This is a sub-page of Proto:Sonic Heroes/PlayStation 2 prototype 9.28.
The 9.28 prototype of Sonic Heroes may not have many major differences in terms of music compared to the final game, but it makes up for it in the amount of voice clips left in. At this point in development, filtered voice clips are not completed yet, so a lot of differences can be found in this build.
General#
- The remaining ADX tracks are referenced (and presumably would've played as intended), but simply aren't stored on the disk. However, they do play if the disc is modified to include them.
- The English voice tracks are incomplete code-wise; many of the voice clips still play Japanese. As such, a lot characters speak in a combination of their English and Japanese voices. Notably, the "attack" voice clips for Team Sonic are in Japanese, but dying plays the audio from the English version (which is very similar to a certain prototype). In-game, Team Chaotix, Dr. Eggman, Metal Madness/Overlord, and Omochao are entirely in Japanese.
- The FMVs have streaming problems, often stuttering; the bottom also appears corrupted. Something like this also appears in the 10.8 prototype.

Team Rose's intro, Team Chaotix's intro, and the Metal Sonic Transformation cutscenes all lack music and sound effects.
Music Differences#
This build of the game only contains the three stage tracks present among the E3 and TGS builds (Seaside Hill, Rail Canyon, and Bullet Station). Bullet Station is already finalized.
Differences From the E3 Build#
- The "Round Clear" and Speed Up themes, which were absent in the E3 prototype, have since been added and play as intended.
- Sea Gate, which could be found in the E3 2003 prototype, no longer exists at this point.
Seaside Hill#

Seaside Hill uses different backing guitars.
Rail Canyon#

Rail Canyon still uses the same drums from the E3 2003 prototype.
Team Dark's Team Blast#

Team Dark's Team Blast ends at a different pitch.
Team Chaotix#
|
PlayStation 2 prototype 9.28 |

During their intro cinematic, Team Chaotix's theme doesn't appear to have been composed yet, so their opening instead plays the song Bullets by Creed, suggesting it was one of the last theme songs to be composed.
Others#
- Team Rose's Team Blast audio is silent, and plays the Speed Up track instead of the invincibility theme, as they aren't on the disc. It's also missing the streamed files for Team Chaotix's Team Blast for both Languages.
Sound Differences#
Goal Ring#
Although in lower quality, the Goal Ring sound effect, which goes unused in the E3 prototype, can be heard when reaching at the end of the stage in this prototype that is silent in the final game.
Score Counter#

There's a unique sound effect for the score counter at the end of the levels.
Voice Differences#
Japanese#
Omega uses unfiltered voice clips in both Languages.
