To put things simply, Notch asked what his new game, at the time just called "Cave Game", should be called. A lot of different names were suggested, but Notch decided to pick "Minecraft: Order of the Stone", which would later be shortened to simply "Minecraft" for copyright reasons, then "Order of the Stone" became an actual thing in Minecraft: Story Mode. Little did the person who suggested that name know that this game would have became the world's best selling game.

Not much is actually known about this sub-dev-stage. No versions from it have re-surfaced yet, and even simply the file names of these versions are unknown, nor how many versions were created. It is believed that the Classic-style natural terrain generation was implemented somewhere in this sub-dev-stage, however this may have been implemented in the first version of the next sub-development stage.

A version called "rd-20090515", exists and was likely part of this dev stage. However, this version is lost, and attempting to download it from the MC launcher results in downloading rd-161348 instead.
