Torneko no Daibouken: Fushigi no Dungeon ("Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon") is a spinoff of Dragon Quest IV, featuring the eponymous shopkeeper Torneko on a quest to find cool new stuff to sell. It's also the first game in the multi-franchise Mystery Dungeon series.

Debug Mode#

By changing the first two bytes of an unheadered ROM from FF to 00 (or enter Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes C0000000, C0000100), the game's debug mode will be active.

Pressing Start on controller 1 with debug mode active has various effects. The first press makes all monsters visible on the map, the second press makes all items visible, the third press reveals the entire map, and the fourth press takes you to the next dungeon level. While in town, holding B will allow the player to walk through obstacles, while pressing Select will upgrade the store.

Some additional debug features are available on controller 2:

  • L/R: Hold either one to freeze-frame, or hold one and press the other to advance one frame at a time (works at any time, not just during gameplay).
  • D-Pad: Cycles through sound effects.
  • B: Replays the last sound effect.
  • X: Cycles through musical jingles.
  • A: Cycles through background music.

To do:
See if a debug room exists like in the sequel.

Unused Items#

Hidden among the rings in the game is an unused ring, "見とおしの指輪" (The Ring of Prospects). No data appears to be associated with this aside from the name and it doesn't have a price.
