A development build of Minecraft Beta 1.2_02 from May 17th, 2011 was leaked online on June 27th 2024. It is speculated that this is an early version of the build used for the Minecraft Xperia timelapse.

Being a development build, the code is mostly unobfuscated aside from variable names. This also means that any code not used by the game was compiled anyways, allowing unused and unseen content to be present via modding.

Secret Mode#

Instead of booting into the game normally, you are immediately taken to this "Secret Mode." The mode consists of a bunch of Steve bots who will automatically build a structure and self-destruct after a bit. It is based on Survival, so normal Survival rules apply, however the inventory has been hardcoded to not function. The hotbar works, and the inventory can store items, but it cannot be accessed because the hotkey to access it as well as container interactions have been disabled.

Second Secret Mode#

There is a second "Secret Mode" with other variants of the builder mob, however enabling this currently causes it to crash.

Mobs#

Builders#

The Builders are Steve bots who can place and break blocks. They follow a set program and will build a structure and will self-destruct after a while. When they self-destruct they will damage nearby entities including the player.

Builder Variants#

There are two hidden variants of the Builder. One holds a gold pickaxe that doesn't render and behaves as a hostile mob, while the other holds an iron pickaxe and roams around without any programming.

Unused World Generation Features#

Canyons#

An early terrain feature that would eventually evolve into ravines.

Brick House#

A hollow box of brick blocks.

TownFeature#

A dummy code generation intended to generate structures but not having any special structure assigned.

Lava/Water Spawner#

Code from Indev related to Lava and Water spawners remain in this build.

Unused Blocks#

Coral Blocks#

A feature Notch originally mentioned in 20091. Notch tried to implement it in 2010 (around the Infdev period to be exact), but it was ultimately scrapped2. They somewhat resemble leaves and they change color based on their coordinates. Coral blocks were not added to the game until Update Aquatic (Release 1.13) in 2018, and were completely different from this iteration.

Unused Block Types#

There is an unused "GasMaterial" material in the code that is nonsolid, lets light pass, and does not block motion. What this could have been used for is unknown.

Misc Features#

Flyby Code#

Code for a flyby feature used by Notch to post flyby videos on his YouTube channel. It generates a world called "flyby" and generates TGA files the size of the game window. It generates around 21120 frames, which is around 5 minutes and 51 seconds of footage.

XperiaMode#

Sets the starting location to (-30.75, 75.69, 0.9) but is otherwise normal survival.

Title Screen#

While not normally accessible, if restored it functions as normal with the exception of the logo spelling 'Minfcraft'.
