If you thought Japan was missing out on an SNES Kirby puzzle game, you're sorely mistaken. Kirby no Kirakira Kids is a follow-up (originally published to the Nintendo Power cartridge service) to the Game Boy version.

The game was planned to release in the US as Kirby's Super Star Stacker but was shelved for unknown reasons.1 The Super Famicom game remained exclusive to Japan until 2023, when it was released internationally to Nintendo Classics - Nintendo Switch Online as Kirby's Star Stacker.

This string gets written to SRAM on bootup at $700000 as an SRAM integrity check. If there is a mismatch, all save data is erased. Despite being mentioned in Super Famicom Nintendo documentation at the time as containing anti-piracy measures, the game appears to have no innate anti-piracy checks.

Region Error#

Attempting to play the game on an European console will hang the game on this screen after it fades in on boot. The game was originally intended to be released outside of Japan, but due to the end of console support for the SNES in the US and Europe at the time, it went unreleased, making this screen appear a bit awkward.
