Taiko no Tatsujin is the first non-spin-off Taiko game for the Wii, featuring a simple story with Don-chan growing up, joining a gang, and getting his soul stolen by a random woman from the moon to "save her country."
Test Directory#
The folder Test/ contains several files intended for testing the game's features. While many of them are either identical to each other or are duplicates of used files, a few others stand out.
letter_attach_test.jpg#
This is a graphic meant to test an earlier implementation of the images attached to the game's letters, being an image of the cover art for Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: 7-tsu no Shima no Daibōken!, which released eight months prior to this game. Oddly enough, it is stored in the JPEG format: the rest of the images are stored in Nintendo's TPL format and are either uncompressed or losslessly compressed.
mcstest.txt#
The NintendoWare library contains a feature, MCS, to allow for multiple PCs to connect to a Wii during development to allow both the Wii to access the PCs' files, as well as for the PCs to pass user input directly to the Wii itself. This file was presumably meant to test the former feature.

UncompStreamTest.txt#
This file, one of a few meant to test the game's LZ11-based compression algorithm, is copied verbatim from a news article announcing that heavy metal band X Japan's 2008 world tour had been indefinitely postponed due to drummer Yoshiki suffering from a herniated disk (which may or may not be coincidental given the game's subject). The original file had ten null bytes appended to the end.

Placeholder Song Title Texture#
The file texture/games.tpl contains the textures used for the song titles. Textures 69 through 77 are duplicates of each other, and translate to "This is temporary data" followed by a winking emoticon. Note that while the used textures have special alpha pixels, the placeholder textures just have transparent backgrounds, so a black background was added to the texture for readability.

Using this Gecko code replaces the settings menu with a debug menu.
A build date of October 26, 2008, less than two months before the release date, is printed in the title.
Deleted Video#
The file Movie/thplist.txt references the video file tkwii_test.thp, which is not present in the retail release of the game.
