q000 - The Corpo-Rat#

The file v_corpo_npc.community contains some text strings from an early version of the Corpo prologue. The text strings seem to be the filenames of the .scene files associated with the quests and reveal the prologue would have played out completely different compared to the final game. It seems to have shared assets with an early version of the Streetkid prologue, also leftover in the files, but there's nothing about an early variant of the Nomad lifepath. This version of the quest may be a leftover from a vertical slice or an other type of demo of the game, as the street kid variant has a character appearance file that attempts to load a mesh of the player with the prefix demo_player.

Old Character Creator Access Point

There are also some remnants of an old way of accessing the character creator for the first time in the game during The Corpo-Rat. Paired with some lines found in .scene files below, it is possible Corpo V would have had to enter Arasaka Tower from outside, and created their character when entering through security, rather than creating your character before gameplay starts and spawning already inside the tower.

Some lines here suggest that V would have had to enter through the security gates. In final, the player spawns inside Arasaka Tower already, and the security guards only have a few generic lines for roaming NPCs who enter through the security gates.

Arasaka Agent talks through his phone, says he will finish conversation upstaris.

We'll finish this later.

Much closer to final, comprising Jenkins call while on the elevator and V's chat with Frank. Of note is a reference to an Arasaka agent "disturbingly similar to V", who approaches the elevator, and was cut from the final scene.

V greets him by his name.

As we get closer to the elevator a young man wearing a suit disturbingly similar to V’s approaches with hearty Kudos!

Mr. Jenkins asks where V is with an agitated voice. We’re late, again.

V continues will small talk.

Friend responds.

V says it was nice to meet again, but she is already late, needs to go.

V asks what friend was doing after they split.

Corpo says he works at Abernathy's division, and is sitll on brining coffee and copying documentation for her staff. But he was promised operation in field soon.

V asks about some recent Agency rumours.

Friend adds something new.

Friend notices V is busy, says they will catch up later.

q000_corpo_03_jenkins
Features a much longer conversation with the netrunner during the European Space Agency meeting, including her telling Jenkins his promotion has been denied, rather than it being some time in the past. While most lines are already present in Polish and English, two lines only remained in Polish, and have been machine translated.

Jenkins asks V to take her place, they will start the conference now.

“Then you know what to do. Proceed.” - Jenkins gently replies.

“Well done, move on with next phase.” - says the woman dispassionately.

“And about your promotion….unfortunately the Board of Directors has rejected your application.” - she disconnects, the screen goes dark.

Jenkins is furious. He goes to his desks and pours himself a glass of whiskey, which he downs in three big sips.

On her HUD, she can see a bunch of photos taken from a hidden camera, daily agendas and security routines. In one word - everything one needs to eliminate Abernathy.

V has someone perfect for this type of job.

More script notes with a few minor differences to final, including a line in the newscast that would have attributed the European Space Agency attacks to a hacktivist group, a reference to Lizzie's as a night club instead of a bar (likely a translation quirk), and V's coach mentioning beta-blockers.

Old The Streetkid Data

The file q000_kid_chicken_test.scene contains a chicken test that appears to have been made for an older revision of The Streetkid intro quest. It contains three choice options that doesn't really match up with the final version of the quest, which are:

V's car (Undeground Parking Lot)

Police arrived, meet Arinobu

Back in Bar (Coyote El Coyo)

Thus, it seems like in an earlier revision of the quest V drove their own car to the parking garage, attempted to steal a car from a character named Arinobu and eventually later found themselves back inside the bar. In fact, the Arasaka executive you steal the car from underwent a total of three name changes during the development of the game. First the aforementioned name and later Kaori Hiro, as the mesh file for the character suggests and lastly Kaoru Fujioka, the final chosen name.

q000 - Miscellaneous Content#

A few text strings that doesn't clearly belong to a certain variant of the lifepath intros. These text strings are numbered in the four hundreds range of the Lockey entries, meaning they were created at a very early point in development. Sarge says that advanced stealth training course awaits her.

Sarge comments on V having the last course to do. Advenced combat training!

Sarge comments on player failing the course, start again! #1

To do:
Upload the sound effects.

Several sound effects of a woman screaming that are tagged with q003 and Steinbeck contains the parameter "RTPC_q003_sc_04b_hologram_allow". The parameter name contains both the name of a property used in the sound software Wwise and likely the file name of a .scene file belonging to an early version of this quest. The file name reveals that the player would have to interact with a hologram in this version of the quest. As the files are tagged with Steinbeck these sound effects were likely produced for a version of the quest made for the first version of Night City, 01_nightcity.

q005 - The Heist#

The file q005_14_after_escape.scene contains a line that makes a reference to a cut character named Melissa, that was in some way related to Jackie. This line would have been said by V as they attemped to keep Jackie conscious inside the Delamain.

