Unused Loading Screens

This is a sub-page of Cyberpunk 2077.

Loading Screen .gamedef Files#

To do:
Retake the gamedef screenshots at 3840x1600 resolution.

The game archives include several .gamedef files that were used to render both used and unused loading screens of the game, that can be used to display both the unused loading screens and also map differences between the versions of the map used to render the used loading screens and the version used in the final game. The .gamedef files can be launched in the game by starting the game with the "-gameDefinition" launch parameter. When loading the .gamedef files, the game moves the camera into the specified camera postions and weather presets. Comparisons between used loading screens and the render will be done where comparisons can be made. Note that the placement of pedestrians, traffic, visual effects and some ads will always differ slightly due to these elements being generated live by the game engine.

Unused Loading Screen Audio Files#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: It's likely that these files are available in different languages. While we don't have to put them here, it would be important to note that here if it's the case.

Audio files and a few other assets belonging to several unused loading screens can be found in the game files.

loading_screen_1_game_start_until_q001#

This loading screen was supposed to be played during the lifepath intro quests. Only the sound files of a finance news broadcast by Josh Kavorkin and a gamedef file named loading_screen_1_game_start_until_q001 remains.

Good evening, Night City! Tonight's Finance Flash begins as always, with a look at stocks.

Today's success story however, belongs to Arasaka Corp. Who rumbles on with a strong seven percent push. With that, the Japanese giant's market valuation has finally crossed the incredible three trillion eurodollar mark.

Kang Tao is down 3.2 percent, following the seizure of their Caracas facility by Venezualan rebel forces. Suffering a similar drop was Kendachi, in the wake of a disappointing quarterly report.

Even at a hefty two-hundred eurodollars a pop — and I can't believe I'm saying this — the smart move is still to buy, buy, buy.

Move, move, move!

The capable medics of Trauma Team have once again achieved the impossible. Only 76 seconds, the time it took them to deliver Sandra to the hospital, where she received a second lease on life.

Don't wait, call now. Because your life is worth it.

The Heist Loading Screen#

A loading screen that was intended to be shown after the quest The Heist. It would have featured a WNS News broadcast which covered the events at Konpeki Plaza.

Dear viewers, thank you for tuning in. I’m Arif Iqbal and this is WNS News.

We have a breaking story. It appears that during the attack on Konpeki Plaza, longtime Arasaka CEO Saburo Arasaka was killed.

On behalf of the entire WNS News team, we offer our sincerest condolences to the Arasaka family as they mourn their loss.

The family’s suffering must be immense. You have our deepest sympathies.

loading_screen_7_after_q110#

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: This line actually used to play in the game after Johnny's dialogue during certain conditions(?) but seems to have been patched out sometime in early 2021, as Google only returns search results regarding the line until that date. A compilation video of loading screens from December 2023 does not feature the line.

An unused line from the loading screen that is shown after completing the quest Transmission. In this line Doctor Paradox would have broadcast a message directly to V.

Mikoshi... Gotta figure out how to get us there, V. ASAP.

loading_screen_8_after_q103#

A loading screen that was supposed to play after the quest Ghost Town. It featured a character named Haruhuto Oconnel who was host of a show called "America's Most Violent Home Videos" showing a clip of a shooting happening inside the Ghost town. Two different takes of Johnny's response is included in the files. A reference is made by the host of a town called La Mesa, which doesn't exist in the final map.

Welcome to America's Most Violent Home Videos.

Do I have a spicy video for you today – a huge shootout in the Badlands. This clip was sent to us by Kevin from La Mesa. Now, y'all ready to see some lead fly? Then let's roll tape!

This thing workin'? Mack? I'm in the Badlands in the Ghost town can – can you see that?

I was here north on the 15 when I heard shots, I thought I'd check it out. Got nomads on one side and Raffen Shiv, looks like, on the other.

Oh shit. Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!

Big thanks to Kevin for the killer video – ding ding ding, you just earned a year's supply of Nicola!

And we'll be right back with another clip that will melt your marbles. Stay with us.

Year's supply of Nicola huh? Honest pay for honest work.

Should get a recording when you down Hellman's AV. You'd have these upstanding people shittin' themselves silly.

The NCPD claims losses were minimal, considering the scale of the incident. I dunno... Depends on perspective, man. I had to stomach an ice-cold burrito...

Oh Ruth, it could have been worse... So, so much worse.

That was big time, V.

loading_screen_11_after_q113#

An unused loading screen that was supposed to play after the quest Totalimmortal. This loading screen is finished with all relevant files still in the game files which includes audio files, textures, videos, and other related files.

Disasterpiece Loading Screen#

This loading screen was supposed to be played after the player rescued Evelyn in the quest Disasterpiece. In this loading screen, Ziggy Q would have interviewed Lewis McKay, president and founder of the Wake-up Foundation, who helps people who have been forced to take part in XBDs. Ziggy Q is seemingly somewhat unaware of the full details of what Lewis is going to talk about. The dialogue seems to imply a cut element to this storyline, where Evelyn was sent to be helped by this group rather than just staying in Judy's apartment.

Heelloooo Night City! Please help me welcome my guest today, president and founder of the Wake-up Foundation, mister Lewis McKay!

Now, Lewis. What is it your foundation does exactly? Alarm clock advocacy?

Uh, no. We help people who been forced to take part in illicit braindance or – XBDs. It can be very difficult for them to return to a normal life afterwards.

And I understand you speak from personal experience?

That's, right – yes. I was forced into it many times.

I did eventually escape it all. But, I was a shell of my former self. Out on the streets, no help, no support.

That's –– horrible...

And I was lucky. We have this case now, a woman who worked as a doll. She ended up at an XBD studio after her doll implant failed.

They had her linked into the editor for several days straight non-stop. What they did to her though, torture doesn't begin to describe it.

Ough... My God... What happened to her?

She's in a catatonic state, severe brain damage, epileptic fits. Beyond help I'm afraid.

Apologies if I'm overstepping, but, umm...

Rape. Usually rape. There is always demand for it.

Another kid Night City's chewed up and spat back out.

Find these Voodoo Boys and fast. Or Evelyn's story might become your own.

Gillean Jordan Broadcast#

Sound files of a news broadcast given by Gillean Jordan that belongs to a loading screen. The contents of the broadcast are seemingly very generic and don't really fit the events of any quest in the final game. The broadcast may be referencing a cut quest.

Good evening Night City. First, a look ahead of tonights broadcast. A bird flu outbreak grips Lahore, over two-hundred dead in Sweden in the wake of an extreme heatwave and a terrorist attack at the Kinshasa orbital terminal.

But now for local news. Westbrook has been rocked by a major fire.

NCPD forensics have concluded arson was the cause, and request any information you might have that could aid in their investigation into the arsonist's identity.
