Asphalt 4: Elite Racing is the fourth major title in the Asphalt series released in 2008. Built on a new in-house game engine (likely the Aurora), the game was the first to get an iOS release.

Revisional Differences#

While truly cut content in the game appears to be scarce, the game is rife with revisional differences:

iOS#

The iOS release of the game is the complete touchscreen edition of the game, featuring all 28 cars and 12 tracks (not counting Tokyo, which was exclusive only to iPod devices). It is also the only version of the game to feature a gyroscope functionality, as the feature is used to steer the car by tilting the screen, & nitrous can even be fired off by simply shaking the screen. This version of the game has the slowest sense of speed and a vastly different camera. There's only a single engine sound for every car.

Java/iPod#

The Java & iPod releases of the game were scaled down to 2.5D graphics, featuring only 10 vehicles and 6 city tracks, while completely omitting the Bluetooth Multiplayer and full vehicle roster found on most of the other releases. Additionally, only one track (Tokyo) is an iPod-exclusive track, & the Los Angeles track is renamed to "Beverly Hills" in the Java release. 5 Girls are also available in the iPod release (as opposed to the standard 3 on every other version) & the feature itself is renamed to "Phone a Girl".

Windows Mobile/Nokia N-Gage#

Meanwhile the Windows Mobile & Nokia N-Gage releases of the game, despite being practically the same as the Java/iPod release content-wise, are fully rendered in 3D & support Bluetooth Multiplayer. They are also labeled as "HD GAME" depending on the version. The Girl feature is also renamed to "Choose Your Lady" in both versions.

Nintendo DSi#

The DSi release of the game is the same as the iOS release, except only 8 tracks are featured, the music is sequenced and the UI was reworked to support a dual-screen environment for compatibility with the console. As neither the DSi nor its eventual successors had WiFi or Bluetooth functionality, the Bluetooth Multiplayer feature standard on most other releases was instead reworked into a standard "Multiplayer" option compatible with Local Play, a DSi-to-DSi feature. Out of all the versions, this one is the fastest in car speeds.

Exclusive Cars#

One car is only available if you own specific brand devices:

Samsung WCG Car#

Exclusive to the Android, Java, Windows Mobile, & Nokia N-Gage releases, the Samsung WCG Car is playable only in the dedicated 2009 WCG events. However, in the Nokia N-Gage release, it is unlocked by default. The car would later appear in Asphalt 5 and Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, both being redesigned.