We’re gonna finally find Melissa and make her life better.

To do:
A few .envprobe files can be found from the cut locations, compile these into cubemaps. Post pictures of Reginald and his car and LOD models of buildings from this quest.

Various strings and files from a cut main quest q111 remains in the files, which reveals that River Ward was a much more important character and that V was killed during the story in a different way. In this quest V, with the help of River, would investigate the murder on themselves.

Some unused character appearances and meshes related to this quest remain, which reveals the names of some of the characters you would meet in this quest. These appearance entries are named q111_cross, q111_cross_ghost, q111_locke, q111_mia_ghost, q111_nachtigall_ghost, q111_jeremy_sutton_ghost and q111_henry_blake_ghost and the mesh file is named man_big_q111_reginald.mesh. Reginald also has an entity file for both his character and car left in the files, reginald.ent and reginalds_vehicle.ent. There are also the names of three locations made for the quest in Night City map files, named loc_q111_killers_apartment, loc_q111_seedy_sex_shop and loc_q111_pumpstation. q112 - Play It Safe#

River/Sobchuk was at one point a part of this quest, as the file interactions.tweak in Redmod includes the text string "q112_call_sobchuk". The attitudes.tweak file in Redmod also includes a reference to a group named "Group_Q112_TroysGoons", a name which doesn't fit current version of the quest.

q113 - Totalimmortal#

While the quest identifier q113 in the final game is used for the Totalimmortal quest, these strings appear to be from a version of the quest that involved some of the characters seen in the unused q111 quest, Mia, Jeremy and Nachtigall. Some early Lockey entries in the four and five hundreds range also remain, and are likely descriptions of map locations. These entries reveal that the quest would have featured a car chase, involved the Lazarus Military Operations Group, likely taken place at Arasaka Tower and the player would have physically seen Saburo Arasaka's body.

Epilogue#

q200#

Some secondary keys from a cut ending. This ending was likely cut early during the development of the game as a leftover file from this quest attempts to load some very old data. The leftover file is named q200_poster.ent and is broken due to missing files. The file and complete filepath it attempts to load is base\environment\decorations\common\papers\posters\netrunner_apartment_posters\netrunner_apartment_posters_ccharacters_c.mesh, which doesn't exist anymore. The folder the file attempts to load the mesh from doesn't match the folder structure of the final game, as the common and papers folders doesn't exist any more and while the decorations foldes does still exist, it only contains two unused files unrelated to this quest.

Some meshes that are prefixed with "netrunner_apartment_" do still exist in the files but are also unused, and likely belongs to the old version of Night City, 01_nightcity, as the main folder of the subfolder that those files are placed in is the same as where you can find some files related to the Steinbeck building.

q204 - New Dawn Fades#

Several textures intended to displayed on gravestones remain in the files. Note that these textures confirm that V was born in 2053, and suggests that Alt at one point lived between 2043 to 2072, making it seem like Alt's character was at one point heavily rewritten. This is a bit odd however as the dates shown deviates quite drastically from what is written about Alt in the Cyberpunk sourcebooks, so the dates may just be some kind of placeholder.

Side quests#

sq001#

Two basic lines referring to a cut side quest. The keycards.tweak file in Redmod also contains the string "sq001_key_house", which would have given access to some kind of house.

sq003#

Unused character appearance files and meshes remain in the files for this cut side quest. This quest would likely have had a Christian angle to it, featuring a priest and a father, the latter possibly referring to a Catholic priest. It would also have featured a a female character named Gabriela and a male character referred to as a "chico". The file sq003.tweak included with Redmod also reveals that the player maybe would have had to save that priest, as the file includes a text string that may have also been the codename for the quest; sq003_get_the_priest.

Redmod also includes a reference to an entity that was supposed to be used in this quest, sq003_car.ent. This car was set to be immortal.

sq005#

A few leftover text entries from a cut side quest with the identifier sq005.

sq006 - Dream On#

Inside the file sq006_ssi_hq.questphase, some remnants of a cut stage from the quest Dream On can be found. In this cut stage V would go and investigate SSI’s headquarters/laboratory. At the headquarters V would meet a receptionist, be lead to a chief and later be ambushed. Afterwards V could explore the offices and a lab where they would find data relating to an “experimental braindance” and brain scans. After finding those V would call Elizabeth, travel to a ramen shop and later call Jefferson. The mapPinNames and realPath entries somewhat reveals the sequence of events in this phase of the quest, and the triggerAreaRef entries reveal in more detail how the player would have moved around inside the headquarters.

