End portal room in this version

The original version of the Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3 was released shortly before 13:50 UTC on October 61 and included a debug feature where players spawned with full stacks of enchantment tables, bookshelves, End portal frames, and End portal blocks in the hotbar.

Additions#

Blocks#

Brewing Stand#

  • A block used for brewing potions.
  • Currently, only the Awkward Potion, Thick Potion, Mundane Potion, Potion of Regeneration, Potion of Swiftness, Potion of Fire Resistance, Potion of Poison, Potion of Healing, Potion of Weakness, Potion of Strength, Potion of Slowness, and Potion of Harming are able to be brewed.

Enchantment Table#

  • A block used for enchanting tools.
  • Currently, enchanting has no use other than a placeholder system.
    • The item states that it is "Enchanted!!" and glows purple in the inventory. Due to the lack of full implementation, the enchantment defaults to an ID of 2 and a level of 1 and glows purple in the inventory. The tooltips for the items are now blue as well.

End Portal Frame#

  • No functionality has been added for this block as of yet. However, it can still be repaired using an Eye of Ender. The texture differs from the texture added in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4.
  • End portal frames could be broken by explosions. The end portal has a chance of dropping as an item from the explosion, 33% for creeper explosions and 25% from TNT.

Glass pillars#

Glass pillars were a debug element of end portal rooms used to mark the location of strongholds, since the eye of ender's functionality of pointing toward strongholds did not exist yet. One pillar extended from the main entrance and another from the portal room, both from the Stone Bricks to the build limit. They were accidentally left in the public release of Java Edition Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3, and were removed in the next update.

Sky Dimension#

Creating a new world in the server, the spawn chunks would generate as sky dimension chunks instead of the correct overworld chunks.2

General#

Brewing#

The potion brewing system has been completely overhauled and is similar to the current version of brewing.

Breeding#

  • Wheat now attracts and feeds animals.
  • After you feed an animal, they go into "love mode".
    • Hearts will come out of animals while they are in this state.
  • If two animals breed, baby animals will be produced.
    • Babies are smaller versions of their parents that have large heads, faster movement, and make higher pitched sounds than their parents.

Enchanting#

  • Not fully implemented, as no enchantments exist yet.
  • Upon placing an item in the enchantment table's slot, three randomized options appear on the right of the GUI, written in Standard Galactic Alphabet.
    • Armor, axes, flint and steel, hoes, pickaxes, shears, shovels, and swords can be enchanted using an enchantment table.
  • Enchanting requires experience levels.
  • The maximum enchantment level is 15.
  • A glint animation appears on items to show that they are enchanted.
  • The only form of enchantment is listed above in the "Enchantment Table" section.

Debug Screen#

A pie chart has been added to this screen to display CPU usage.

Status Effects#

  • Status effects inflict positive or negative damage on either players or mobs.
  • There's strength and duration:
    • Strength boosts effects.
    • Duration controls the time the player/mob is under the effect.

Changes#

Blocks#

Bookshelves#

  • When destroyed, bookshelves now drop 3 books instead of the block itself.

Cauldrons#

  • Cauldrons have been given a block ID, an item ID, and a crafting recipe.

Pickaxes#

  • Iron pickaxes can now be found in the new stronghold altar chests.
