However, a fear of seeing the Social Bunny is present in the final game. The model looks a tad detailed, matching the style of the early Memory icons seen in Late 2003/Early 2004 builds of the game, implying it was cut a little later in development.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

verminGold_tslocator_gmdc

Cockroaches can appear on the ground when trash is left out for too long, and Sims will get a negative memory from spraying or stomping on them. This model would have appeared along with the regular memory but was scrapped.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

level5Skill_tslocator_gmdc

A memory that would have been gained after reaching Level 5 of any skill. In the final game, Sims only remember reaching Level 10 in a skill or reaching Level 10 in all skills.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

bossScenarioFail_tslocator_gmdc

The scrapped "Big Boss" scenario would have given a memory upon completion. This was for if the player failed the scenario.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

bossScenarioSuccess_tslocator_gmdc

The opposite of the memory above, gained if the player won the scenario.
There are no textures associated with the model.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

bladderFaliureGold_tslocator_gmdc

Originally this icon would have appeared alongside the Had an Accident memory but it was scrapped. Maybe Maxis didn't want too much toilet humor. For some reason it is lacking the red X from the memory icon.

Sims3D/Objects03.package

firstHome_tslocator_gmdc

The model matches the "Moved In" memory, but the name makes it seem like it would have only showed up the first time a Sim is moved into a lot.

Sims3D/Objects07.package

failedElectricalOutageGold_tslocator_gmdc

The Power Outage scenario would have given a memory upon completion. Evidently, this was used for the memory gained if the player failed the scenario.