The sq006_04a_secret_lab.scene file contains a few placeholder lines which gives some context for what you would have found inside the secret lab. These lines are:

Strange equipment ... Tech similar to that of a hidden room at the Perales.

Strange gear... same kind we found back in that secret room.

It’s a pity he broke out in the fire.

Shame it got fried to oblivion.

The sq006_xx_debug_scenes.scene file has some chicken test text strings that clearly belong to the older version of the quest. These text strings reveal that in the earlier revision of the quest, if V belonged to the now cut Techie class they could pick up a signal from hidden cameras placed inside the apartment. Also the truck chase appears to have played out differently, where the player could choose to run the truck off the road instead of just following it.

[GT] If V is a technician, he can receive the signal from hidden cameras. Is V a technician? IsOk Demo

There are also some cut secondary keys which seem to suggest that V and Elizabeth were originally supposed to be attacked in the ramen shop.

All that remains of this cut quest is voided references to a styrofoam container, and a few character appearances and meshes for three CIA agents, where the appearance entries are named sq009_cia_agent_01 through 03.

This quest was at some point rewritten, as leftover files in Redmod contains references to MaxTac and characters named Melissa and Bernie which doesn't really fit the current quest. The character Melissa was in some way related to Jackie, as revealed by a text string in The Heist.

The file attitudes.tweak in Redmod contains data that the following groups should have a friendly attitude:

Attitude_SQ018_Valentinos_Player

Attitude_SQ018_6thStreet_Player

Attitude_SQ018_Bernie

Attitude_SQ018_Melissa

And the following group should be neutral:

To do:
There are some LOD models with low quality textures under base\characters\appearances\quest_temp\proxy, find a good way to screenshot them and add them here.

A cut quest where the player would have possibly investigated a crime at a bar. A few character appearance entries also exists, for male characters named sq019_lobby_attendant and sq019_Jordan and female characters named sq019_cloakroom_attendant, sq019_euryale and sq019_hologram.

sq024 - The Beast In Me#

An unused radio broadcast reveals that in an earlier iteration of the quest, Trauma Team tried to rescue Dominic Sampson after the crash, but were fought back by unknown assailants, presumably V and Claire.

Audio file

Transcript

Night City, welcome back! I'm Josh Kavorkin, and Your Business is My Business!

A big heads-up to all you eddie-savvy investors – Trauma Team is set for a crash landing! Down 7 points today, and tomorrow isn't looking any better.

What the hell happened? Well, one of their clients – holder of a gold card no less, died under their watch.

Dominic Sampson, a senior manager at Militech, was burning rubber in an illegal street race when he was attacked by unknown assailants.

A Trauma Team paramedic crew was sent immediately to the scene, but... They couldn't get Sampson out alive.

This is the first death of a gold card holder in seven years, ever since the FCO of Asukaga and Finch died during the so-called Maple Revolution.

I dunno what kind of nasties could've fought back a TT medic squad, but sheesh... Hope I never see 'em in a dark alley!

That's it for now, Night City! Remember – stay safe and earn eddies!

There are more leftovers which corroborate the involvement of Trauma Team in the quest, such as the file sq024_trauma_team.community, which contains entries for spawning a Trauma Team AV, two soldiers and two medics. The chicken test also includes an entry named "Drive off [After TT]", where TT refers to Trauma Team.

The chicken test script for starting the Santo Domingo race terminates with the entry "pacifica_out", which suggests the race originally took place in Pacifica. There is also a secondaryKey which mentions Pacifica, "Story-base-quest-side_quests-sq024-characters-sq024_pacifica_race_starter_displayName".

The filename of Claires garage, loc_sq024_mariannes_garage_exterior_architecture.mesh, reveals that Claire also used to have different name, Marianne.

sq025 - Tune Up / Epistrophy / Don't Lose Your Mind#

Two Lockey entries in the five hundreds range remain. The link/un-link entries may refer to an early version of letting Delamain reestablishing connections to his cabs, where the player could also choose to disconnect Delamain cabs from his network.

An unused news broadcast belonging to the quest. One notable detail about the broadcast is that the dollhouse is referred to as Beyond by the reporter instead of Clouds. The last two lines are likely two different variants for the ending of the broadcast.

Transcript

We have breaking news of a shooting that occurred at the dollhouse Beyond.

