Unused Items#
Every item within the index of X and Y, used and unused, remains in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, so see this page for details.
One of these items, the Mega Charm, has a new icon to match its role as May's special Contest Key Stone. However, it is still unobtainable in the Bag.
The Basement Key is also brought over from the original versions, but as the gate to New Mauville uses eye recognition software in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it does not require a key for entry, and the item is thus unused.
Changed Item Descriptions#
|
|
To do: |
Once again, some of the leftover unused items had their descriptions retranslated in the English localization of the game, though far fewer of them than in X and Y.

Unobtainable Key Stones#
Within the item index are various signature Key Stones. While they are used by certain trainers, they are unobtainable and have unused text for descriptions and plurals. Some of them also have icons.
The Key Stone would later be used for Mega Evolution in Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Unused Secret Base Decorations#
Models exist for dolls of the Regis. Regi dolls were obtainable in the Japanese versions of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald by scanning certain e-Reader cards. Regice's doll can be obtained from Shigeru Ohmori's Secret Base, but the Regirock and Registeel dolls are unobtainable.

Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves#
|
|
To do: |
Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves are moves unobtainable in Generation VI, confirmed in Generation VII to have been intended for Zygarde. They are physical Ground-type moves with 90 power, 100% accuracy, and 10 PP.
Both moves have extra effects. Thousand Arrows hits Flying or Levitating Pokémon and knocks them to the ground (similar to Gravity), while Thousand Waves prevents affected Pokémon from switching out or fleeing.
Eternal Flower Floette and Light of Ruin#
|
|
To do: |
Eternal Flower Floette's Base Stats are as follows - HP: 74 Attack: 65 Defense: 67 Special Attack: 125 Special Defense: 128 Speed: 92
AZ's Floette, known as the Eternal Flower Floette, is briefly seen in a cutscene during the ending of X and Y, but is not obtainable by any normal means, nor has it been distributed in any event. Despite apparently existing only for a cutscene, there were clearly initial plans for it to be a special form of Floette to be obtained by the player in some way. This would most likely be through events.
Unlike normal Floette, Eternal Flower Floette cannot evolve into its next stage: It is also in the Undiscovered egg group, making it unable to be bred. This is akin to the Spiky-Eared Pichu in HeartGold and SoulSilver, which couldn't evolve into Pikachu.
It has higher stats than a normal Floette, its own unique cry, and has a unique signature move, Light of Ruin. Light of Ruin is a special Fairy-type move with 140 power, 90% accuracy, and 5 PP. It also deals 1/2 of the damage dealt to the user. This move has the highest base power out of all Fairy Type attacks, and could possibly be the most powerful Fairy attack in the game.

Unused Trainer Classes#
All trainer classes from X & Y exist in the game's code along with the encounter graphics, but only a few of them are used for the Battle Maison. Four trainer classes with no names also exist. Their IDs are 0x90, 0xA2, 0xAC and 0xBF.
Unused Player Contest Portraits#
These full body versions of costume portraits are never seen during contests.
Unreleased Hidden Abilities#
In the Generation VI games, it is possible to find Pokémon with special "hidden Abilities". However, some Pokémon couldn't be encountered with hidden Abilities through any legitimate means, meaning the player cannot use the following Pokémon's hidden Abilities. However, opponent Pokémon in the Battle Maison and Battle Institute have random Abilities, meaning opponents in Super Course challenges can potentially have these hidden Abilities. This includes Battle Chatelaine Evelyn, who uses Raikou, Entei, and Suicune in the Super Double Battle challenge.

