Asphalt 6: Adrenaline is the sixth entry in the Asphalt series, introducing the all-new "Adrenaline" nitro system and more.

Sub-Pages#

"Asphalt Origins" Original Working Title#

In the "Resources" folder within the files of the MacOS release of the game, an unused icon was present among the final icon:

This appears to be evidence that the game was originally going to be called "Asphalt Origins" before it was renamed at some point prior to release.

Lost Update#

An Android-exclusive update was limited to a very specific Xperia Play version of the game (v3.3.9) which featured three tracks that were later removed entirely afterward:

  • Hong Kong
  • Detroit
  • Rio de Janeiro

These tracks would likely have been based on their incarnations from Fast Five the Movie: Official Game, and were eventually reused in Asphalt: Injection as well as Asphalt 7: Heat (albeit only Rio being used in the latter).

Among these tracks, one car was also removed in v3.3.9:

  • Audi RS 3 Sportback (later added in the iOS-exclusive Audi RS 3 Update & later brought back in v1.0.2 & v1.3.3 before being permanently removed)

Because it appears that almost no one documented this update (outside of the screenshots seen above) prior to the 2011 WCG Update, this Xperia Play update is often considered to be lost media.

Scrapped Game Mode#

In the files, a cut game mode were discovered with some of its remaining data left over in the files:

  • Cop Chase: Possibly the original title for the game's "Under Pressure" race mode, this race mode would have been a Need For Speed-inspired mode where the player would have to flee the cops while simultaneously trying not to crash to avoid depleting a set number of lives. For unknown reasons, this feature was never finished, & it was instead recoded so that AI racers could behave like the planned Police AI instead. Ironically, Gameloft later brought this game mode back in the Java release as "Wanted," and it was reused in both Asphalt: Injection and the infamous Asphalt 3D (as "High Speed Chase"), though a similar race mode was later scrapped in Asphalt 7: Heat.

Scrapped "Girl" Feature#

The "Girl" feature from Asphalt 5 was also cut from the game at some point in time and never returned to Asphalt 6. Some data for this feature is left in the game files.

Unused Damage Models#

Doru Butz, a former Gameloft employee, showcased his entire Asphalt 6 portfolio on ArtStation. Among the vehicle roster, there was also some planned damage models showcasing things like scratches, dents, and shattered windshields. With this piece, there is evidence to conclude that a damage system was initially planned for either Asphalt 6 or Asphalt: Injection, but was scrapped likely due to hardware limitations.

Unused/Scrapped Cars#

Three cars are mentioned only as text in the credits of the game:

  • Pagani Zonda F
  • RUF Dakara
  • Tesla Model S (likely the 2009 concept version)

These cars never made it into the game and are likely scrapped without available models or textures.

Platform Differences#

Mac OS X#

As the second earliest release of the game behind iOS. Despite it being released, it features many unintended physics and gameplay changes.

  • Drifting seems to feel a lot stiffer in this version.
  • Nitro can be used while drifting and lasts shorter, whereas every other version cancels it the instant the moment the brakes are stepped on.
  • Unlike iOS, this version does not feature HD track textures.
  • Duel races are much harder to beat, since the rival will always keep at a consistent speed, making it way harder to obtain the Gold rank.
  • Just like iOS, the files are in several .dat files (with QM/QL header almost like a zip file) instead of being unpacked in cases of some Android versions and the Symbian port.
  • In some cases, several races may be impossible to beat.

Android#

As it being the third release, it's much more stable than the Mac port since it plays much better. It also features the most prominent appearances of the aforementioned sponsored cars.

  • Track textures are lower quality.
  • As said, the currently lost Xperia version features three more tracks and one more car. Otherwise, it keeps the original 12 track and 42 car roster as usual.
  • Many versions completely remove an engine noise from the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG, the RUF 3400K, the RUF RT12 & the RUF CTR3, replacing it with another engine noise from cars like the Audi R8.
  • In many versions, the game's archives are unpacked (most prominent on the firmware versions), rather than using the .dat archives.
  • In certain versions, the music is slightly larger not because of quality increase, but because of the increased volume gain.
  • While not being present in any other version (having been removed after the currently lost Xperia version), the Audi RS 3 Sportback is still present, but only in versions 1.0.2 and 1.3.3 before presumably being removed again due to the car not being found in prior or subsequent versions.

Symbian#

Ultimately it being the final Asphalt game to release on the device (primarily on the Symbian ^3). It can be considered as a low end version with the progression untouched.

  • Track detail seems to be compressed further alongside textures.
  • Draw distance is closer in this version.
  • Features an odd emulation quirk, where car paint and detail textures have their colors inverted.