Over thirty people were killed and many more suffered injuries.

We have our correspondent, Kathryn O'Brien, at the scene. Kathryn, can you tell us what transpired exactly?

I'm afraid not, Gillean. The NCPD has not yet issued a formal statement on the situation.

The most likely scenario appears to be gang-on-gang violence. Eyewitness accounts report many victims were covered in tattoos characteristic of the Tyger Claws.

I see. A tragic day for Beyond and its clientele. We can only hope the dolls who survived will have no memory of this horrific event.

Thank you, Kathryn. We will continue to report on the incident as the story develops.

Some early Lockeys entries in the five hundreds range. These reveal that in an early version of the quest the player had to take and place braindances, some equipment and a poster. The Leave weapons entry may have evolved into the weapons locker used in the quest Automatic Love.

These text strings are numbered in the five hundreds of the Lockey entries, meaning they were created at a very early point in development. These reveal that diving has in some way has always been a part of this quest. It also shows how being a part of the cut Solo and Techie classes would have benefitted the player.

Minor quests#

mq009#

Mq009 is the quest identifier of a cut quest where V helped a homeless man named Ken from being attacked. The .scene files belonging to this quest still remain in the files, which contain all of the subtitles belonging to this quest. A .gamedef file remains that contains a chicken test where the teleport options no longer work. However, the player is initially spawned on a road near Megabuilding H02, so the first meet may have taken place near the Megabuilding.

During the quest, V would have first met the homeless man out on the street and protected him from being attacked by other homeless people. After V helped the man they realize that the homeless man isn't your average homeless man and ask how he ended up on the street. The man starts describing that he used be a board member at Kendachi and that she had a daughter named Enid who was interested in bio-tech, wanted to bring back the platypus from extinction and ended up working for Biotechnica to do this. Ken however dozes off partway through the story.

This later leads to V meeting the man a second time after a three day waiting period, where Ken reveals he cut all contact with Enid for going to Biotechnica instead of Kendachi. He later mentions going to a meeting where he learns that Kendachi had Enid killed for going to Biotechnica instead of Kendachi. After hearing this during the meeting, Ken attacks the CEO which eventually leads to Ken quitting his job. The final part of the quest involves V either driving the man or meeting him at the construction site where Enid was killed. Here the player could choose to execute Ken, or talk him out of getting killed.

The subtitles of the quest are shown below. Note that these subtitles do not show the original order the dialogue was given during the quest as the text entries in the .scene files are in somewhat random order and that the entries below have been loosely arranged into groups of relevant dialogue.

Initial meet

Agh! W-what's that? Legs getting... tired?

Quit cryin', your majesty! Or I'll cut our your tongue!

Where's the cash?! Don't play me!

The fuck're you?

The hell d'you want? Jealous of his majesty's busted ribs?

Agreed.

I need details first.

Kendachi's infamous for its suicides.

I'm supposed to explain her decision?

Is that--agh! T-that all you got?

Heard you talkin' in your sleep!

Plenty more to go 'round!

Enid's dream project?

Ugh... Bravo. What an altruist. What do ya want now? Warm hug? Handful of ennies?

You needed help.

You owe me.

That why you were hollerin'? 'Cause you didn't "have a stake in it?"

A few ennies sounds nice, actually. Your choombas mentioned a hidden stash.

How 'bout some advice instead. You see someone not asking for help... you keep walkin'.

Neither side... had any real stake in it.

The body... doesn't always do what it's told. Not even implants always help... Pain is pain.

My "choombas" think they're smarter than me. But they're easy to mislead... to manipulate.

Not your average homeless guy, are you?

You were provoking them?

Hold up... You wanted to provoke them? On purpose?

Does it matter? Why do you care?

Normally, I'd say "'cause I saved your ass," but I'm guessin' that won't do the trick.

You're starting to catch on.

Not a man of the streets, are you? Where'd you drop in from?

Actually, think you do owe me.

Two bums kick your ass to the curb, you're insulted that I'd dare help, and now you try to chew me out with perfect diction.

Actually, think I am owed.

Didn't think anyone would notice?

What is it to you? I owe you shit. Now, leave me alone.

I dunno how you ruffled their rags, but seemed pretty clear to me you weren't gettin' kicked by choice.

If you thought none of that'd seem odd, ya didn't quite think it through.

Hm. You're stubborn – just like my daughter. She loved to call people out on their gaps in logic.

Actually... You even look her age...

All right, fine. I'll satisfy your curiosity provided you do something for me later on. Are we agreed?

C'mon, out with it. Who are you really?

