A much well-needed update after the disaster of the somewhat slow-paced and confusing Game Boy version of the first game, Pocket Puyo Puyo Tsuu uses actual colors/textures for the Puyos and gameplay speed that closely replicates those of the home console games.
This version of the game would later be the basis for the WonderSwan and Neo Geo Pocket Color ports.

The copyright date was updated to 2000, and Sega is now credited on the title screen due to them having acquired the Puyo Puyo series and characters over two years prior to this release. The change to the copyright formatting cuts the background art off at the bottom slightly.

Arle's character portrait was redrawn to be more consistent with the rest of her sprites. Oddly, the original portrait resembles her design in Madou Monogatari Hachamecha Kimatsushiken, rather than her classic Puyo Puyo appearance.
