This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

To do:

  • There are more Smurfs Kart leftovers
  • Document the N.E.R.M.A.L. playtest demo
  • Various music related oddities:
    • Certain track themes are always played in conjunction with audio overlays containing additional instruments (the credits theme is especially affected, since it's almost entirely drowned out by obnoxious, off-beat scatting)
    • Early versions of some track themes are left over in the N.E.R.M.A.L. and possibly also the final game

The mediocre sequel to the masterpiece that is Garfield Kart, using the engine of the similarly-mediocre Smurfs Kart. On the plus side, it's slightly more polished than the original game. On the other hand, it's missing the collectable puzzle pieces, 50cc, platinum time trials, and items that aren't just carbon-copies of the ones from Mario Kart. Also, it has less tracks and cups... and as if all of that weren't enough, it launched without volume settings or the ability to create online lobbies.

Unused Graphics#

Placeholder Graphics#

Present in the files are numerous placeholder graphics. The first is an image of the Garfield stand-in puppet used during the production of Garfield: The Movie, the second is of a crudely drawn circle, the third is a render from the previous game placed on a black pedestal, and the fourth is an edited promotional artwork from Smurfs Kart.

Locked Cup#

A simple locked cup sprite, however, as all 3 cups are already unlocked from the start, this goes unused. In the first game, the first three cups were similarly available from the start, with the fourth cup needing to be unlocked by completing the first three, so this may indicate that there were plans for a fourth cup.

Early Cup Icons#

Numerous graphics showcase early designs of the cup icons, appearing to be based off and using the assets of Smurfs Kart.

Unused Audio#

The cinematic game intro file has largely different audio compared to what is heard in-game, using mostly unedited stock sound effects, while the in-game version uses distorted sound effects with segments of in-game music.