A deal with details in the dark? Consider me interested.

Nice try. You spin some tall tale and then I have to do... Jesus, I don't even wanna think what.

I'll hold you to your word. In the meantime, I invite you to my cozy abode. Need to get off my feet – I can barely stand.

No, you tell me you story and what it is you want from me, then I make my decision.

Got a real negotiator on my hands, huh... So be it, follow me. Need to get off my feet , after all. I can barely stand.

Now? Nobody. But a few months ago, a seat on the Kendachi board had my name on it – Ken Lee.

My, my! What an honor! Got someone you owe to this spectacular downfall?

No, no one. I sacrificed my life for the company. And I wanted my daughter... Enid... to do the same.

Daddy plannin' out his kid's career? Rings of domestic despot to me...

Wrong again. Biotech was Enid's passion. And at Kendachi, she could make her living immersed in it.

I just wanted her to be happy. Does that make me a rotten father? Does it?!

If my dad micromanaged my whole life, I'd've bail first chance I got and never looked back.

Just matched her own plans with your expectations. Nothin' wrong in that.

Wouldn't want a dad like you.

You did nothing wrong.

I gave her everything! Toys, books, even a dog! Do you know how steep the taxes on those fleabags are?

And this gives you the right to control her life?

Think we got off subject...

I'm sure your family history's a real page-turner, but what's it got to do with your hero-to-zero story?

I'll get to that. But first, you answer my question.

What, whether you're a shitty dad? What do you care what I think?

What do you care about my story?

She'd have equipment, resources... One month and I could give her an entire lab at Kendachi to lead.

Everything she could need to carry out her dream project.... So why'd she choose Biotechnica?

Exactly! I gave her everything! Toys, books, even a dog! Do you know how steep the taxes on those fleabags are?

A good dad, and a corpo no less.

What's this dream project of hers?

Well... Enid always loved nature's strangest creatures. As a girl, she wanted to bring the platypus back from extinction.

Not foxes or bears, but platypuses specifically. She was a special kid.

Platy--what? That alien or animal?

It's like a cross between a duck and a beaver. Can you imagine? I'd love to see one with own two eyes.

Maybe she didn't want to be a martyr for some deadline deity. Kendashi's got a nasty rep for staff suicides.

Wait, you... you want me to explain why your daugher jumped ship for the competition?

Eighteen-hour workdays can break a man's soul... Or his family's, at the very least.

You think think it's that simple? That...that you just quit and live happily ever after?

I did. Dunno if it extended my life any, but I like to think my mood's taken a turn for the better.

Don't have any kids, do you? Well, without my money, Enid could only ever dream of becoming a bioengineer!

Didn't consider that, did you? Like the eddies just fell from the sky, and I spent my nights in meetings by choice! I did it all for her!

Hey, Ken... Maybe get off my back?

I did everything to convince her. The problem was with her... Right? It must've been!

Take it easy, man. How could I know...

I had to the right to feel betrayed. Who keeps traitors close? Suicidal fools, that's who!

S-she made... her decision... She knew... Kendachi is my life. So why... why would...

Ugh... Think my kidneys got the worst of it.

Yo, Ken. You alive?

Did she know anyone at Biotechnica?

Guessin' she didn't know anyone at Biotechnica, did she?

Not that I know of. Why?

If I were her, wouldn't want anyone thinkin' I got my job 'cause I'm daddy's pet.

Anywhere else she has to rely on herself. An uphill climb, sure, but all the more satisfying.

Look like a gonk when you smile. Nah, I just love seein' bottomed-out corpos – balm for the soul. Curious how he wound up here.

Guess we gotta wait for the exciting conclusion.

Corpo-prick drifted off. Musta really drilled it into him, the corp's glorious vision. Till he grew a heart, anyway.

Think this daughter issue was what wrecked the guy?

That was rhetorical right? You really gotta work on your intonation.

Shame he didn't finish his story. Actually had me curious what he wanted to ask – and what happened to Enid.

On the edge of your seat, huh?

Second meeting

Hey! I know you! We had a deal!

Hey, Ken. Is it time for the next episode "Daddy-Daughter Dilemmas?"

Sit. I'll tell you the rest.

[Sit by Ken.]

And she had just called me... a few days before. If only I'd answered...

OK.

Fuck... OK. I mean, no one should die alone.

What, suddenly realize your priorities ruined your life? No, this is on you. Don't drag me into it.

Thank you... But can we do it elsewhere? I have a place.

Yes.

No.

All right.

Maybe later.

Yeah, sure.

