Sound Differences

This is a sub-page of Tomodachi Life/Regional Differences.

To do:

Re-record every song in this article using a voice that doesn't result in off-key singing in the Japanese version.
The music for the Compatibility Tester is different in the Japanese version.
The Mii voices themselves, they are all different across versions.

Café#

Café Background Music#

Songs originally from Tomodachi Collection play on the Café area. In the Japanese version, the songs contain their lyrics, whereas in the international versions they are replaced with instrumental versions.

Rap

Divorce Cutscene#

In the Japanese version, a different portion of the Idol song from the previous game would play during a divorce related cutscene in the Café. It was changed into a soul-style, lower-key version of the theme from the Compatibility Tester if two Miis get 80-89% rating for the international releases.

Japan	International

Concert Hall#

Default Song Lyrics#

The lyrics of the songs have been changed between the two English releases because of the different Text-to-Speech voices. The only song that wasn't changed was Techno ("Operation Robodachi").

Enka#

The song was removed from the international releases, being replaced with the Ballad, Techno and Musical songs. The reason for its removal was likely due to its very Japanese nature being too niche for Western audiences.

「あめのくいなばし」	Translation ("The Rain is Stubborn")

ふられわかれて	Rejected and broken
あまざらしの	by the cold-hearted rain
おもいで	Those memories,
どなたか	somehow,
けしてください	should be erased from me
やきついたあなた	You broke my heart
あなたのかげ	for someone else
なげた	Ran away
ゆびわとわにきゆ	with the ring thrown away
あめの	The Rain
くいなばし	is Stubborn

Songs Available in Every Version of the Game#

Heavy Metal

North America ("Dragon's Fire")	Europe ("Eternal Darkness")

Dragon's fire drawing near	Lucid dream wake screaming
Lords and ladies gasp in fear	lightning crashing deafens me
Crusty beasty beast	blazing fury awakens...
I shalt saveth the day	heart beating, arise... quickly
Head butt, elbow drop	darkness unending
evil chicken lizard	steaming percolation
High kick, mega punch	my eyes half open
just in time for brunch	I want some coffee

Pop

North America ("Loving Things")	Europe ("Sunny Summer")

I love loving	I love holidays
cats and sun	beaches in the sun
pizza and fun	just having fun
Yeah yeah you know that it's true	feels like living in a dream
Baby	baby
Oh my I	eating ice cream
love loving things	just you and me
Love loving you	somewhere all alone
Especially your shoes	watching the sun go down
Let's keep our hearts open baby	hope this summer lasts forever
and love loving things	with me in your arms

Rock & Roll

North America ("Real Loud Bark")	Europe ("Rock 'n' Roll Baby")

Walkin' my dog	You make my heart
out in the park	beat like a drum
Every cat he sees	every time we meet
gets a real loud bark	we have so much fun
Woofer keeps a-woofin'	Rock 'n' Roll baby
Cats keep a-hissin'	you drive me crazy
Doggy dog yippin'	let's dance and boogie
Kitty cats trippin'	every which way
No stoppin' this fight	Rock 'n' Roll baby
so let's rock and roll all night	let's dance the night away!

Rap

North America ("Livin' the Dream")	Europe ("Livin' the Dream")

Back it up, yeah, back it up	All other rappers I'm the best
Make way for one bad pup	don't put me to the test
This beat's so sick it's corrupt	you'd better dance or you're gonna be
Everyone stop	depressed
and listen to me	like a button
Mouth's full of food	you ain't nothin'
and it's super yummy	unless you're switched on
Livin' like a king	to my songs
in a wide limousine	it isn't wrong
Them streets ain't so mean	to sing along
when you livin' the dream	I'm livin' the dream
You know what I mean	know what I mean?
Please buy my new CD	please buy my new C.D.!

Opera

North America ("The Heart's Descent")	Europe ("Meglio Domani")

Oh what have I done?	Oh! Woe is me!
My dreams came undone	There's nothing left
beneath the wretched sun	except sorrow and tears
I cry alone	I cry alone
I need a love to call my own	How can this really be my destiny?
In your sweet face	You come back
I'll find my grace	and comfort me
You'll save me from the dark	we make up and finally
and together we shall embark	I hold your hand and know
on a new journey	our love can make
my love and me	a much better tomorrow

Songs Exclusive to the International Versions#

Ballad

North America ("Maybe, Baby")	Europe ("The One")

Maybe baby you're the one for me	I want to spend my life with you
Baby maybe I'm the one for you	here on this island made for two
Holding hands forever	we'll be together
on this tiny island	and make happy memories
Maybe baby I could be yours	let's sail out across the sea
Baby maybe you could be mine	an ocean fantasy
Maybe dreams do come true	there's nothing we can't do
Maybe...	don't you feel?
Maybe we are destiny	don't you feel my love for you?
How can we know?	if you said no
We'll never know...	where would I go?
Unless we take	when I am made
a chance	for you

Musical

The name was most likely changed between releases because the North American song's name is the same as a line often repeated in the S Club 7 song, Reach.

North America ("Reach for the Stars!")	Europe ("Life Changing")

Have you ever had that dream	Have you ever loved somebody?
of reaching for the stars?	Did you ever dare?
Of putting your best foot forward	Did you want someone to just
on Jupiter or Mars?	tell you that they care?
Sha la la la la space dreamin'	Sha la la la la! Chin up!
The galaxy's too small	There's no need to cry
to contain your dreams	Loosen up and smile!
if you know what I mean	It takes dedication
So give it your all and	but if you open your heart
dreams will change your life	it might change your life!