In the Generation VII games, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune's Hidden Abilities were all changed to Inner Focus, and can be obtained legitimately by importing a Raikou, Entei, or Suicune from Virtual Console Gold, Silver, or Crystal to those games through Pokémon Bank.
Unobtainable Shiny Pokémon#
For the sake of consistency, every Pokémon in every Pokémon game is given a Shiny variant. Most Shiny Pokémon have been obtainable through random chance encounters or event distributions, including most Legendary Pokémon. However, a few Pokémon cannot be obtained in this form without hacking, and as a consequence, normal players would never be able to see their Shiny coloration. Note that some Shiny Legendary Pokémon, despite the species being Shiny locked in their normal in-game encounters, were still accessible via distribution-based events or via importing them through Poké Transporter.
|
|
To do: |
- Cosplay Pikachu – Like the Spiky-Eared Pichu before it, the special contest Pikachu has a Shiny variation, but its personality value is fixed so it cannot be obtained.
|
|
To do: |
- Xerneas, Yveltal – These Legendary Pokémon from Kalos cannot be caught at all in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and were Shiny-locked in X & Y. Shiny Xerneas and Shiny Yveltal would later be obtainable in Generation VI games as part of an event distribution, and through Ultra Wormhole in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.
- Zygarde - This Legendary Pokémon from Kalos cannot be caught at all in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and was Shiny-locked in X & Y, therefore its Shiny variant remained unseen through the entirety of Generation VI. Shiny Zygarde would later be obtainable in Generation VII games as part of an event distribution, and through Dynamax Adventures in Sword & Shield.
- Hoopa, Volcanion – These Mythical Pokémon were only obtainable through special distributions via Mystery Gift. Pokémon obtained from Mystery Gift cannot be Shiny unless distributed as such, and no distributions of these Pokémon ever occurred for the Generation VI games. The Shiny variant of Diancie, the first Mythical Pokémon of Generation VI, was distributed in Japanese Pokémon Centers as part of a special Mega Evolution promotion. Shiny Volcanion would later be given out as a completion reward in Pokémon HOME, being rewarded for completing the Lumiose, Hyperspace and Mega Evolution Pokédexes.

To do: |
Several Super Training missions are hidden in the games' files and meant to be unlocked via Wonder Cards. All of these missions deal with battling against balloons of Mega Evolutions not seen in the Secret Super Training missions.

Completing these missions may reward the player with an Up-Grade or a Dubious Disc, both of which are not rewarded by any normal Super Training mission. Of note is that these missions give no EVs to the Pokémon, much like Secret Super Training missions, but completion sets bitflags 0-5 in byte 0x3A for the Pokémon.

Unused Static Encounters & Gift Pokémon#
Various Pokémon that were available as Gifts in X/Y are still leftover here. These include:
- The Kanto starter Pokémon gifted to you by Professor Sycamore (only the Hoenn, Johto, Sinnoh, and Unova starters are given as gifts in these games)
- Tyrunt & Amaura (The Jaw & Sail Fossils are unobtainable in these games without trading)
- Korrina's Lucario (fixed nature and IVs, and equipped with the Lucarionite, an obvious leftover from X/Y)
There also exists unused data for a rematch with Primal Kyogre & Primal Groudon, where both Pokémon are at level 60. While both Legendary Pokémon can be rematched if they are fainted or ran away from in the main story, (after beating the Elite 4) they remain at level 45, so this unique data goes unused. There is also data for an unused Deoxys static encounter, but the only difference between this and the used variant in the Delta Episode is that the unused variant lacks the guaranteed 3 perfect IVs which are standard for Legendary encounters.
Struggle Oddity#
Like the original games, Struggle has contest stats here: however, it is considered a Tough move instead of a Cool move. It now shares its contest stats with Pound, the first move listed internally. Again, Struggle can't be used in a contest without hacking.
Unused Music#
As in Pokémon X and Y, a remix of the "Battle! VS Champion" theme from Red and Blue is included for use in the finals of the Pokémon Video Game World Championships tournament. It is identical to the one in X and Y. Oddly, in the Pokémon Omega Ruby & Pokémon Alpha Sapphire: Super Music Collection soundtrack, the theme is titled Victory! (World Champion), a naming scheme typically reserved for victory themes.
Regional Differences#
Title Screen#
As usual, the "PUSH START BUTTON" text was changed into "PRESS START" in the English versions.
Birthday Music#
As with Pokémon X and Y, a cover of "Happy Birthday to You" plays during the player's first visit to a Pokémon Center on their birthday; it is replaced with a music box version of the Pokémon Center theme on later trips. In international versions, because the Warner Music Group still nominally held the copyright to the song at the time, only the latter theme is heard.
Revisional Differences#
|
|
To do: |
Each update is required to go online.
Version 1.1#
This patch was released on November 25, 2014. It fixed a small bug in the layout of the language selection screen.
Version 1.2#
This patch was released on December 2, 2014. It fixed a freezing issue that occurs during the ending movie that plays after entering the Hall of Fame.
Version 1.3#
This patch was released on April 2, 2015, alongside the version 1.4 patch for X and Y. Both patches fix the bugs with music related to usage of the Poké Radar.
Additionally, the update includes the following fixes:
- A Pokémon's name is no longer replaced with a move's name after declining the Move Tutor's request to replace a move.
- Evolving Wailmer while surfing on one upon a fishing encounter no longer hangs the game.