Can't right now. In a bit of a hurry.

And you just had to know everything about me... Had you pegged for a flake.

I'm back. Not hurryin' off anywhere else for now.

You're just lucky no one took your spot. Have a seat.

I'm back.

You, come here!

Last time, I...I wasn't quite myself. It's starting to happen more often... But that's neither here nor there.

Our first conversation made me realize a few things. Strange as it sounds, I want to thank you for being nosy.

I'd give it all just to hear her raise her voice again.

I'll be back. Maybe.

I'll still be here. Maybe.

Enid, my baby girl...

You deserved it.

I'm sorry.

Tell me in the car.

Happy to be of service.

Got a quick tongue, don't you? Just like my Enid... You know, there was a time I thought she was incapable of using a normal tone.

Enid's dead, isn't she?

Why'd you bite my head off before?

Why'd you bite my head off before? (x2)

Look, you and Enid... You remind me a lot of her.

I fooled myself into thinking if you gave me any words of sympathy, forgiveness, it'd be like it came from her.

Noticed a lot past tense before. She...she's dead, isn’t she?

She called me right after she signed her contract. Explained to me that Biotechnica had the DNA for extinct animals she wanted to resurrect.

"Platypuses, dad! Platypuses and axolotls! You know I've dreamed of this since elementary school! Ever since you got me that book."

I said...I said never wanted to see her again. And hung up.

You're a dick.

I understand... in a way.

Dick move, but I understand the instinct. She knew she picked the enemy over you.

Thanks for the reminder all corpos are massive dickheads.

I broke off contact, not wanting to know what she did, where she lived. She betrayed the company... and, by extension, me.

I know...I know! I was just so furious, I lost myself... How could I know it would be the last time I'd hear her voice?

That call still haunts my sleep... How could I know it would be the last time I'd hear her voice?

Whoever isn't with us is against us... Classic.

Don't you mock me. Not right now.

Then, one day the CEO called me in to talk. I thought he wanted to talk strategy for the upcoming quarter...

But as soon as I stepped in, he told me he had Enid killed.

Why do it, have her killed?

Competition? To test my loyalty, maybe?

Enid focused on artificial tissues, regenerative work... heart muscle.

If Biotechnica took it to market, Kendachi pacemaker sales... they would have plummeted.

Jesus, Ken, I'm sorry... You fucked up, but not enough to deserve this.

Don't know what you expected after sellin' yourself to a corp. One day you're destroying lives, next it's yours. Circle of life.

Why have Enid killed?

Your words won't change anything. Still... thank you. I mean it.

I didn't deserve that. I did everything for her! Everything!

You really so fuckin' certain?

Guessin' we're at the part we agreed on. What is it you want from me for your story? Revenge?

I would've killed him.

I'd have gutted the bastard. Dont' care if his security flatlined me after.

When the initial shock passed, I thought of nothing else. I had to wipe that arrogant smirk from his face.

So I threw myself at him in a rage. If only I had mantis blades instead of my bare hands...

Finally, a good decision. Only a shame it came too late.

They didn't kill me, though. Would've been a bad PR move. Instead they waited – waited until I wound up here.

Just... kill me. That's it.

I have no strength left, and I don't want it back. I don't even have enough to pull the trigger.

Wait, please! You can't leave me like this now!

No? Watch me.

Last one had quite the dramatic conclusion.

[Offer Ken a cigarette.]

I don't smoke.

Here. To cool your nerves?

Out of luck. Don't smoke.

Got a cigarette? It's a perfect day for a puff.

For our history lesson.

New day, new disappointments... It's fine.

Final meet

Hey! Where are you going? Get back here!

It's here. Come with me.

An abandoned construction site?

Goddamn city... Gave it all, then took it all right back...

Apparently, they lured her here. She didn't realize her life was in danger until was too late.

As good a place as any other. More importantly, away from others.

Where we headed?

To the place they ended her life.

I want to see what she saw before I die.

Want to leave me no way out, is that it?

You sure?

Poetic.

Not exactly, it's just... it's how it ought to be.

At least she wasn't scared.

Yes. You're right...

Ken, listen... My company spat me out too. Was handed a dirty job by a higher-up. Thought it was game over for me.

But I got help. He showed me it's possible to find meaning another way. Then I lost him too, just like you lost Enid.

There's the problem. I don't want it.

Fuck you! You hear me?!

I...I can do this... Just once...

But look at me! I got my life back! Stupid as it might sound, all you gotta do is want it back.

We had a deal, you hear me!? You gave your word!

And the platypuses?

W-what...? What platypuses?

