Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Dodoon to Nidaime!

This article has a talk page!

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Dodoon to Nidaime! is the second Taiko game for the Wii, with boss fights and more! ...well, apart from the graphical overlay, it's not actually that different from the first one.

But it's got boss fights! (And an overly vulgar English fan translation if you want to check out the story, which itself is just a "monster of the week" against a mad robotics scientist that hates everything fun. It's okay.)

Test Directory#

The Test/ folder from Taiko no Tatsujin Wii is back! The contents are the same as last time.

letter_attach_test.jpg#

This is a graphic meant to test an earlier implementation of the images attached to the Wii games' letters, being an image of the cover art for Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: 7-tsu no Shima no Daibōken!. Oddly enough, it is stored in the JPEG format: the rest of the images are stored in Nintendo's TPL format and are either uncompressed or losslessly compressed.

mcstest.txt#

The NintendoWare library contains a feature, MCS, to allow for multiple PCs to connect to a Wii during development to allow both the Wii to access the PCs' files, as well as for the PCs to pass user input directly to the Wii itself. This file was presumably meant to test the former feature.

This is an MCS server test.

UncompStreamTest.txt#

This file, one of a few meant to test the game's LZ11-based compression algorithm, is copied verbatim from a news article announcing that heavy metal band X Japan's 2008 world tour had been indefinitely postponed due to drummer Yoshiki suffering from a herniated disk (which may or may not be coincidental given the game's subject). The original file had ten null bytes appended to the end.

Revision Info#

The file revision.txt, stored in the game's root directory, consists of a commented out build date and a variable definition.

// Mon Oct  5 16:24:38     2009
const char* REVISION_STRING = "$Rev: 12101 $";

This file goes unused, as this information is instead read from offsets in the executable itself.

Unused Music#

Present in sound/ is SONG_1STPAI.nub, a bizarre composition consisting of samples of rhythmic footsteps, chants, overdubbed shouts by an unknown speaker, and a sample of "Dies irae" ("Day of Wrath"), section IIIa of Verdi's composition Requiem. The track itself is unplayable without modding as it does not have a chart, nor is it even referenced in the game's executable. The track is most likely a teaser for Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Dororon! Yokai Daikessen!, as the footsteps are used as part of an easter egg in Don-chan's room when turning the lights off, and the shouts themselves are simply the word "yokai" accompanied by laughter.

Developer Menu#

To do:
Document what each option does.

The developer menu from Taiko no Tatsujin Wii is back! It has a new section for checking the game's score records. The menu can now properly reload itself, preventing crashes caused by pointing the scene changer to the developer menu while the player was using it, as the underlying bug was fixed. Despite this, the options list in the GAME section cannot be displayed properly, as the amount of items in it causes it to go off screen and the menu lacks a scrolling feature.

Unlike the first game, this menu cannot be accessed when the game is booting up, as it results in a hang due to the vibration warning screen never being displayed.

The following code replaces the settings menu with the debug menu:
