To do:
Is the arcade version's title call still in this port?

A port of Mawasunda!! (known in English as Turn It Around), an obscure arcade game which was basically Taito's take on Bishi Bashi (or Panic Park, due to its unique controls). Unlike Taito's other arcade ports, this port was only released as part of D3 Publisher's Simple series and as such was sold as a budget title.

Unused Text#

Build Date#

Offset 0x69B28 of the ELF executable contains the following... peculiar build date (as a result of Y2K formatting):

MAWASUNDAR
19101/04/20 15:33:23

For comparison, the build date of the currently dumped arcade version (V2.08J) is dated 2000/02/01 11:02:54 (and in the original arcade game's buildtag, there is an exclamation mark instead of "R").

Arcade Leftovers#

There are also several text strings from the original arcade release:

Version Differences#

The original arcade game ran on the G-NET hardware, based on the original PlayStation, which makes for a 1:1 port (right down to zero loading times and small size of the game), barring controls and branding-related changes:

  • Because the title screen was simplified to display the Simple 1500 branding, the original title animation displaying the arcade cabinet and 3D model of the game's mascot characters was removed.
  • All references to arcade version's physical nature (such as force feedback settings, post-game calorie counter, among others) were removed. Internet ranking passwords are no longer generated after a Challenge Mode game either.
    • To fill the space in the continue screen with the calorie counter and continue time limit both being removed, an animation of the mascot character (Mawasu-Boy) and the GM2 monkey running alternating directions on the screen is added, taken from the GM2 division credit when playing a single-player game (which in that case, also now credits Taito's consumer products R&D department in the console version).
  • Time limits in menus (and continue screen) were removed. Additionally, title branding was also removed from menu backgrounds (this is also likely the case in the undumped English arcade version, Turn It Around).
  • Cameltry is now explicitly named in the minigame selection screen.
  • The color of the banana and the barrier in Swan Runner minigame was switched around.
  • Some songs in certain minigames were switched around.