The ones your daughter wanted to give life to. Her unfulfilled dream.

Why mention that? Do you want to see me drown in my grief even more?

Enid would consider you a coward.

You can fulfill her dream.

You're a coward, the pathetic way you just roll over.

If you die, the last memory of her dies with you, d'you understand? Like she never existed. You want that?

I lost everything. Where would even begin to get the resources for...for a biotech breakthrough?

...

It's true. Do you want my apology for being weak? Well, it's my right.

Do you think Enid would want this? That because--

Enid doesn't want anything! She can't because of me! You get that yet?! Just let me die!

What about the platypuses?

And if that person doesn't have the strength to live in a world without you?

I don't know.

It's not about the platypuses.

No clue – think of something. Make an effort. You're a hundred times smarter than me.

Maybe the platypuses are stupid idea – I dunno, you're the scientist. That's not what this is about.

I do know one thing. Life's a fucking roller coaster. I'm 24 and I... well, I could die really damn soon.

W-what? What're you talking about?

And y'know what? I don't want the world to forget about me. That's why I crawled out from the bottom through all the shit. Understand?

If there's anyone anywhere who cares about me, they better buckle their ass in and spend whatever time they can with me.

Then, when I'm dead, stand over my grave and rock their grandkids' minds with stories about how V lived for somethin'!

Then they better find it. For my sake.

Good luck, Ken.

Do it.

Goodbye, Ken. You deserve this.

Goodbye, Ken.

You deserve this.

Sure about this?

I know.

Just do it.

Goodbye, Ken.

mq027 - Living on the Edge#

To do:
Analyze placeholder dialogue in .scene files, analyze the remaining messages, do a more detailed analysis of the sequences in the quest and do a better arrangement of the sound files.

A cut quest named Living on the Edge where V helped a News 54 crew scroll a braindance of themselves performing bike stunts. Dialogue from the introduction and from at least one the stunts do still exist, and gives an idea of how the quest would have played out. Many text strings related to the quest include the word "kiroshi", which imply the company was at one point involved in this quest.

In the quest, V would have first seen the crew attempting to perform the stunt by themselves before spectacularly crashing the bike, which would have left a man with a broken bottom. V could later approach the crew out on the street, asking if the man is okay. After asking that the crew would ask V if they wanted to perform the stunt for them. If V replied positively, they would enter an AV with a motorcycle and be taken to a rooftop where V rode the bike down the building. In total, the player would have to complete four stunts.

The chicken test of the quest reveals what the five stages of the quest would have been, which includes the intro and the stunts:

Beginning of the quest

Kiroshi - Drive down & jump

Kiroshi - Route over rooftop

Driving on the Pipe

Jump from tall building

Code for four of the stunts to be performed remain. Two of these, the Kiroshi entries, appear to relatively finished complete with corresponding written dialogue. The other two less finished stages has "owstunt" in their names, which may stand for "open world stunt". How these entries differ from the Kiroshi stages is unclear. The open world variants only contain generic dialogue reused from the other stages, which imply that these stages only were half-finished. There also some leftover code for messages that imply that the player could both get into an accident or steal the motorbike given to V by the crew, with V able to admit to doing either thing and being asked to return the motorbike. There is also code for a message that would be sent after the quest, where V would be given the bike from the quest, a Kusangi. The text that belongs to these messages do still exist, with the exception of the message related to the accident, which suggests that the message was cut.

Messages sent if bike was stolen:

Hey, you went a little too far. We forgot to tell you that the bike automatically comes back to us if you stray too far from the set.

Which must've OBVIOUSLY happened by ACCIDENT, right?

My muse would never, EVER try to steal our bike, would she?

My muse would never, EVER try to steal our bike, would he?

Course not! Just got a little... sidetracked.

And what would you do if she did? ;)

And what would you do if he did? ;)

Ahh, I see we have ourselves a dreamer. Don't worry, sometimes I get lost in my own world too.

I'd say I appreciate her honesty before dialing corpo security :)

I'd say I appreciate his honesty before dialing corpo security :)

Doesn't matter. Come back here. We still have few takes left.

Messages sent after completing the quest:

V, my muse! Our boss is absolutely THRILLED with the recordings! He can't believe it's all raw and unedited!

Won't be long before everyone knows what you're made of... your skill... your SPIRIT!!

What's that I smell? Millions of €$ in profit from the best recording of the decade?! Or is it the blinding light of a BD's newest star?!

Fantastic, truly. So maybe now you can pay me?

Nova. I'll start practicing my autograph

Ahahaha!!!111!! Oh, V...

No.

BUT! I do have something much, MUCH better than money!!!

The boss was so mesmerized by your stunts that he decided to give you THE bike!

And guess what? It's already waiting in your garage! SURPRISE!!!11!!1!

Whaddaya think? You're officially a celebrity on N54 News!

Looks like it. Thanks for my 15 mins of fame

Chill, Jessy. I'll start feelin like a celeb when the paparazzi start popping out of my closet

Message instructing V to go to a new filming location:

Hey hey! My two-wheel virtuoso! There's another route waiting for you... We can barely contain our excitement here...

On my way.

Kinda busy right now. I'll drop by later. Maybe.

Oh my god, YES!

The quest objectives and title also still remain and are listed below with a few duplicate entries removed:

Is that a challenge?

You hear this? Now he can’t shut up.

Phantom Liberty inexplicably ships with even more lines belonging to this quest. These lines are stored in the ep1 folder, meaning these lines were shipped with the DLC rather than the 2.0 patch. It includes voice lines from two different recording sessions, as there are recordings from two takes of V's dialogue for a few lines and the voice actor of the male crew member has been changed to a new one.

Hear that? Eddies? Do you even know how many people will see you? See your talent?

Please don’t do this to me. I can’t believe you’re a... a materialist, not an artist like you.

Not just a hero, but an idealist. How could I refuse such skillful blackmail.

The words of a true artist. You have my respect, my admiration.

Cut, cut! Get on the bike and ride!

What are you waiting for?

Please! You’re my one and only hope!

You’ve got a rocker’s soul.

This is it. My peak. I will never scroll anything better than this.

I’ll never forget this, I promise.

Brave enough, brave. He means; brave enough to blaze the way to a new realm of art!

Just the scroller please. And I’ll build your monument more lasting than bronze.

That’s what I’m talking about, got a real pro here. Not like some people.

Old voice actor.

Plug it, wimp.

Hella preem, a true punk!

Yeah, what she said. Part of making eddies for us all.

Come on, we’re givin’ you free exposure, now you want money too?

Can I just knock the shit of him now Jessie, please?

Chick's got moves! You see how she dodged all the rats too? Unbelievable.

F

Now that’s what I call a goddamn first-class performance! Unlike some of us...

Well, sure fucked that up. Hit all the markers in the time limit. Something about that don’t compute?

New voice actor.

Plug it, wimp.

Choom! You’re my hero.

Choom's got moves! You see how he dodged all those rats too? Unbelievable.

M

Shit, thanks. Thought I’d never get back on another bike.

Amateur hour! No style, no feeling. Show you myself if my ass wasn’t fallin’ off.

Jessie gave me a hypo. I think my hip gonked.

Choom! Can you chill?

Leave me the hell alone! All of you.

Oh, yeah – thanks.

Got ourselves a real pro here, eh? Not like some other peeps.

mq034#

To do:
Photograph the unused character model.

The mq034 quest identifier is used for the quest that contains the files belonging to The Witcher easter egg, where at the northernmost pier in Pacifica the player can find a note on a dead character hinting that there is a hidden container at a given location. The .scene file of the quest, mq034_01_scene.scene, reveals that the quest was at one point intended to be a little bit more fleshed out compared to its current version. The player would originally have seen the man with the coordinates to the loot container dying, as corroborated by the string "mq034_01_man_dying_IN" in the .scene file and the name of the character entity file "mq034_dying_man.ent". The entity file also contains a model that differs from the character seen in the final quest.

The .scene file contains data that suggests that the player could access a datapad that may have contained a list of coordinates, as suggested by the strings "mq034_01_activate_datapad_IN" and "mq034_01_list_of_coordinates_IN". The latter entry suggests that the player could have found more than one container with loot in the quest. Accessing the loot container may have also worked differently, with data in the .scene file suggesting the player would have opened a barrel rather than regular loot containers, as there is a choice option with the string "[Search Barrel]" and an other string named "mq034_01_open_barrels_IN".

mq039#

To do:
A character model named woman_average_mq039_veteran_netrunner remains in the files. Upload some photos of this model.

Some text entries belonging to a cut minor quest involving a netrunner that may have been named Cizin.

Street Stories / Gigs#

sts_hey_spr_01 - On a Tight Leash#

Some unused strings that belongs to a gig with same identifier as the gig On a Tight Leash. However, as the content of the strings doesn't really match with the contents of the gig in the final game it is likely that this gig was rewritten at some point. Also note that one of the strings imply that the Flathead could have been used outside of the main quest.
